That's why I started on hard mode, I wanted difficulty back and they did deliver, and man u are right beating yoshimoto in first chapter was hard I had red hp and was running around waiting for musou, reminded me of SW2 mikatagahara tadakatsu or even hulao gate lubu lol..
I was actually proud of myself when I beat him on the first try. Even though I came out of that fight pretty beaten and had to run around the map to find healing items.
Koei always come so close to nailing it. With a smaller roster of characters, I really would have liked to have seen more age ups. Not sure how I feel about hyper attack combo enders being taken out, but I agree that they did need an overall nerf. They were ridiculous in WO4. I was on the fence about getting SW5 at full price but I think I'm gonna go download the demo right now. I'll probably end up buying it right after just cause I'm a sucker for Warriors games lol. I am glad that we are getting back to more of a story focus.
I know how you feel I had so many moments where I would do hyper attacks thrn press square thinking it would be a finisher only to restart the normal attack because I play too much SW 4
Ah, I was curious about that and that's the reason I held off getting it. If it's just story mode and free battles like all the other main entry warriors games, I'll just wait for the Empires version.
@@jetzdream I’m honestly not sure if there will be an empires version of this game as it cut most of the characters and most of the cast are oda characters. Unless they bring back Masamune, Ujiyasu, Motochika, Yoshihiro etc and give them generic weapons, they might not do an empires game.
Love your enthusiasm! Plus, your insight is excellent, having that you have so much experience in previous instalments! Excellent review. Thank you man!
I tried the demo, and I've honestly impressed. Yeah the roster cuts and clones suck, but it's clear that this is Koei trying to reinvent Samurai Warriors. Hell, Yukimura has been the poster boy for the series from the start and he's not here. It does honestly make me more hopefully for future releases because this new foundation is incredibly solid.
@@junandeo12345 they probably wouldn’t do Yukimura right away since we already got Spirit of Sanada, so we’ve already gotten a whole SW game dedicated to his family. Though I’m sure that next we’ll get a character story that’ll go further in the timeline, which will almost inevitably mean that Yukimura comes back next game.

Honestly it’s the best warriors game since the PS2 era for me and I’ve played almost every entry since DW2 when I was very young. Omega Force really upped the quality here with fresh movesets, maps and character designs; they are really listening to to try and improve their games after the DW9/WO4 low point,
The game is awesome other than 2 big complaints. 1) I hate the weapon switching, I wish characters themselves got to be more unique. 2) Needs a cool/better side mode. As a foundation though, its real solid.
Bro it's funny how your review is so much better than the Ones from gaming journalists ,like gaming Bolt did a terrible review were they barely talked about the gameplay mechanics and story, you review was the most detailed
At this is a "mini" review. I didn't even talk about each individual character, my favourite story moments, or Citadel Mode. I don't want to think about how long a full review would be. Hahaha
@@ChrisGildart exactly lol and This is already miles better than other reviews,i am also a musou fan so i would buy samurai warriors 5 either way but still wanted to check the reviews your review was the best
They decided to make Yoshimoto drop the comedy crap and turn him into a powerful adversary that Nobunaga must beat in order to establish himself as a major player in Japan’s Sengoku Jidai
@@michaelbandada9887 I love it, fits history too. He was always supposed to be a huge threat to Nobunaga. And they nailed the feeling with the difficulty and design
i really enjoy this game. The new character design and art style are really great. Reminds me a lot of DW7, which focused a lot on the characters and that was a good choice. So far, i am really loving it. it looks so good on my series x. Though, maybe it is just nostalgia, i still love Samurai warriors 2 the most.
I noticed that you who posted this review right now so I'm so I was gonna basically sit and watch the whole thing but I currently have samurai Warriors 5 playing on my switch right now and I don't want to be spoiled anything even though I know what happens to these 2 specific characters with my experience with some of the games in the series but my friend mentioned something that made me go wait they haven't done that since the 1st game so I'm just gonna say this real quick: I really am enjoying the more focused level on story as well as how the characters are developing. New characters and what they've been doing to them as of now is pretty well thought out and solid especially Sena and Mitsuki with certain parts of the story. Yeah there are still some things that they could improve on and yes there are some characters that are not in this game that I wish were in this game cough cough a certain monkey's wife cough cough but overall as a reboot this is fun and soild! Fantastic job with the review as usual Chris even though I haven't seen all of this other than the 1st 2 minutes I already tell that you may have done a great job on it and I will check out the review in full once I finish my adventure with SW5!
