My wife, who is a harpist (currently sits at a Lyon & Healy `Ogden') was most favorably impressed with your repair on th big L&H pedal harp. "Beautiful" she said.
I so enjoy following your posts! in the Autumn of 1977 I began working for a local antique furniture repair / restoration shop. It was a perfect place for me. I had grown up in a do-it-yourself household. Starting in the mid '50's my grandmother and mother began poking about all the used furniture and 2nd hand stores in Denver, looking for late Victorian pieces of furniture. They focused on painted "Golden Oak" and Eastlake era pieces or sets. They stripped, reglued and refinished their finds. Of course, we kids were drafted into helping out. We lived in a house filled with furniture we had refurbished. Back to the 1977....The owner of the shop had purchased a couple of semi-truck trailers filled with what was called "farmhouse furniture" from folks who scoured the high plains of Nebraska and Kansas, looking for estate auctions. We split our time between taking in local repair / refinish work, and cleaning. repairing and refinishing the inventory in the trailers, putting it up for sale. Over the next few years I went on to work in bigger and more specialized shops. In 1989, I opened my own business, splitting my time between repair and refinishing and building new pieces...replicas and reproductions of Western European, British and American country style antiques which were used by high end interior designers to furnish Rocky Mountain ski resort homes and condominiums. It was a great gig for nearly 45 years. I know and used many of the same finish brands, like Mowhawk and Behlen finish products. I find myself nodding my head in agreement when you pull out Watco oil finishes, shellacs and acrylic lacquers for specific jobs. I knew you were the real deal when you pulled out Oxalic Acid to remove stains! With few variations, I have chosen the same procedures in repair, touch up and finishing; doing only what is absolutely necessary to maintain pantina.... or completely stripping and refinishing pieces that require it. Thanks for sharing your passion. Its much appreciated by this old furniture maker.
Thank you Stephen! I thinks its great when I hear that someone such as yourself was using the same tools, techniques and materials. It's somehow reassuring, even though I didn't think I needed reassurance! Compliments coming from someone such as yourself are the best!
Tom, I only discovered your videos a few years ago but once I did I watched every single one on your channel. The only clickbait I need is that Thomas Johnson has released a new video! You videos are my number one go to when I'm watching TH-cam. Thanks for all that you do and thanks for sharing and teaching it to all of us.
You know that you've stumbled upon a good TH-cam channel when you watch reruns lol. I don't watch TV anymore. Only quality TH-cam channels like this one. Thanks Tom!
Ella is adorable and your animal videos at the beginning and ending are a treat; bonuses to your thoughtful craftsmanship. Thank you for these formerly under loved projects.
I thoroughly enjoy watching a matter craftsman at work who really epitomizes elegance style and doing a fanulous job. An artisan at work. Such a pleasure to see. Tyvm for including us in your intriguing work.
This is my favourite restorer so far. He doesn't hack away at stuff. Only restores the bits that need work. And he doesn't try to throttle you with his personality either. Thanks Tom
I'm a recent subscriber and have been binge watching your older videos. I am a retired teacher, have never restored furniture, and have no plans to start restoring furniture. I just enjoy watching your skill and artistry. Thank you.
Hello Mr Johnson, i like all your video's very much. Your skills are amazing. I have learned a lot waching it. Thank you very much for sharing. Greetings from Holland
I was not aware you’d been making videos that long. I think to myself…”I must have missed so much of your knowledge” It would be interesting to see a series of the jobs you’ve done that frustrated you, complex restorations, simple but interesting restorations, most complicated restorations and so on. You must have a plethora of these videos. I really do like your style of restoring, fixing and rebuilding antiques. I’ve watched numerous different restorers and there’s only one other that is comparable. Keep these coming Thomas because I still really look forward to them. Stay safe and well. 👍🏻😁🇦🇺
I love watching! Thought I'd seen them all so glad to see more. Lol my 4 and 6 year old great granddaughters like watching too. They always know when it's the next day because your clothes are different. 😁
I first saw your work 21 months ago, binging on the episodes during the lockdown. A few of them watched several times. I don’t think there’s an episode I’ve missed.
Relaxing to be sure, but the incredible skill and art keeps me engaged and in awe of what you do. Thanks for sharing your work with us all these years here.
Hi Thomas, I do not know if click bait titles work or not, I have subscribed to your channel and selected “all,” so you come up in my notifications and I watch all your selections and even sometimes watch ones that I have already watched if I run out of notification. I would imagine many of your subscribers are the same.
People like you, who still know the handcraft, are so rare nowadays. It is so sad so little young people chose a job in which you can work with your hands and mind, instead of behind a computer
As always, beautiful work and I always learn so much. I borrowed from your playbook this week. My high school best friend brought me a round stool seat that had split along the grain. I traced the curvature along scrap boards and cut them on the band saw so I could clamp on a straight edge and get even clamping pressure all around. The split went together like butter and Paw-Paw's stool is whole once again. Chalk up another one for Thomas Johnson Antique TH-cam University. 😁 Thanks so very much!
I've been enjoying your videos for over 2 years. Admittedly, I haven't seen them all. But I'm not going to "harp" on that. I'll just continue to watch what you put out.
My dad did restoration work for moving companies in Chicago, IL many years ago. An earlier trade was a furniture maker for a company in Boice, I D. All hand tools in those days! Watching your videos reminds me of watching him work. Thank you!
These videos teach me to be patient. I don't restore or even try to restore furniture. I just marvel at the approach and care you put into the work. Thank you for sharing.
I hope you’re making your videos for another 40 years. I just sold the home we lived in for the past 30 years. I used many of the woodworking techniques you have shared on your videos. Thank you Mr. Johnson
I’ve watched all of these separately and now again. Great stuff. I’ve learned a lot from watching these and have used your methods to repair a few pieces. Tom your masterful and your videos are top quality including your animal intro’s and faithful Ellie. Thank you.
Great group of vlogs I haven't seen in the past. I'd love to see one of your clients picking up their project to see the reaction on their face. All your projects are a work of art.
Mr Johnson, I would like you to know that you do not need click bait titles to get views. Many will look at you stuff because it is you posting and they enjoy the superb quality and skill of your wood working. You wish to reach more viewers you may be better served to say what you are going to teach in each video and then do that. "We are going to fix this veneer on a table edge and show you how to not only do the repair, but show how to match colors such that you can not see/tell where the repair is. Things like that will show folks ahead of time why they need to watch. I do not comment often but very much enjoy the craft and experience that you bring to the table. I ALWAYS LEARN FROM YOU, and hope to carry that forward to younger wood workers that I meet.
I can't believe you don't have more Subscribers. I've learned so much. I was able to patch a hole in our hardwood floor, match the finish, all absorbed from this channel.
I am proud to have subscribed to this channel. The quality and thought employed in the content is superb. I always look forward to the newly published videos. Many times I have gone back and looked at older videos.
Delighted to have found this series of restorations. These were all new to me and I am so glad i didn’t miss them. Hugs to both you and Ella. Stay safe. From Canada
Yes that’s TH-cam and how things work. For myself, I have never missed a video and don’t need click bait to watch you practice your craft. Just wanted you to know your channel is appreciated and if click bait is how to spread the word then click bait it is. I started watching you 11 years ago when my dad (a craftsman from Massachusetts)passed away. Your channel helped. Thank you.
I’m pretty sure I’ve watched every single video you’ve made regardless of the dreariness of the title. I remember that harp for sure! Love your work. Cheers!
Enjoyed the furniture restoration marathon Tom. Your level of skill still amazes me and how you repair some of the pieces I would have thought to be trash. Thanks for taking the time to produce the videos. You all take care and God bless.
Tom, you and craftsmen such as yourself, are a national treasure. Your work is impeccable and the results are flawless. I have been watching for years and continue to be amazed at what you are capable of. Thank you.
That chest repair was timely. I have 2 tool chests that need the same hinge repair. One was built by my father (would be 98 this summer) and the other by my brother in law's grandfather. Fortunately, they were both full of tools when I got them. I enjoy using those old tools. Hopefully I have learned a thing or two watching your videos. Thanks.
It's possible I missed some, I did try to watch them all, I really enjoy watching a top craftsperson at work, very educational! Thanks and please keep them coming!!

