They are simply the best most uderrated band ever they should be the biggest act out there great songs great vocals stellar musicianship they have it all
@@paulcummings287 I’m listening now. This is the perfect example of why the guitar needs to be louder in the mix. Sound guys are always trying to burry it to much. I guess when you’re the lead singer and guitarist you get your way. Loud guitar is what got me hooked in the first place. Maybe not every song but at least half, lol
Ian shows us what stars can do ... when they stay commmitted to improving ..... as the years pass. OBVIOUSLY, he still practices to stay sharp and get even better, kids.
Apart from shocking output on radio and media the only reason Big Wreck aren't the biggest band in the world is the fact the world can't get to hear them! Great recording by the way.
They had me at “The Oaf” many years ago. Unbelievable how little people still are not aware of them. In the Nashville area and surprised that they haven’t played the Ryman yet…they have earned it.
Not every band is meant to be huge. And Ian has done some things that are more technical and appealing to musicians. Hes one of my favorite guitarists. Ive watched every interview, podcast, and guitar lesson. Thats the kind of success Ian wants as a teacher and musician. You cant chart or sell records to get that type of notoriety. I think they are right where they should be.
That's the most shredding I've seen him do. It was a great show in Vancouver too, but he didn't cut loose like that! That was great, thanks for sharing.
You may have already noticed, but in the 25+ years I've been a B.W./Ian fan, he usually only does this in very small venues with a miniscule crowd. Even the show we saw at the Commodore, the venue is bigger than the type he usually does this at. I saw BW at Central City Brewing in Surrey in 2005. There couldn't have been more than 200 people there. Twice he took off on solos that were 10+ minutes of him just playing whatever his fingers decided to do (and both were far better than this). He's made brief comments during interviews that his preference is still a small venue with a small crowd. There must be something that flows through him in places like Central City or the small venue in the vid above that brings out his creative "I'm going to make this guitar sing tonight".
P.S. - check out all his TH-cam clips of him playing at the Suhr Factory parties. He does a lot of extended solos when they held those. "Big Wreck/Ian Thornley Suhr Factory" should bring up a pretty long list. th-cam.com/video/xtDtb-2Iuks/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4wQBSgS52SoDwnoI
As fine as this solo is (and thanks for capturing it), I think this is the most outstanding fan captured solo i've seen, right around 3:20 if you want to skip any. He really makes it wail! Simply magic in a bottle. th-cam.com/video/OjpptWQSTh4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=IXjQkxXwKcvdjy72
This is the real Ian. He can go on for hours. He's truly one of the best, yet least talked about guitarists in the world, past or present. Anyone who's not a fan of B.W. or of Ian's solo material is missing out.
@@Maxxis1941ian thornley really is wildly under-discussed by everyone except HARDCORE guitar dorks. He deserves to be EVH famous--everyone should know who he is.

If I had 25 fingers I couldn't play that... even in a million years of trying with 25 fingers. He probably farts in a chromatic minor. What a badass. C'mon Ian... save some pussy for the rest of us!! What a badass. Every time I think I can't get my mind more blown by this guy... well... I'm wrong again. What a badass. Thanks very very much for sharing the great performance!! Very well done! Crystal clear.. super high quality video (GoPro?).. good stable video and all I can say is that I wish I had been there, but thanks to you I feel like I was. Thanks!!!! Oh..... and what a badass!!
I think Ian needs to start playing jazz. The solo was crazy but what was underneath it didn't carry it properly. He can shred so cleanly, what a talent.
Incredible guitarist, I just wish he was a better songwriter. I've heard all the big wreck songs and there's just a handful of a really good ones. The rest of the songs are just songs, nothing special .....
Respectfully disagree. Of course, it comes down to personal preferences but I can think of no less than 20 songs that are very good, another 20 that are so-so, and another 10-15 that I had to delete ‘cause I hated it when they would insinuate themselves on the random BW playlist. 😁
I'm just getting into this band, and this is one of my favorite songs by them. Outstanding musicianship and very resonant lyrics in this one.
If you're into drums too Sekou has a channel with drum perspective from shows and sound fed in from the soundboard.
One of the best guitarists around!! Thanks for sharing
Ian Thornley is my favourite everything!!!!
Well that was insane. Beauty as wee say in Canada. !!!!
As always JD
Was at this show. Dude is rad. This was just a small part of everything he did that was incredible.
I was at this show! Glad he came through Austin, I had to fly into Seattle to see them before

A rare talent who keeps producing
And Dave just there killing it too... 🤯🤯🤯🤯
Ian thornley is one of the best of all time
Most under rated guitarist and also increible on Vocals, check out Albatross if you dont believe me.
You got that right !! WHAT A TALENT.
Great playing and really great tone. Suhr goodness
I just started getting into Ian’s music. I had know idea he was this great of a guitarist. Holy shit.
go check out "The Oaf" live at the Suhr factory event...it's killer.

dude those boots...... and then he starts ripping... good lord.

Now you know why Velvet Revolver didn't want him to play guitar when he tried out for the vocalist spot. He would have upstaged Slash.

This solo sucks as far as musicality goes. It’s just mainly dissonant doodling over the track.
It shows decent shredding chops that’s about it

I notice that he’s a pinky-underutilizer, like myself. Of course, I also have approximately 1/28th of his skill
That's what you get for going to Berklee College of Music
