    I went to buy k12’s and did not even know about the dxr12’s. The sales rep asked me to compare them side by side before i buy. The Yamaha dxr’s won and that’s been quite a few years ago. I use them three nights every week at a band and Dj gig. I am very happy with them. I also have the dxr10’s. They get louder than the qsc’s and they are very clear, even at maximum volume. Plus they are durable.

      Yeah, everyone was telling me to get QSC K12's (The QSC K12's are the only way, just do it) I got some, about a year later compared them to the Yamaha DXR12/10 and was pleasantly surprised, I preferred the sound of the lower "wattage" DXR's (K12 were 2000w peak also, same as K12.2) (wattage ratings aren't everything). I also didn't like how the K12 would lose composure and not only lose clarity but they would somewhat begin to "shout" at you, and sound harsh. So in opinion the Yamaha DXR series have been a heavily underrated speaker line in comparison to QSC, EV, JBL etc.

      djlobb which is weird cuz Yamaha to a lot of sound geeks is known as the best but QSC has the highest market value speaker wise so that’s why it’s pushed heavily

      @@matthewvaladez8209 true, I had QSC K8s and QSC K12s at our church for years until I listened to the DXR line, wow what a difference in clarity and way better for vocals! I ended up buying the dxr10s, dxr12s and dxr15s that's how much I liked them. I wonder if I should upgrade to the new DXR mkii line?

    I prefer the vocal clarity of the DXRs over the K.2 series. I'm glad QSC finally got rid of that harshness that would happen at high volumes on the K10/12s.

    My friend has 4 k12s. He hooked ONE of them up in his garage and it was super loud and really good sounding. it wasn’t even halfway up. I told him told him to turn it down cause I thought his neighbors would complain. Lol btw I’m thinking of getting a pair. Either the 12s or the 8s.

    Good review. I have the DXR 8s and love them. In all honesty when you engage the crossover I think they get just as loud as the DXR 12s I have those as well.

      I currently have the DXR10 speakers and run them with DSX15 subs. Love them. However, I thought about buy two DXR12s for situations where I cant bring a sub. How do your DXR12's do as stand alone? Enough low end with contour on ?

    • @mrhillcityva434
      @mrhillcityva434 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@drbones3rd They do ok. For a wedding or something 125 people you would be fine. If you are playing only hiphop or something with tons of bass you need subs. Tops just can't get that low. I have the DXS12 subs I use sometimes for weddings and the 12s or 8s x-over sound great with them right on the dance floor. If you want to be able to take tops alone I would go with the DXR15s.

    I'm a DJ, have two DBR10s and wanted to increase my sound, but I value portability. Is it worth changing DBR10 to K8.2?

    • @AndrewYates
      @AndrewYates  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It might be, depends on what you're doing. DBR's are a great value, the K8.2's are good, but not spectacular. Generally they would be considered a step up from DBR's, but I don't know exactly how night & day the overall sound would be. What they have been is super reliable for me. Zero issues.

    Which ones sound better to you?

    • @AndrewYates
      @AndrewYates  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Surprisingly I think the DXR8 actually sounds better at lower to mid volumes, (and produces great bass for a compact 8" if you don't have a sub at small gatherings) but once you're really cranking them, K8.2 pulls away with clarity and headroom.

      @vfnsp 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the reply. I’m thinking about buying a pair with a DXS12 Sub and wouldn’t be playing loud (or I’d use my bigger system). Sounds like the DXR8 would be perfect like this.

    So which one is louder at max volume?

    • @AndrewYates
      @AndrewYates  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For their size and price point - they both get quite loud. The QSC (in my experience) is less likely to 'shut off' if you push it a bit too hard towards its max volume. The QSC seems to have a bit more headroom when pushed really far - but up until that final point they're very close.

    How do you think the new dxrmk2 series would fare against the k.2?

    • @AndrewYates
      @AndrewYates  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Features wise it's basically identical to the original DXR. They did add the locking connector for the input, which is great. Lighter than original DXR series. Sound wise, it's probably so close that it becomes preference. They sound awesome, you can't go wrong either way.

    • @djlobb
      @djlobb 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@AndrewYates They do get louder, and have better throw thanks to the improved HF element. They've also been somewhat refined, DSP wise. They sound almost identical to the DXR 1's but I think they have a rounder, tighter sound and get louder while sounding better doing it. I haven't compared the MK2 to the K.2 tho. But I did prefer the DXR MK1 to the K.2 for what I do (Live duos and smaller bands in the park)

    Any advise on the CP8?

    • @AndrewYates
      @AndrewYates  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have not heard them above medium volume, but they were clear. There are some who believe that the CP series are repackaged Legacy K speakers, however I'm not so sure since the continuous power doesn't add up. They are well made, have a 3 year warranty (instead of a 6 like the K.2 series) and are probably a great choice for reliability. They're not K.2's, but they're leaps and bounds over budget off-brand speakers.

      I just purchased one CP8 and received when I asked you the question. After listening to it and after running it through different genres of music I’m really loving it. I have 4 of the K12.2s and 2 KW181s. I wanted something small for ceremonies and cocktail hour. The 12s are a bit of overkill. I recommend it 100%. I will be doing a review on it for TH-cam. Thanks for all your videos too they’re are very helpful!

      I would recommend trying the Yamaha DBR series if you need a cheaper, rugged, quality sounding speaker. They sound really nice, like a DXR but not as loud. They also have a full 7 year warranty, unlike QSC's CP series.

    I kept forwarding this video hoping he'd stop talking and put the k8.2s to test so to hear them but like everyone else on the tube, he talks and talks. There is no sound test for the k8.2 anywhere on the tube

    • @AndrewYates
      @AndrewYates  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't like online speakers sounds tests - they're not accurate. I get the frustration, I do. Hearing loudspeakers in person is by far the best way to judge them. TH-cam 'sound tests' are dependent on so many factors and rarely represent an actual realistic representation of what "A vs B" sounds like. In future videos I''ll likely use non copy written music with a disclaimer if I decide to make any sound comparisons.

      in this video you can have some reference, listen with good headphones and there are variants that are noticeable between one speaker and another, for my part I prefer the Yamaha DXR MKII
