As someone pointed out bellow, Marika and Radagon are inspired by the Alchemical Rebis. They most likely started out as one (Marika), and then Radagon got separated from her for whatever reason, probabbly to gain more understanding, knowledge and go through different experiences, but he ultimately developed his own personality, motivations and loyaties, and as she became more and more sceptical of the Greater Will and all the cosmic power behinfd the Golden Order, he remained faithfull to it.
Thus when she decided to shatter the Elden Ring, he specifically tried to fix it and maintain the Golden Order at all costs. And as Vaati pointed out, they probably merged back into one body, which is how we as players find them and fight them at the end of the game. It might not have been willingly, perhaps the Greater Will merged them by force, as Vaati puts it, to try and correct Marikas faulty progmramming, by Making her share the same body with loyal Radagon. Thats why we fight Radagon as he takes over their shared body, Marika most likely WANTS us to kill the Elden Beast.
Btw loved your reaction, cant wait for you to do Demigods one, and one specifically for Miquella, as he will be immensly importand in the upcoming DLC. And dont worry, other lore videos are less confusing then this one, this is like, the deepest mysteries so its a liitle overwhelming 😅

@@Lazykates You are welcome. Yup, its kinda hinted that she wishes to be released from its control, the Elden Ring is literally embeded in her body and she wants us to mercy kill her (pehaps, her motives are very vague). Dont want to spoil anything, but you will notice a similar pattern and motivation in the story of Ranni the Witch.
Btw, I have subbed, and I wish you to have fun with the future reactions and the DLC ❤

One of the theories about how Radagon and Marika are the same person is that this is a reference to the alchemical process represented by the Rebis, a being that possesses both masculine and feminine qualities represented by the red king and the white queen (Radagon and Marika)
the process involves separating the qualities of the prima materia and then putting them back together, basically it involves separating something in order to unite the separated qualities, Radagon has always been Marika and he still at some point became her because he was separated from her and then reunited with her, they are by definition a Rebis
this is for me the theory that best explains the entire Radagon is Marika situation

    • @davisiotta489
      @davisiotta489 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@edwardgonzalez976 I think it's the example given by the game itself to better exemplify this situation, I believe that Marika and Radagon were Siamese brothers but you know... magical stuff, and they were separated after birth and later Marika was reunited with Radagon physically

I would highly recommend Tarnished Archaeologist's videos for a more in depth look at the architectural and environmental aspects and inspirations in the game. It's really interesting!
With regards to why Marika would shatter the ring. Recall back to her spoken echoes stating that Marika began to try and get a deeper understanding of the Greater Will/Golden Order. Perhaps she came to a realization that she is actually just a puppet or that her age was a cursed one. If we go with the idea that she didn't order Godwyn's death on the Night of Black Knives then him dying in a world where NO ONE is supposed to die, could have spurred her to shatter the ring in grief. Or if she did order his death, perhaps she's been trying to be rid of the control of the Elden Ring over her for ages.
On why Radagon tried to repair the ring. Well, as Vaati said, he is a being that "aspires to be complete". He is, presumably, the secondary/less dominant aspect in a shared body where the other aspect is a literal God. Marika to Radgaon - "Thou art yet to become me, though art yet to become a God." He may feel inferior in some way? The Golden Order is a faith-based institution, but he marries Rennala who is leader of an Intelligence based one and then goes on to create a section of the Golden Order which is in part driven by scholarly motivations, Golden Order Fundamentalism. Fundamentalist Spells in game all require Faith AND Intelligence which is not the case with other Golden Order Spells. Funnily enough, you can infer that Radagon was only driven to discover Fundamentalism after Marika made her comments about wanting to understand the Golden Order better. This further drives home the idea of him potentially being the secondary/inferior/incomplete aspect within the body and explains his desire to "be complete".
So Radagon tries to repair the Elden Ring in part because the Golden Order and his fundamentalism has given him purpose and helped to complete him while Marika destroys it because it has turned sour and brought her grief. Radagon wants to keep the dying age intact while Marika wants to end it so something new can take its place. Marika represents Causality while Radagon represents Regression, the two main tenets of the Golden Order.

27:52 It seems that her different parts have completely different personalities and don't always want the same thing, like if they are 2 different people in the same body.
This game also has similarities with alchemy since I think in alchemy sth called "the great work" exists, which is the art of combining a male and female soul into a single body.
I can recommend also watching more of his elden ring lore playlist (he also made a speculation video based upon the new story DLC trailer and the lore from his previous lore videos). I think pretty much all of the elden ring lore videos are good and interesting. Miquella's character lore might be the most important to check out for the upcoming DLC though.

To start, I do not think the Elden Beast fight is boring, It's a beautiful boss, with a beautiful arena, and nice music. But it takes a looooong time, and if you happen to be playing a glass cannon caster and don't have enough flasks after Radagon, it takes even longer. I know from experience.
The biggest mystery to me is of Radagon and Marika, I think (this is not necessarily correct) that they are potentially a euphemism for a hermaphrodite, or perhaps split personalities that simply shape their body as either male or female depending on which is manifesting. Someone already commented about them being a representation of an alchemical process, and that may actually be what they are intended to be. Another mystery is.. where is Marika? you see her body, it falls, then reforms as Radagon, but Marika seems to not be there. There's a lot of other theories about this, but they start to clash with theories about Miquella, so I will not type that essay here.
If you've seen the DLC trailers, the start of the story trailer leaves a lot of questions and more theories as to Radagon and Marika, as Marika is inciting war, her torso is that of a man's, and her hair has a deep red hue to it, implying that Radagon is fighting her for control, and that can be presumed to mean that he did not like what she was doing. And that's where more theories and questions pop up, hopefully the DLC will give some more insight into this.
And you should totally watch Vaati's demigods video, and maybe anything else he has that seems interesting. His lore videos are great, and they will certainly open you up to new ideas and make you realize how much you've maybe missed or simply overlooked. Great video!

I think it's more of FromSoftware could always do a banger final battle but it seems there's a reason or philosophy why they always feel like 'dull'. I understand why people think like that because DS1-DS2 had similar lacklustre finale, if I'm being brutally honest, DS3 finale boss was also the same. Elden Ring's finale is more of a fight against Radagon/Marika than Elden Beast as the finale. Radagon fight was not that hard but it was definitely a fun fight. As for Elden Beast, it's more of fighting to survive until you reach that finish line that is already in front of you. The only thing that Fromsoftware did the best as finale is Isshin from Sekiro which is why the game seemed to be legendary on its own.

about the erdtree being a parasite
this is an extremely famous theory within the community but this is just speculation, nothing confirmed, in fact there is a lot in the Game that seems to contradict this theory and the claim that life would have appeared after the Greater Will as it is implied within the game that souls and births only exist because of the Greater will!
Like any other souls game, the game's lore is completely open and leaves information for YOU to draw your own conclusions.

Crazy right?! VaatiVidya doesn’t get enough credit for these. Your question in regards to Why Marika shattered the ring & why Radagon wants to fix it is think of Radagon as a devout believer in the Golden Order and Marika now as a non-believer that’s where the two personalities no longer agree
