Thanks for watching guys :) A few details. This was built over a couple of days mainly from a semi green ash log with chestnut arms and green birch for the foot rail (for strength). Its my first Shavehorse and im overall happy with it for the time it took. As I put in the video I need to lash the foot rail after flipping the arms and make a longer board but other than that its working well. Yes, I could have made one from sawn timber but I wanted to do this traditionally to see if I could. It is adjustable with extra peg holes so if and when I do another, ill know better what size to make things :) All the best - Andy
Fantastic video as always! Thanks SO SO much for all the wonderful content. You and Simon have really helped me keep going over the last year. You have both inspired me and after spending a small fortune me and my son are going hot tenting next week. We are so excited. Just bought your badges and Simon's so we can go in style. My wife and daughter may join us next time if we survive 😀
I can only imagine what it was like before the Industrial Age, you’d spend all day on a project or even a month and get very little done compared to today. But the peace and happiness must have been unmeasurable ❤️❤️❤️
I will say it's a pleasure to watch you build and make things from real wood, (AKA trees). At this point in my life I can't wait to get back to the woods. It is calling heavy on my heart. The Sandy beach is nice but not what I thought. No woods. Thank you for the time you put in to make these videos. As a creator I understand what goes into video making.
Love the videos always. Was never one for silent before but every part and step seemed rather intuitive without a lot of need for explanation. Well done!
Very NICE tutorial. Ash wood, also called the kings wood is fairly common around here as well. You can whistle while you werk! This how i spell work, lol.
Great video, so relaxing to watch, no power tools just hand tools, would love to have the space and tools to make my own, keep making great vids like this!
You make it look like I can do it. But it's 3 days of work you say? You did it! I don't see me do it. But watching is great. So peacefull. Thanks Andy. You made a wise investment in the right tools.
You showed a lot of skill using your tools, and made it look a lot easier than it is. Nice "prototype". After you've used it for a while, you'll know how to modify it to your own requirements. Great video, Thanks.
This is so awesome! I had an ancestor that chopped his leg and lost it in the early 1800's. It gives me the willies when I watch someone working wood with axes. Well done mate.
Fascinating and wonderful stuff. I stepped out of the room to make tea and was instantly listening to the Month Python scene in the Holy Grail when they built the siege rabbit. Great video,as always. Regards from Sandgate.
I enjoyed this video. The things you can make in the middle of the woods with basic tools! A rustic camping bench or little table would be nice to see you make Well done and take care 🇨🇦 ❤️ 🐎
Kudos to you, Andy! I've built these and my first one had the same troublesome areas: had to adjust the length of the swinging legs and the length of the planing board. Once those were adjusted everything fell into place and the shaving horse is a pleasure to use.
I'm super bummed I haven't been getting any of your notifications...just by chance I just went to see something from you and you've made like 10 videos since the last one I was notified of so glad i checked! Great vid bruv! Cheers, Jerbs.
I've only seen a few in the states. One was at a woodworking show and it was just like yours, nice and rustic, and he out did the neighboring booth and their fancy aluminum- titanium super vise... 😁
Wait what? No food? Come on dude! Not seeing your camp cooking to give me some ideas for my upcoming trip is just not right! 😂😂 Kidding! Another strong vid. About to head out myself. 1st time camping in temps below 20 degrees! Some of your content has been helpful in my preparation. Be safe and thanks
Enjoyed this; made my first shave horse under watchful eye of Mike Abbott in Herefordshire. We used a pole lathe to turn some items - only a matter of time mate! Ps: ex-Kent lad now in the midlands; makes me miss those chestnut woods - man than timber splits true! Cheers
That’s all good, always good to learn first hand from someone in the know. More features on green woodcraft would be awesome, there’s been a bit of a renaissance of late. I self taught in the main - by no means an expert, but enough to teach done students once - book by Ray Tabor (woodland crafts) and a course with Mike Abbot (think he’s retired now!) helped a lot - great content Andy, nice one 👍
Way to go man on your first attemp. Looks great. I know you were deep in thought concentration while making this, but a small tid bit. I really like hearing your stories and things. Maybe a story or something in the silence. But love the channel, and watch em all
Well done! Looking forward to seeing how you will use it in future projects. Don't mind the silent videos but would have be nice with a bit of explanation on some of the mechanics - guess this could be done in future videos when its actually in use. Thanks Andy! Another excellent video!
I know this has nothing to do with this video, but you asked on Patreon for ideas of what to cook next and I had nothing, until now, Lancashire hot pot, just saw a video for the perfect Lancashire hotpot
Nice job mate, always satisfying to make something nice...even more so to watch someone else do it whilst in the warm and dry with a bacon sandwich. I know you said you had a few projects you wanted to do but you have enough wood there to build a fort for a John Wayne western, I can't help wondering what's next.
Cheers mate :D bacon was consumed during the build haha. This is at another forester mates woodland, thats his wood pile (that i steel from regularly haha)
Thank you for sharing this and using hand tools what is the bit you used with the brace to make the dowel ends for the legs please I had not seen that before
Thanks for watching guys :)

