  • Hemolytic Anemias- Part 4: G6PD Deficiency; Pathophysiology, morphology, clinical features, diagnosis & treatment
Hemolytic Disease Due to Red Cell Enzyme Defects:
    Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase Deficiency
    Is the most common enzymopathy
Estimated to affect over 400 million people worldwide
    Hereditary disease, recessive X-linked trait
Resulting in deficient or impaired enzyme function
Reducing the ability of red cells to protect themselves against oxidative injuries and lead to hemolysis.
In this video i have tried to simplify the concepts of G6PD deficiency. Do share if you find this video useful.

I have type II and just came out of a severe hemolysis incident (2 weeks hospitalisation in Critical Care, 7 transfusions required) due to preparing/shelling fava beans (not even eating them). I already knew a lot about this mutation but your expose is the best out there! Thanks!

Women CAN have G6PD deficiency. I am a woman and I have Class II type. Went undiagnosed for over 50 years bc no doctors considered it. Even after severe anemia and multiple bouts of pneumonia I was just told to eat liver and take iron supplements. Please do better medical practitioners.