I'll be honest. I only really kept an eye on who is playable and what weapons there will be. Going in with only that amount of knowledge was great. I would say that this is the first Warriors game that requires a spoiler warning!
My wife and I played co-op last night and it was a lot of fun. She hasn't gotten into a Warriors game since SW2 so it's cool to see her actually wanting to play through the story herself.
I agree, having an Older Nobunaga talking to still a child Ieyasu is kinda weird. Slight minut changes to everyone's designs would have been preferable. Also, is there character customization in this game, like in SW4? I really enjoyed how they did it in that game.
@@ChrisGildart Damn, that's unfortunate. Still, the game still looks pretty good nonetheless. I'm really surprised on how well the Cel-shaded look suits it. It gives me a lot of Samurai Shodown 2019 vibes, which I just adore that art style.
Since Nobunaga got aged up along with Mitsuhide, I think Ieyasu should have gotten his haircut that he sported in prior Samurai Warriors games and in real life
I'm in love with this game so far. the design, the moveset( even if some of them are clones), the story script and its cutscene. man this is the best samurai warriors games ive ever played.
This game really reminds me of DW7 in the sense that it doesn’t have a much emphasis on the movesets and doesn’t change up too much in the combat while focusing more on the story mode and making it one of the better ones in the series. I’m also enjoying this games story though because each character feels brand new and it makes it seem like the story being told is also new, even if I know the Sengoku Jidai really well. I also like how bosses work in this game. It haven’t gotten very far in the story but it makes taking down enemies like Yoshimoto and Yoshitatsu all the more satisfying. Especially when you’ve fought them before. Also I haven’t seen it mentioned so I don’t know if it’s just me but the Bow moveset seems to be way too powerful, regardless of if it’s you using it or an enemy. I feel like whenever I use the bow (mainly with Noh) it just kills enemies way quicker than anything else and when I run into an enemy with a bow it does more damage than any other type of weapon.
I'm definitely gunna get this, but $130 AUD for the Digital Deluxe Edition is way too fucking much. I'll wait til the Steam Winter Sale at least. Thanks for your review, big fan of you and the Warriors games!
Amazed that literally anyone likes this game so I hope someone reads this and responds to me more about why they like it but: Summary of thoughts about this game: the basis of this whole argument is who asked for this? It’s admirable and respectable they want to do something new with the game, but it felt like it was flailing at every turn. Why focus on only nobunaga and mitsuhide? And if you are, why half ass it? No Ranmaru, no Keiji, no Gracia. Why omit these characters? And then a bunch of the other new characters while maybe fun, have no historical relevance most of the time outside “guy who died to nobunaga” like there’s a reason that these characters never existed before in the series, their relevance to the story is so minimal and their role stretched so thin, like sandayu’s relationship with hideyoshi is completely made up. And sure it’s okay to make things up and have fun with the story but their grasping at straws. Then the new characters and designs are just a whole mess, kenshin is an overexaggerated caricature of his former self, yoshimoto is a cooler version of himself, but part of his personality was a satire on the sad state of politicians and warlord s at the time being jokes. Then there’s laziness with characters like yasuke, as if they couldn’t do anything more than make a black guy shirtless, give him dreads and make him punch people. Very original. Then other characters like Nō are devoid of personality, despite character arcs written intended for you to feel things for her, but again compared to her previous self, she’s just a generic anime girl. Lastly, Tadakatsu and Toshiie are basically the same character personality wise, and Nobunaga’s young design is literally a clone of Keiji from sengonku basara. Like?? Then the whole clone thing. For a roster this small, with even bonus characters that have nothing unique, they still couldn’t even bother to make unique movesets for everyone. Somehow hanzo and Hanbei got unique weapons, but not nobunaga. How. There’s just no excuse for the clones in this day n age it’s unacceptable, especially when they could’ve literally just used old movesets. Again who asked for this? To completely have everything we liked taken away? Who was asking for a samurai warriors reboot? This game would’ve been so much better if it was simply not called 5, it feels like an insult to everything that came before. Last complaint from the gameplay, citadel mode is a joke compared to previous samurai warriors modes, it’s gameplay is really wonky and frustrating for a game that’s also harder than other warriors games, a good thing, but it’s just a no effort mode to pad runtime for a game that has barely anything to offer, and how do they pad the run time further? By locking progression behind walls of story, so you’re not even allowed to have certain warriors game standard features like weapon crafting. And then the combat of this game…I’ll admit immediately doing normal attacks after hyper attacks is nice, but they literally removed hyper attacks having their own charge attacks cause I guess what? Can’t bother to animate? And like I could go on but I can’t type every detail for anyone who’s read this far, but again it’s admirable to try to reboot things and do something new, but who asked for this? Nobody was wanting a reboot, yukinura being poster boy for a long time doesn’t mean it’s time to completely shift the story to someone else in a very narrow perspective in time, and no game is perfect, but to actively remake everything from the ground up, but half ass the character design and personality, movesets, modes, it’s just like why? And if anyone says Covid, all I can say is this: they didn’t have to release the game. P.S. 40 extra dollars for a deluxe edition that gives you costumes for only 2 characters, one of the costume sets of which is literally just a recolor, higher tier weapons weapons, new horses, and some new levels. What the fuck. I’ve already heard in Japan this game isn’t doing well, so maybe it’s just gonna be polarizing in the warriors community about who likes it and who doesn’t. But….agh. I can’t like this game.