What's the tool called you used to cut the dowl ends on the table legs please ?
I can only imagine what it was like before the Industrial Age, you’d spend all day on a project or even a month and get very little done compared to today. But the peace and happiness must have been unmeasurable ❤️❤️❤️
indeed, its very satisfying though :) thanks Robert
Thank you for being always there to watch. Me and hubby love what you where doing. Motivate us to also do something. Thank you Mr Kent
Thanks very much :) we all need a little motivation.. making the videos is mine :)
Started with about 10 layers of clothing by the end of the video I was expecting him to be just in his boots 🤣
Brillant job Andy, cant beat the sound of wood splitting, and wood boring, so peaceful to watch.... well done
cheers Ian :)
I know it has been a while. But I finally was able to sit still and watch every minutes. Thanks for this.

Easy with that ax my friend one wrong swing and you'll have to change the name to Carla's outdoors :P
Wow! I find it interesting how you split the big logs..... Thank You!!!
Love watching your video's.
But what I like most about you is that you seem to be a very friendly and humble person. That is important.
Thank you very much indeed for the kind words :)
The old-school tools are the best tools. 😊 Nice job, Andy.
Cool! Ive never seen a shave horse before. You learn something new everyday 😁👍
I enjoyed that as much as your cooking videos! A PLUS!
THANK YOU
You make it look like I can do it. But it's 3 days of work you say? You did it! I don't see me do it. But watching is great. So peacefull. Thanks Andy.
You made a wise investment in the right tools.
it would seem that 36 people would rather be on a cruise ship or holidaying in a seaside resort in Spain. Great video again.
Great skills Andy 👍👍👌🏕🌲🌲
1:58, me spending the next 3 hours looking for my sheath
haha, tell me about it
I’ll put mine in my pocket and still go searching for it....
Great video and excellent work o your shave horse well done Andy.
Thanks you Andrew
Excellent work and instruction. I have been wanting to attempt this and your video shows what I need to do. Many thanks.
You showed a lot of skill using your tools, and made it look a lot easier than it is. Nice "prototype". After you've used it for a while, you'll know how to modify it to your own requirements. Great video, Thanks.
Nice job. Liked that you had a thought process when you started this and how it became real as you went along.
This is so awesome! I had an ancestor that chopped his leg and lost it in the early 1800's. It gives me the willies when I watch someone working wood with axes. Well done mate.
Cheers Craig :)
You have mad skills Andy. That was epic.
Well done, always great to see hand tool in use, a lost art. Keep it up.
Thanks Peter
Always enjoy watching your carpentry work. Great woodland skills Andy.
Thanks Darrell

Fascinating and wonderful stuff. I stepped out of the room to make tea and was instantly listening to the Month Python scene in the Holy Grail when they built the siege rabbit. Great video,as always.

Nice work, thanks for the video, have been looking at several other vids for shaving horse, yours is really easy to follow. Thanks again.
Thank you Roger :)
Very nice, the sound of that auger cutting into the wood is pure ASMR. Looks like you've got a nice pile wood to play with there 👍
All the best mate.

Brilliant! You must have a big project coming up - exciting stuff!

Excellent. Must have taken a good bit of planning👍👍
I had a little advise from a friend :)

I'm super bummed I haven't been getting any of your notifications...just by chance I just went to see something from you and you've made like 10 videos since the last one I was notified of so glad i checked! Great vid bruv! Cheers, Jerbs.
I love that you chose slightly bent wood for the rails on the hold-down mechanism. It does lend to a better grip. Are those house in the back ground??
now what can we look forward to you making with this shave horse 🪓
Very nicely done. In future video let's see you make a bow.
I've only seen a few in the states.
One was at a woodworking show and it was just like yours, nice and rustic, and he out did the neighboring booth and their fancy aluminum- titanium super vise... 😁

Nice one,Andy. You sure cut a lot of trees down to make it, though.😉😁👍
If he bought one (are there even shave horses on the market?) They'd use trees for that, too.
@marian frances Yeah, I was joking. 😋
Wow nice
Nice 👍 yes 👍
Awesome!
