@@user-xh9oq5zn9y it’s about supply and demand. Cooperate owned housing are only 5% of the total supply. Most of them are owned by mom and pops. Even if they are owned by giant corporations, they aren’t charities. If they bought a house for 500k don’t expect them to rent out less than 2500/month (5% cap rate not including maintenance and tax). And skilled labor is getting more and more expensive. Building a 1000sqft house is minimum 200k where I live. While I’m pretty liberal on most topics this isn’t that simple. And whenever the gov stepped in for the homeless, everything got so inefficient. Remember LA spends over a billion a year trying to house the homeless? That’s like more than 800k each year per homeless person. Tell me that’s a good way to use the tax money.

@@Bruhbruhbruh-rn9qv would rather need to be a restructering of the global society rather than economy but yeah, that would be an issue. The economy itself wont really change since the jobs themselves wont be unnecessarily but will rather just be replaced. The problem is that society themselves will need to steer towards different kinds of jobs. Technically if agi is really just smarter humans then agi could fully replace humans anywhere so jobs themselves would technically become fully irrelevant, effectively turning us into adult babies, who live off of their agi adults, but i doubt it sould actually go that smoothly and i also think the idea of giving agi full power over everything due to its objective superiority over humans is quite uncanny even if on paper the results would be nothing but positive.

A concern I have is that Altman is so convinced that AI will revolutionise the world and bring us all unimaginable abundance that it leads to an 'ends justify the means' rationale. Who said they can't sustain these losses? Where are you getting that from? Also, no one that's in the startup atmosphere would reasonably expect them to be profitable in this amount of time that they have had their public launch. Also the articles of incorporation mention that profit is not one of their goals but to develop safe AI for the public. To your last question that seems very cynical and pessimistic. That type of mindset suffocates innovation. Sam Altman is making strides whether you like it or not and I'll end the brief discussion there. 7 trillion dollars is roughly what it would cost to design the entire required infrastructure to send the first group of people to mars.
Simply put there’s no way Altman is getting this kind of funds, at least not within his lifetime. AI in itself is still in its infancy, AI would need to replace essential tasks for most of the world’s people before such funds would be a realistic goal. Think of Apple, today it’s the single most successful and beloved technology company touches nearly every corner of the world. The entirety of Apple is worth less than half of 7 trillion dollars. If that alone doesn’t paint the picture then Altman simply doesn’t fathom how much money 7 trillion dollars really is.

In reality, if AI do take off, 7 trillion is just a small part of the overall picture.