Running attacks are still in the game, it just like with air combos it’s only for some weapons. The Kusarigama and the Sledge both have running attacks.
I must not have noticed it while playing those movesets. I mostly chose the characters that were lower in level while going through the story, and didn't use those weapons as much.
@@ChrisGildart same here that’s why I didn’t notice at first either. I think like with air attacks spreading those attacks out is a way to make playstyles different so it’s gonna take some getting used to.
Dual swords also have a running attack. The drum also seems to have a slightly different first hit after running as well making me think they all DO have running attacks but they vary in the degree of being noticeable.
@@HaaziqSilver All videos that talk about SW5 i say that , I only play with female characters and in a roster of 27 only 4 female characters is terrible for me.
@@antonyetta- don't think you'll succeed with changing anything in the comments plus is there really that many female warriors in the Sengoku war or do you expect them to just make more up
Also, if Samurai Warriors 5 managed to turn Yoshimoto into a fearsome adversary, looks like the next on the personality makeover would be Baby Xu Zhu, Zhang Hei Exotico and Wei…Yan…Smash!
I'm a huge fan of this franchise. Even though My first samurai warriors game i played was later on after high school. I've played most dynasty warriors games. So i picked this game up at GameStop and I've been playing every since. The story is good and I have a new found respect for Nobunaga Oda. Even though he's totally evil in other games
I've had a lot of mixed feeling about this game. The cloning is way more noticeable to me than to you (which I'm glad for). I also could never figure out why my combos felt "limp" and "unfinished" at times; so I'm really happy you pointed out what the issue was. Despite my feelings, I'm happy you gave this a positive spin. Thank you
Great review! Keep up the good work, dude! I'm kind of hoping that Koei Tecmo doesn't do a "Samurai Warriors 5-II" and if they do make more content that they just release it as an Ultimate pack like in Orochi 4. I'm very excited to dive into this game🎮
I would say that there's still much more I could talk about too. Considering this "mini" review was 20 minutes I might need to take half a year to create the full review. 😅
I think it makes sense and is ultimately understandable that they did not want to age up Tokugawa or Hideyoshi in this game, despite it being uncanny. Considering the amount of set up for the next game, where those two will be the most prominent ones, it's natural that they didn't want to "lock" themselves into designs for a game that will probably be another 2-3 years in the making.
I honestly wouldn't mind seeing a Dynasty Warriors that focuses on one clan or a shorter period of time as long as they dive deep into the characters and give us good story telling like they did here.
I agree if they're going to age up they need to commit to it or it looks very odd. Especially with the cut down characters and move sets, frankly theres no excuse.
Hyper attacks was a breath of fresh air to the franchise in 4. But definitely drained some of the fun out of the game over time. Glad to hear about the nerfs.
