He's my grandad through marriage. I'm married to his grandson.. He was wonderful It's amazing to see so many people loved his music. My daughter his great granddaughter was the first and only child to ever touch his infamous guitar! lol she was like one years old. :))

You lucky, lucky man. Black Fox by Freddy Robinson, the one piece of music that has never left my head since I first heard it around 1972, I still cherish the album which I bought at Dobells on the Charing Cross Road in London. My very first eBay purchase was the sheet music to Black Fox and then I managed to make contact with Abu in Lancaster via a lady called Vernel. Abu was so gracious in signing the sheet music and his CD The Real Thing at Last which I sent to him, he also included a very kind note that I also cherish. The sheet music (signed) hangs on my wall and everyone gets to hear the story. I have the Bluesology CD which has Black Fox on it but I know is not the World Pacific Jazz version, good but not quite as good as the one I truly love. Why oh why in these days of mediocre music has this album not come out on CD. I have tried digitising the album on my PC, agh! not good. Please , please get it out before I die., and the cover artwork is iconic. One regret I have is that I went through Lancaster 6 months before I found where Abu lived, now that would have been a special meeting, oh well, he is there, playing the Black Fox, in my heart.

Freddie Robinson's guitar playing has influenced me so much! I have never tried to copy him but all the great players I love come out in my playing your grandpa Freddie especially.

RIP Freddy Robonson, I just learned his passing right now. I am crushed because apparently he had been living in Lancaster, California with me living in nearby Rosamond only a minute or 2 away. I had no idea Freddy was so close, yet so far away. Another Stax and E & B/blues legend lost...

Freddy Robinson is imo one of the greatest guitarists of all time... that solo is ALL the right notes. So tasty.

January 27.1972. Palau de la Música.Barcelona.This is the date of the first concert of J.Mayall in Barcelona.I was there. What a beautiful night!

I saw him to in Barcelona many years ago, in a concert with John Mayall, and I have the best surprise of the night, because his elegant presence and amazing playing, after that night I been looking for his albums, not found (dificult in Europe) nobody know him, and for me he is as incredible as Eric Gale and others, and always i think West Montgomery will be playing like this if he was living at that time.
thanks so much for this audio....
    cheers friends

I loved this song so much that I made it my opening theme song when I had a college campus radio program. I called myself "The Black Fox." Thanks Freddie Robinson. RIP!

I learned this song coming out of grade school. It made the R&B radio, and that was unusual at that time. Because of Freddie Robins one of the reason why I own that same style guitar today, A Barney Kessel.

Have been trying to find this for a long time. I use to have this on a 45 Rpm . Love this song so much . I have added it to my playlist , so that I can play it over and over. Takes me back to when I was a lot younger.

I grew up listening to Little Walter --and suddenly I heard this guitar in the background, sounding just right --have always been a fan of "Fast Fingers" , through Jazz Blues Fusion, Ten years are Gone ---the consummate guitar player sounding just right so well that half the time you don't even notice it's there!

I learned this song by ear in 1969 when I was a teenager...I haven't heard it since. Now I get a chance to really appreciate this passionate piece.

When I hear for the first time to this excellent performer, the fast fingers and the figures draw in guitar by Freddie Robinson blow away my mind. Now I'm looking for some more music of this great performer.
Long Live to Mr. Freddie Robinson!

I also saw him in Barcelona playing with Mayall and Blue Mitchell. The best of that dat was a blues Robinson sung alone with his guitar. We were all awaiting to listen to him in the record but I think Mayal did not alow him to sing in his record. Probably he was too good for Mayal! Have anybody got that blues?

Sorry it was in mai 19. 1972.
With Clifford Solomon (sx),Keef hartley (dr.) and the genius of Blue Mitchell.
The dictator Franco was in power and the Civile Guard took the stage to take Mayall's girlfriends.
