    I use color catches sheets in the washer about 4 sheets Per quilt. And wash in cold water dry low. And I have not had any color bleeding in my quilts.

    I liked the baby shark examples! I think 2 quilts with the same fabric in different orders would make sweet baby twin quilts!

    Wow Donna, we started the same way and probably around the same time. Sewing our own clothes at about 10, then the kids clothes. I remember buying fabric for .50 a yard and making a little bib outfit. Then the suit for my husband. Then quilting. One thing about sheets for backing. I've always heard that judges will not approve of that, so if entering a competition, you might not want to do that. I adore Hannah. Love seeing her.

    Can't wait for the fat quarter book. I have several stacks of them I just want to use. Almost finished my baseball (Checkmate) quilt and it is really cute. I have another focus fabric I want to use this Checkmate pattern for; fabrics I don't want to cut into little pieces and don't want to spend endless hours on. This pattern is perfect for that.

    I never pre wash - I always add color catchers 2-5 depending on the size of the quilt. The fabric sheets go in first then add the quilt.

    Donna can you do video's that use your great 3 yard quilt technique Making quilt. As you go I love the quilt as you go technique. Because there's less bulk underneath my sewing machine when, doing the quilting. But I love your three yard quilt technique also. I'm not sure how to incorporate both of them?

    • @FabricCafe
      @FabricCafe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't really studied that, so I'm not sure. Donna

    When I first started making quilts, I used sheets, but I was also tacking every 4 inches. That was 25 years ago. I can't sit on the floor like that anymore.

    Great information! While watching this video, I am cutting. Do you recommend ironing the fabric before cutting and using Mary Ellen’s Best Press or is water okay?
    Thank you for these helpful videos!

    • @FabricCafe
      @FabricCafe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like using the Best Press. It gives the fabric extra crispness and then it sews up like a dream! Thanks for watching! Donna

    I don't go with the theory that pressing open weakens the seam. If garments can take the strain of pressed-open seams (and we wear those clothes and wash them far more often than a quilt) then a quilt can certainly be pressed open without undue stress on the seams.

    • @FabricCafe
      @FabricCafe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that theory came about during the time that most quilts were pieced by hand. It might have been true if large gaping stitches were used. I have one of the first quilts we made with 3-yards. It is well used, well loved and washed numerous times. The seems were pressed open and not one has ever broken in the 13 years I've used it. Thanks for commenting. Donna

    At times I’d like to trade a fabric in another kit for one in a kit of three. Is that possible?. Or do I need to order both kits?

    • @FabricCafe
      @FabricCafe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. We try to accomodate when we can, but due to the rapidity of some quilts selling, we might not have what you request.Also, prices vary from kit to kit, fabric to fabric so there might be an additional charge. Donna

    Could you do a segment just for international orders?...eg.can you show .what size boxes/ packets you ship kits in..how many fit in each..or how many booklets &fabrics or best value for money or..what if i do an order how much more can fit in to fill up the box or packets.any othertips??. We dont expect free shipping but want full value!!

    I only like to wash my quilt after they are finished. I use a color catcher in the wash water to help with bleeding