I'm sorry, but I can't agree with this game being the best Samurai Warriors game yet. I've played warriors games at varying degrees since DW 2 and I always play at least the main entries in DW and SW. This feels watered down in many ways. I just find the game just doesn't justify it being a "reboot". I'd rather it have been a kind of "Spirit of Oda" kind of approach rather than a main entry. In main entries I expect the whole time period being covered somewhat. I know SW 1 did this focusing on this time period, but I chalk it up to the series being mainly made as a spin off to DW. Now that SW is basically almost toe to toe with DW, I can very much see this approach in content and story in this game being like a sub franchise called "Spirit of (insert clan here)". That gives so much more focus on the time period they want to convey and might even help with the whole aging character design. The clones have always been a problem of these warriors games, but this one felt like back in the old days and not in a good way. DW 8 is still my favorite warriors game to date and that game has A LOT of unique move sets. Since there's less weapons and characters in SW 5 the cloned move sets just felt exacerbated for me. I'm spoiled since DW 8 and am saddened it hasn't been replicated again. The music also just didn't do it for me either. I think SW5 music lost it's SW musical identity with it's techno/traditional Japanese music I associate with SW. Adding the music style of DW just makes this feel like a lesser focused experience. If I wanted both music styles to collide, I'll just play an Orochi game. It does it there and, I think, much better and thematically makes sense more. I can see where you're getting at with this review, and many people feel the same as you. But for me, this game just felt like a massive disappointment for me.
Samurai Warriors 6: A Land United Hideyoshi and Ieyasu will be the focus of the sequel as well as the various personalities that have been involved during their lifetimes i.e. the Sanada family, Ishida Mitsunari, Date Masamune, Shima Sakon, et al. The big question is this, will the Korean Campaign be included or forever excluded? After all, the Mt Hiei massacre has been a playable level in Samurai Warriors 5 and that level is the moment where Nobunaga embraced his inner demon
An awesome well done in depth review! Best one I’ve seen of this game so far. Though I’m curious, would you do a Pros vs Cons review on the dynasty warriors movie?
@@ChrisGildart Really? Been so much time since I played it that I honestly forgot about it. Btw, didn't expect to get a reply by you Chris. Made my day!
I feel like a big part of that is how Koei hadn't been supporting it post launch. If there were more DLC and if it was worthwhile, people would be talking about it similar to the hypothetical stories in DW9.
I much prefer DW over SW... but given the absolute state of 9 and even what Hyrule Warriors 2 delivered..... I want a good Musou game to play. I never felt like the story in SW games expanded per installment like the DW games did... but maybe it's because I started on DW games first.
Just little random nitpick: you've got GREAT pronunciation of Japanese words... except for when you say "katana". All the weabs commit sepukku everytime you said it. 😂😂😂
I know that feeling. My current PC can barely run my editing software at times. That's why I've stuck so hard to consoles. But I'm hoping that changes soon for the both of us.
Great review! Now that you mentioned kessen iii, another game of koei portrayed the Sengoku period of Japan as the center of Nobunaga and Mitsuhide, why won't you make a review of it? That game was so underrated, and I actually enjoyed it. Anyway, keep up the good work!
@@ChrisGildart Then I’ll recommend you give it a shot. Kessen 3 was a good game, although it was very different from the musou series, but very unique on its own way
No worries man, I get it. I stayed away from as much info as possible before working on this review. It is a game you want to go as blindly into as possible. At least story wise, which is why I stayed away from as much as possible.

I am really liking the game. My only issue with it is unfortunately a major one. These games really do need an English dub. It's almost impossible to keep up with the dialogue during gameplay. I miss out on most of what's going on. Koei should get the best English speakers they have as programmers and make them do the dubbing. It would most likely turn out really funny, but at least I would know what's going on. At the very least they could include a transcript function so you can pause the game and read it. Lots of games have something similar.
@@ChrisGildart I can only hope we at least get the transcript idea for the next one. The lack of English dub is the only thing keeping me from getting Orochi 4 and DW 8.
Something I didn't like and because it wasn't done again (or at least so far) When you kill Yoshimoto there is the bit when you take his sword and Nobunaga changes to a sword user I thought that was cool but then they never use this again (or so far I'm half way through ch5). I wouldn't want Nobunaga to get all the weapons but I'd of loved to see hell even Ieyasu go to Odachi as a sign of "aging" when you beat back the Takeda and take it from the fake Shingen OR if (SPOILER) didn't happen for Kicho to get Asakura's Bow, also a very strange design for Asakura as they've always been made to be a tough military power is past SW games and Kessen Series and here he's thin pretty boy bow user to the point where Nagamasa seems more of a man. I do also wish they made you go to Citadel mode as until the end of Ch4 I had Lvl1 buildings and everyone bar Nobunaga were all
I would prefer No to be the seductive mistress of evil who wants to see Oda Nobunaga raise Hell and she would have a Snow White/Evil Queen dynamic with Oichi where No despises Oichi for being beautiful and kindhearted
@@ChrisGildart it was pretty noticeable for me since the cast is smaller but i kinda wish they had more then just unique EXs to help with that but still disappoints me i said in another comment sometimes it feels they just put more effort in a game when its not they money. ALso mega agree with you everyone not aging up is just silly
Hey Chris alongside Arslan I also picked up another game, a game you absolutely need to pick up and try, it's called EARTH'S DAWN. It's so fun and it's pretty anime, the music and combat are both amazing! And the graphics are pretty great!.