I just want to say how much I enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing your expertise and knowledge with all of us. I’ve learned a lot from you. Blessings to you and your family 👌🥰🥴
Sitting down to watch this entire video was such a huge treat to myself. Tom you never cease to amaze me. It's always a joy to see each piece after it's been in your very capable hands. Thank you so much for sharing this beauty with us. Sending ear scratches to your shop assistant. I hope she's keeping well.
Ooh what a great idea, I think I've only been subscribed a couple of years so this should be interesting. Sadly I won't be able to enjoy it in one sitting today, (family party) but by starting it there will be a record of it in my 'library' to remind me to come back to it. Thanks Tom 👏👍
Well, it took two days but boy was it worth it! Amazing work Tom your attention to detail is just superb and you know how much I admire your colour matching skills especially. Mind you at one point with that last chair I had to do a double take as the first spray-can came out. You used your blue tape to cover the upholstery but as the fabric was also blue there was a moment there when I thought you'd missed a bit and was about to cover it in spray! 😂 I think the owners must think you've performed some sort of magic on their treasures. It must be nice for them to know that they can get to see the process if they want to.... I'm sure they think it looks pretty good. 👍 👏
My wife, who is a harpist (currently sits at a Lyon & Healy `Ogden') was most favorably impressed with your repair on th big L&H pedal harp. "Beautiful" she said.
Thanks! That's great! I've worked on a lot of Lyon & Healeys, always enjoyed it

It's a great repair when you can't tell which leg you repaired. Very well done.!!!!!
Thanks! Yes, I love it when that happens!
This is my favourite restorer so far. He doesn't hack away at stuff. Only restores the bits that need work. And he doesn't try to throttle you with his personality either. Thanks Tom
You're welcome! I appreciate it
Getting baked and settling into a 90-minute Tom Johnson video is absolutely sublime! More please...
Oh yeah! Thanks!
I appreciate these compilations. Parts of it I have already watched before, but I don’t mind watching them again.
Thanks! me too! I enjoy seeing them again
I love how you say " I think it looks pretty good" after each project, when each project you undertake is far better than pretty good.
Thanks! I appreciate that!
Thank you for teaching me that the entire piece doesn’t need to be “stripped”. These pieces look better than “pretty good”. They look exceptional!
Thank you!
Never gets boring or drab we all learn something new every time you put a new video out keep them coming. 😀😀👍👍
Thanks! 👍
Thanks Tom. I'm happy to watch these clips anytime.
Glad you like them! Thanks!

Tom, I enjoyed the videos. Especially how you set up the router templates. And I've never tried rubbing down wet paint. Thanks.
You're welcome! Well, the paint wasn't wet! But yes, wet sanding works well for this situation
