For ages these office spaces were considered existential hellscapes. Entire novels and films were made all about it. These days they're the object of nostalgia. That's a doozie of an indictment on the years in between. The old hell is the new home.
Perfect representation of starting an office job. At the beginning its all fun and games until you see the true face of your co-workers and the responsibilities increase.
I agree, and I feel like it starts at the 17:51 mark where the song is aggressively upbeat, representing how the person is trying to stay positive but failing
@mackokitt219555 agreed and at 24 min is when you accept you fate and come to grips with it the next song after is you turning to that older middle age mid to senior lvl employee who is trying to climb the ladder but also knows retirement is not too far so they must work hard to build enough for now and after
When we were kids I'll bet lots of us imagined these spaces to be a symbol of security. You were going to grow up and probably work in one of these.. you didn't exactly know what went on in them at the time, but once you did, it would mean you're an "adult" and you're 'done' now. You can work and get money. And somehow that would solve everything. It really is nostalgia for something that never existed; maybe only as a product in the mind. I'm not really missing office spaces (which I'm sitting in right now). I'm missing the pure-hearted assumption that I'd be okay by now. That this would feel like the "place" where I am supposed to be.
If you think about it a lot of the movies from 1980-2005 were all riddled with high rise office workers being main protagonists. We all saw how much we wanted to live like some who portrayed the lavish and futuristic side of it and how much we wanted to stay far away from but knew inevitably if bad choices were made in the near future we would wind up there miserable. Funny what we make up in our heads as we’re younger. Trying to understand something you really don’t know anything about and won’t for some years.
I here ya man, not only that but the furniture and old PCs remind me my old elementary schools libraries and stuff, and it was cozy i guess idk. Also writing this from an office lol hope your day goes well
The song at 13:00… holy sht this triggers so many feels for me. My mom would play this in the late evening after dinner and we were up in our rooms supposed to be sleep but playing Nintendo and Barbie’s and she would be downstairs in her satin nightgown, sipping white peach Arbor Mist, cleaning and waiting for my dad to join her 🥰🥂the summer breeze flowing through my window and the smell of honeysuckle, Fabuloso and steamed rice from dinner floods the house. I hear this faintly playing downstairs, moms relaxed and I hear tipsy laughs. in bed I’m snuggled and safe. I smile to sleep.
Finally! Vaporware that sounds like it's actually from the 80s. This is the kind of stuff I remember playing in the malls and shopping centers my mom would drag us to. I hated it at the time but find it oddly comforting now. Great for concentration while programming anyway.
Ngl, I miss the beige-ness of offices. I remember going to my dad's office when I was a kid for bring your kid to work day and it felt so cozy with the beige and paperwork and electronic all over the desks. If modern computers were more colorful then I wouldn't mind the difference, but it's all just basic modern designs
Cool backstory. That beige color for IBM (that influenced all the rest) was the suggestion of Rear Admiral Grace Hopper, who also wrote the first real programming language. Then she wrote COBOL later, but we can forgive her for that, I think.
This is such a cool mix. I love that a lot of the songs make you feel happy to be working at this office, but then there's these darker tracks that remind you you're trapped forever
I've been listening to this playlist for months while I work in the office I love how it starts with the exterior of the building, continues with the lobby and goes up through all the areas, you explore them until you reach a point where you feel like you shouldn't be there , which seems like there will be no return, but then... the dawn saves you from being in the dream of the eternal office
5:20 - My god, LOOK at the size of those old computers. Those were from back in the day when they had a whopping 64K of RAM and 10 GB of memory was considered massive.
0:23 Not even a minute in and I’m already mesmerized!! Dreaming after the end of the work day, or waking up to a golden sunrise before work. Love it. ❤❤❤❤❤
Of course you love it! Here at Eternal Offices, we strive to ensure our employees’ enjoyment as much as we do our own customers. It’s our honor to make your job an enjoyable one, with the end goal of making our jobs so enjoyable, *you’ll never want to clock out…*
I started working behind a computer in 1991 on an IBM XT with AutoCAD. Six work stations in one room with a secretary up front as you entered from the hall. Over half the people smoked in the place. Holding a half lit cigarette while on the phone with a customer.
13:00 Let's be honest, that person with the water dispenser at their cubicle won't be getting any work done. Too many colleagues start smalltalk or too much hydration causes many toilet breaks.
I use a lot of antiquated databases for my work, and this is what plays in my head when I use them. Weird to hear a real-life version of it with similar esthetics.
Ah I’m so excited to stay at the office and work on my goals. It’s part of a 3 step program I’m using to maximize my career and lifestyle (part of a series I listen to on my walk man every morning). 1991 will be my year!
Nice playlist for the working day. Thanks for making one. Some of the images here are really funny. Especially at 29:34 - such a nice ceiling and giant rainy drops on the windows)) Hmm, in any case I think there are also not-AI generated images of the real environments/places here.

This music fits the vibe perfectly: How to finish your IT Admin tasks with style, POV: Creating new employee accounts in Windows Active Directory. For being a 9 to 5, I really enjoy my new job out of college.
24:36 looks like this: _A new study by commercial real estate firm CBRE found that the vacancy rate for downtown Toronto office space hit 15.8 per cent in the second quarter of 2023, the highest it’s been since 1996. That’s up from just two per cent in March 2020, when the pandemic was declared._
This is hella upbeat for office music. The bouncy, chill swaying beats, dat sax and jazzy chops, rocky guitar licks. Thick and groovy kicks, slapping strings. Ah yes, I hear the music of the hyperspace offices, descending into a black hole, working overtime to sort information and make a dime into a buck. Only the slickest posthumans are calling the time bent phones off the hook and investing in blackhole coin. The atmosphere is chill, frosty and groovy, as efficiency is the currency itself. Any trash, slow bros or tupperware bandits are turned into Hawking Radiation.

Nostalgia? I don't think so lol
Clever
Could covid be one reason?
@@VladmirPoopN For some, why not?
@@Onewa I don't see where the nostalgia comes in considering offices still exist

Nailed it
sounds like the soundtrack to a job that pays enough for a disposable income
True... the trick is that you won't have any time to dispose of said income because of how much work you'll be doing.

Yeah that one is my favorite too

Yeah I spent the whole 90s hating the 80s... and then at some point, I was like : Some of that 80s stuff was pretty cool actually.
heyyy.. what are YOU doing here 🤨

Anyone else feel the need to escape into a 1990s and 2000s aesthetical wonderland? Vaporwave music like this is like a mental vacation for myself.
We need a second mix of this - this is my daily office soundtrack when i get to my desk
The song at 13:00… holy sht this triggers so many feels for me. Beautiful memory, thanks for sharing
A frighteningly appropriate mix to write the final parts of my MS thesis to...
I’m literally sitting in one of the dimly-lit computer labs at my college working on my web development class project as I type this.
I am also doing this exact same. 😂

i love how it get's darker... like my will of living through the years
Late 90s = omg an office job is literal hell
Now = a stable office job would be kinda nice
Woo yeah another 12 hour shift

@@nigeltustin5995 i dont think so, some people derive a lot of satisfaction from 9-to-5s. they enjoy routine and stability. built different i guess