So ima few years late. Do you think this game is on par with dynasty warriors 3 or 4? I love me a good hack and slash it's on sale right now for the ultimate edition (all dlc). I remember seeing my first on ps1 or 2 idk what (N64 here) 20+ years ago. I want another Gundam one but probably won't ever get one.
I don't know if I would say SW5 hits the same high as DW3 or 4, but I did enjoy my time with it and even bought it on every console, so that's gotta mean something, right? 😅
Really the only advantage I see is variety and personal preference. I like to mix things up, but someone else may prefer to only use a couple of weapons.
I’m glad you enjoy the game and the review is fantastic! Overall this game is meh for me. I think the stage design, visual style, and combat feel/difficulty are all steps in the right direction. But the redesigns are hit and miss, clones movesets are damn near unforgivable, especially considering the roster isn’t even half the size of what it was in the previous game, and certain characters missing such as Naotora, Ujiyasu, etc makes no sense. Also the fact that a sizable number of characters are hardly even playable (maybe like 2-3 stages max) despite the smaller roster is super unfortunate. Overall I’d say I still prefer SW4 and it’s expansions/spin offs, but I’m still enjoying SW5 for what it is.
Gr8 review I feel the same way about Samurai Warriors 5 hope there is more to come, have a question though which Samurai Warriors game would you recommend out of Samurai Warriors 4 , 4-2,Spirit of Sanada, and 4 Empires? I know they won't be like Samurai Warriors 5(the way the story is told/graphics/roster-wise) and this is fine. I'm new to the Samurai Warriors series just recently learning it and Orochi existed *faceplam*, but i'm no stranger to Koei/warriors games as i've played the Kessen series, Dw Tactics, DW5, DW6, DW7, DW7E, DW8, DW8XL and DW8E. :)
Honestly, if you enjoyed SW5 you'd more than likely enjoy Spirit of Sanada. It focuses on the story of one clan and since its a spin-off of SW4, you get all the characters. Besides that, I liked SW4 Vanilla the most out of the other three.
i begin to wonder and this is just my subjective rant... I know battlefield like Warriors Games (whether it's Dynasty Warriors or Samurai Warriors) there's a lot of troops litter the arena/screen since it's a hack and slash, 1 v 1000 type of game and you can guess that... if you don't have a good or a real powerful system, you are gonna suffer, unless if you dare to push through it, overlook it, and pray your system not to blow up... and when you have to tone down the graphics in terms of how many enemies there are on the screen, the battlefield feels... too open, almost feels... hollow. i would continue, but i'm in the middle of work/crisis. p.s. Great Video PvC, I enjoy it all since
It feel so nice to see Musou stuff in this day and age. I stopped at the 2nd game since I couldnt afford the consoles the following entries came out (and my PC can't handle them either ;p) but god I love to see how this series progressed. 5 looks gorgeous and I agree with most your points, but a peeve of mine is Oichi in this game. Not her design, love it, but her weapon choice. Ofuda, really? It doesnt suit her! I could see Gracia, if she was in this game, using the moveset (as her incarnations in previous game are flavored as a mage) but Oichi feels a bit odd to see using ofuda to fight.
The Grow up idea really is one of the things that looks a must when you grow other characters, It could be a skind as you said only, but, something just to show the differences, even with less characters but more focus on it could help a lot with it. But even being a good game, i felt it has TOO MUCH TUTORIALS, man, I just want to play, don't hold my hand like I'm a child.
@@ChrisGildart It has the option? Good to know I thought it was from the game itself, haven't bothered to check. Do they ask if you want the tutorial? I may have missed that part.
And thinking on it, that's a con from SW above DW, I've played DW from 3 to 8 and never felt it, but I've player SW 1 and now 5 and I was already orritate with the tutorial
I beat this game 100%. Although I enjoyed it for what it is, Samurai Warriors 5 is by far the worst Samurai Warriors game I've played. Yes, even worse than Samurai Warriors 3: - Cut roster, yet cloned moveset. - So many cloned maps, even though this game has less stages compare to the previous titles. - Characters are barely playable in the story mode, defeating the purpose of having smaller roster. - Free mode is restricted in terms of the characters you can use. Yet in some stages, you have two of the same characters at the same side. Completely defeats the purpose of restricting free mode in the first place. - Missing battles that define the characters, such as Tetorigawa (Uesugi side), Kizugawaguchi (Mori side), Anegawa (Azai-Asakura side), and others. - Was marketed as an in-depth story of Nobunaga and Mitsuhide, yet a lot of important events were not covered. - Lack of gameplay modes. - No pre-title opening cutscene. - Charging alternate colors and costume swaps, for pre-order bonuses. - Rare weapons are tied to weapon types, and not characters. - Moveset distribution between weapons are not balanced.
This game is not even close to be in better than Samurai Warriors 1 and 2 and honestly nobunaga's ambition rise of power and kessen 3 did the story way better than this this was a big let down
I don’t know if I wanna get this game right away in all honesty. I’ve played mostly dynasty warrior games my whole life and I think the samurai take on it is pretty interesting but I just wanna know if it’s worth getting

Yoshimoto imagawas design in this game is freaking amazing
They decided to make Yoshimoto drop the comedy crap and turn him into a powerful adversary that Nobunaga must beat in order to establish himself as a major player in Japan’s Sengoku Jidai
@@michaelbandada9887 I love it, fits history too. He was always supposed to be a huge threat to Nobunaga. And they nailed the feeling with the difficulty and design
Great review man, it's awesome to hear your thoughts! And I agree, Koei needs to release the OST!!!
I'll still import the CDs from Japan, but at least put it on western streaming platforms!!
i really enjoy this game. The new character design and art style are really great. Reminds me a lot of DW7, which focused a lot on the characters and that was a good choice. So far, i am really loving it. it looks so good on my series x. Though, maybe it is just nostalgia, i still love Samurai warriors 2 the most.
I noticed that you who posted this review right now so I'm so I was gonna basically sit and watch the whole thing but I currently have samurai Warriors 5 playing on my switch right now and I don't want to be spoiled anything even though I know what happens to these 2 specific characters with my experience with some of the games in the series but my friend mentioned something that made me go wait they haven't done that since the 1st game so I'm just gonna say this real quick:
I really am enjoying the more focused level on story as well as how the characters are developing.
SW 5 demo sold me over and i will enjoy the co-op it with my friends
My wife and I played co-op last night and it was a lot of fun. She hasn't gotten into a Warriors game since SW2 so it's cool to see her actually wanting to play through the story herself.
I agree, having an Older Nobunaga talking to still a child Ieyasu is kinda weird. Slight minut changes to everyone's designs would have been preferable.
Also, is there character customization in this game, like in SW4? I really enjoyed how they did it in that game.
There's no custom characters.
@@ChrisGildart Damn, that's unfortunate. Still, the game still looks pretty good nonetheless. I'm really surprised on how well the Cel-shaded look suits it. It gives me a lot of Samurai Shodown 2019 vibes, which I just adore that art style.
Since Nobunaga got aged up along with Mitsuhide, I think Ieyasu should have gotten his haircut that he sported in prior Samurai Warriors games and in real life
My favorite alongside SW2 for sure
Me with Zhou Yu in every Dynasty Warriors game
I'm in love with this game so far.
the design, the moveset( even if some of them are clones), the story script and its cutscene. man this is the best samurai warriors games ive ever played.
I was a grand prize winner of Koei-Tecmo's giveaway, and I'm glad for my luck cause Idk if I would've gotten this game otherwise
I've actually been enjoying the game a whole lot. Thanks for the review so far. Excited to see the full review in the future.
I'm definitely gunna get this, but $130 AUD for the Digital Deluxe Edition is way too fucking much. I'll wait til the Steam Winter Sale at least. Thanks for your review, big fan of you and the Warriors games!
Great review my brother!
Amazed that literally anyone likes this game so I hope someone reads this and responds to me more about why they like it but:
Summary of thoughts about this game: the basis of this whole argument is who asked for this?
I just bought the game today. Got the digital deluxe game. Looking forward to playing ESPECIALLY with Yasuke!!!
Enjoy him in the three stages he is playable
Samurai Warriors 5 is on Sale for $39 currently!!
I'm gonna enjoy this, for sure.
Running attacks are still in the game, it just like with air combos it’s only for some weapons. The Kusarigama and the Sledge both have running attacks.
The cannon also has a running attack.
I’m loving the game so far. I cannot wait to do my twelve hour stream of it on Friday
This is definitely a 12 hour streamable game!
Why twelve hours are you going for a completion play through or something.
I get they are focus in Nubunaga and Mitsuhide history but i think the roster should have more female characters.
Feel like I've seen your comments so many times you're real consistent on female warriors lol

Never thought of that.
🤣😂
i played the demo on pc, and this demo rekindle my love for musou game
Every time I play this it reminds me of the classics!
Considering how well received the redesign are, expect to see dynasty warriors do it too...
Please.
I hope not
Also, if Samurai Warriors 5 managed to turn Yoshimoto into a fearsome adversary, looks like the next on the personality makeover would be Baby Xu Zhu, Zhang Hei Exotico and Wei…Yan…Smash!
Enjoying this one a lot. Art style and those poster moments are fantastic
I got bored after so many clone weapons. Sad this game have potential. Nice artwork and many more. Hope the DLC koei will release unique weapon
Thank you
8:47-8:58 Thank you!! Thank you for saying that!
Im really glad you made this review. Steam reviews made this game sound like crap but your in depth review really made me wanna buy this game :)
I would say that there's still much more I could talk about too. Considering this "mini" review was 20 minutes I might need to take half a year to create the full review. 😅
I can't understand why Hanzo got a new wepaon and someone else got his old one.
I know. I always give him the kusarigama in this game.
I think Dynasty Warriors 10 should use a altered version of the model. But I love my dozens of characters lol
I honestly wouldn't mind seeing a Dynasty Warriors that focuses on one clan or a shorter period of time as long as they dive deep into the characters and give us good story telling like they did here.
Bought this on the most recent steam sale for 40 something cdn and it has been very worth it! Runs great on my pc too which was a worry
Honestly, the PC version is probably the best looking and performing.
@@ChrisGildart what a stark difference from most large games released today haha
I don't know if this is in a DLC, but I wish they had made an alternate outfit for Hanzō where he didn't have his mask on.
Unfoetunately the only DLC outfits are for Nobunaga, Mitsuhide, and Noh.
Awesome video, my favorite sw is 2, but i'm enjoying this game so much, i might have to pick this one as my favorite!
Holy fuck i love this design
Me too. Wouldn't mind seeing a DW10 done like this.
Samurai Warriors 5 has lowest retail launch in Japan in series history..If ain't broken
Samurai Warriors 6: A Land United
Hideyoshi and Ieyasu will be the focus of the sequel as well as the various personalities that have been involved during their lifetimes i.e. the Sanada family, Ishida Mitsunari, Date Masamune, Shima Sakon, et al. The big question is this, will the Korean Campaign be included or forever excluded? After all, the Mt Hiei massacre has been a playable level in Samurai Warriors 5 and that level is the moment where Nobunaga embraced his inner demon
I would love if they continued the story in SW6.
@@ChrisGildart maybe this time, both Hideyoshi and Ieyasu will have a makeover to resemble their mature selves
An awesome well done in depth review! Best one I’ve seen of this game so far. Though I’m curious, would you do a Pros vs Cons review on the dynasty warriors movie?
I tried, but it got copyright claimed 3 times on different edits. So I had to shelve the video.
I know, Nobunaga focus and all, but to have a Samurai Warriors without the battle of Sekigahara and the siege of Osaka castle is just heresy.
It honestly wouldn't make sense in the context of the game. Plus the first Samurai Warriors didn't have Sekigahara either.
@@ChrisGildart Really? Been so much time since I played it that I honestly forgot about it.
Btw, didn't expect to get a reply by you Chris. Made my day!
They went the cell shaded route same as Gundam Musou 3, which I appreciate so much.
I love it
If your "PvC Mini" is ~ 22 minutes, I'm afraid to think about how long will the full review be. XD
You and me both. I don't want to know how many hours of scripting, recording, and editing it will take hahaha
@@ChrisGildart in any case, we'll be waiting for it, man. Thanks for your reviews and keep up the good work!
I got this for $30 new, and I'm having a blast. Easily one of the best since WO3.
How the hell does this game get away with the same shit DW6 pulled and still be considered great?
can’t believe it’s been out almost a year already. already feels completely forgotten
We need a sequel to SW5!
I'm a warriors fan but the only thing is I'm a low end gamer....
Soon I wish to have a better computer that can run mostly anything.
I know that feeling. My current PC can barely run my editing software at times. That's why I've stuck so hard to consoles. But I'm hoping that changes soon for the both of us.
I am getting this game asap.
Great review! Now that you mentioned kessen iii, another game of koei portrayed the Sengoku period of Japan as the center of Nobunaga and Mitsuhide, why won't you make a review of it? That game was so underrated, and I actually enjoyed it. Anyway, keep up the good work!
I've never actually finished a Kessen game, so it will be a whole before I review it. 😅
@@ChrisGildart Then I’ll recommend you give it a shot. Kessen 3 was a good game, although it was very different from the musou series, but very unique on its own way
Glad they nerfed the Hyper attack, and agreed with the difficulty on this game game just like Dynasty Warriors 5 and Samurai Warriors 2
It's a dam sight better than Dynasty Warriors 9 but it's way too short and needed more game modes. 😎👍
Great review! Sorry I was late, just wanted to play the demo first lol.

I know, I miss the English dubs. I don't know if they'd go the cheap route for dubbing after DW9's reception though.
@@ChrisGildart I can only hope we at least get the transcript idea for the next one. The lack of English dub is the only thing keeping me from getting Orochi 4 and DW 8.
Base DW8 and XL has English dub. It's only Empires that doesn't.
Something I didn't like and because it wasn't done again (or at least so far)
When you kill Yoshimoto there is the bit when you take his sword and Nobunaga changes to a sword user I thought that was cool but then they never use this again (or so far I'm half way through ch5).
I wouldn't want Nobunaga to get all the weapons but I'd of loved to see hell even Ieyasu go to Odachi as a sign of "aging" when you beat back the Takeda and take it from the fake Shingen
OR if (SPOILER) didn't happen for Kicho to get Asakura's Bow, also a very strange design for Asakura as they've always been made to be a tough military power is past SW games and Kessen Series and here he's thin pretty boy bow user to the point where Nagamasa seems more of a man.
I do also wish they made you go to Citadel mode as until the end of Ch4 I had Lvl1 buildings and everyone bar Nobunaga were all
The Legendary Queeb Noh is the best been a fan of hers since hell Warriors Orochi
Does No hit a stage of character development later on? I'm hitting chapter 3 and she still feels like a passenger that doesn't affect anything.
She's pretty robotic. A robot without emotions, then she smiles, then she dies. The evil queen was also a trope but at least more entertaining.
I would prefer No to be the seductive mistress of evil who wants to see Oda Nobunaga raise Hell and she would have a Snow White/Evil Queen dynamic with Oichi where No despises Oichi for being beautiful and kindhearted
the clones honestly hurt this game alot for me the glow ups for the cast is good but god damn
I personally didn't notice it too much playing through it.
Wait to the complete edition they always do it
9:21 that attack move kinda remind me of basara version of mitsunari
19:48
Bruh no way in Hell SW5 is a contender for best Musou game or even best SW5.
We'll probably get Samurai Warriors 5-2
Always wondered what the advantage was to switching weapons off a preferred weapon.
I know battlefield like Warriors Games (whether it's Dynasty Warriors or Samurai Warriors) there's a lot of troops litter the arena/screen since it's a hack and slash, 1 v 1000 type of game and you can guess that... if you don't have a good or a real powerful system, you are gonna suffer, unless if you dare to push through it, overlook it, and pray your system not to blow up... and when you have to tone down the graphics in terms of how many enemies there are on the screen, the battlefield feels... too open, almost feels... hollow.
i would continue, but i'm in the middle of work/crisis.
p.s. Great Video PvC, I enjoy it all since
Great review !
No Kunoichi !? That one hits hard …
Oh they made a in all ways possible worse version of a good character like kunoichi, they replaced her with the dumbest character ever Mitsuki
You can always turn the tutorials off. That's what I did.
@@ChrisGildart It has the option? Good to know I thought it was from the game itself, haven't bothered to check.
Do they ask if you want the tutorial? I may have missed that part.
@@GabdaRocur they don't. I've just gotten into the habit of checking the options before starting a game.
@@ChrisGildart I see, thanks for the comment love your reviews from Musou Games, takes me back to the old school Musous.
Yes, even worse than Samurai Warriors 3:
- Cut roster, yet cloned moveset.

I pre ordered after the demo and totally worth it. Just a question, it is Kenshin Joint Battle stage in Mitsuhide's path actually Kawanakajima?
This game is not even close to be in better than Samurai Warriors 1 and 2 and honestly nobunaga's ambition rise of power and kessen 3 did the story way better than this this was a big let down
