hey Luke, Just FYI, gas wood stove is designed to burn top down. So if you pack the chamber with sticks vertical just below the 2nd air holes, then start fire on top burning from top down, it will burn for 45-60min. I can cook a 3 course meal for 2 person and still have enough heat to make tea without needing to add wood during cooking. Using the top down burning and pack the chamber with enough wood to begin with is the key.
psy Amok absolutly.and im pretty sure that little try is for hexamine tabs not rubbing alcohol.fuel tabs are sometimes called something close to dry alcohol or something like that over seas.but the stove is nice.im ordering one friday.
Packing it worked MUCH better than just randomly tossed in sticks, started the fire with 3 little squares of cut-up Strike-a-Light sticks (just 3 Chicklet-size pieces, but I'll bet shredded would work too) on the top. Perfection. Also note, originally used randome, on the ground sticks which were conifers- burned VERY sooty. 2nd test = packed in maple+conifer+alder: much better (burned off most of the soot!) 3rd test will be oak slivers from the woodshed.
@@joespawldin7833 got mine for $21 delivered! And yes, the tray is for solid alcohol fuel tabs! light & cheap! I understand, though I have not tried yet, that wood pellets work well, too! (With the tray)!!

Mine came with an extra attachment. It came with a circle grill attachment. Side note: if you stack the twigs and sicks so that you have them stand on end, and jam pack them in and light it from the top, the fire will last about half an hour to 45 minutes.
Luke, I bought one of these Ohuhu stoves after seeing your review. I timed a TWO cup water boil test using alcohol, gel wax cotton ball and wood bits. The alcohol boil was around six minutes with no wind block, wood test was the fastest 4+ minutes and the gel wax was awful! Gel wax put off so much soot it was unhealthy to be around and it never boiled the water. It did heat to a near boil but I wouldn't dare drink the water due to the massive amount of soot. Alcohol was the cleanest burn followed by wood then the gel wax. This stove is a great little addition to my car camping kit. Thank you.
another great alternate fuel for these stoves is wood pellets like the ones for pellet stove space heaters, 10lbs for $4.

Great review. The alcohol burning will come in super handy if there's no dry wood and a few cubes don't weigh or cost much. Really enjoyed the detailed tutorial.

Great review!! Got one and it works great! Huge amount of heat and fits perfect in my pot. Feeding hole is an issue if using twigs. Tried with larger pieces like Swedish torch and lasts longer. Thanks Luke!

There is no negative to this stove; as you DO NOT keep feeding the stove. This stove is top down burn, and like most alcohol stoves you load it and forget it until the fuel source runs out. Example, load the stove with vertical wood sticks or wood pellets just below the secondary ports, light the top and forget it until the fuel source is consumed. You are looking for Gasification not the soot from a fire pit.
How do you load it with wood pellets? Wouldn't the wood fall through the holes in the tray?

Glad it got a thumbs-up from you, mine is being delivered as I write this! Combined with a 14cm Zebra pot (the stove nests inside the pot) this will be my go-to cookset when I go places I can have a wood fire!

You could use that little tray for solid fuel. Also if you put some chopped wood standing straight up like a Swedish fire torch, and stuff it full. It will burn for a long time.
Very happy with this stove, (bought the summer before last). A Trangia alcohol burner fits inside it if there are no twigs around. I am using 2 inch diameter cotton pads, soaked in candle wax as fire starters. On my last camping trip, I stuffed soaking wet branches, vertically- that were over 2 feet high, and it was just like a giant candle- looked really neat, and attracted a lot of attention.
Just got mine tonight, can't wait to try it out. It now comes with a grill cover also. I bought a Gas One brand for $20. Love your channel.

I have this stove, works great. I bought the Alpine Stowaway Pot 775ml from MSR. The stove fits in the pot perfectly so can be carried without additional footprint in your backpack.

Awesome review especially since you sited both pro's and con's... I totally agree with your comments about adding a hole to add wood or other materials to feed the fire with a pot on top, plus heftier pot holders, pot on the pot holder which would make this an awesome wood stove even with reasonable price increase... You just sold an Ohuhu stove, I do believe! I need a compact stove for my first winter camping trip and this definitely fits the wallet quite well.
Good review. I just received mine. Can't wait to try it out. Like you, I won't be running alcohol in it often. I may only do this if I desired to use it in the kitchen as an auxiliary/keep hot side burner.

I own one of these stoves and have used it extensively. Think Swedish fire log, cut small pieces of wood around the exterior and starter twigs in the middle. I use wood about 1/2" around the outside (diameter) and 2" long approx. don't cover your catalytic converter holes over. It lasts much longer and even burns long enough to make dish cleaning water and hot beverage afterwards. Hope this helps in you testing. Cheers!

Thank you for your review. I just purchased this stove with the bonus little grill $21 on Amazon. I bought it because I heard the pot rest could be used to hack the.MSR Windburner stove so I could use any pot not just their expensive Windburner pots. Jetboil offers an adaptor for their stove, but the hole is smaller making Windburner less efficient. The Ohuhu did the trick. Their pot holder fits better, the little grill was absolute good luck because if you use it on top of pot holder, it holds the pot/ pan even more stable. Should also use wider spread cannister stand if using Solo Windburner and a bit larger pot. Now to round out all my cooking options I just ordered the Trangia alcohol burner to drop into the Ohuhu if needed! I think that should work? I admit I didn’t do my homework enough when I bought The MSR Windburner as I really didn’t catch how expensive the particular special pots are, but with an additional $40 with above I believe I could cook in almost any condition 🔥 🔥🤔

Hey there luke thanks for the review on this stove I have been on the fence about buying it but after your review I just ordered it! I've watched I few test on TH-cam but for the most part the folks testing it did not do a very good job!
fill the stove to the holes with inch size twigs light it on the top and that's it for almost an hour. you don't need to keep feeding it
it also works fantastic with cat litter

valerie Potter pour the cat litter pellets up to the holes then use tinder on the top to get the pellets going normally burns for about an hour

John James i read the details as dryed alcohol,which is what they refer to as fuel tabs over there.not liquid acohol.thats not saying alcohol cant be used.but i would think it would be not worth the weight of the fuel and risk of spills.

Awesome looking stove and great price. I wouldn't cut a slot into the top piece, it may weaken it to the point that it won't hold a pot. Looking at the design, you can probably find that piece in the gas stove parts replacement area at Lowe's or Home Depot, looks similar...hey it's worth checking out

Okay I bought one of these and have used it for quite some time. It does work well but it does have one bad aspect. It gets hot beneath the stove. Hot enough that it burned through a chunk of Plywood. The thing to do is either put it on something that wont burn like a flat Rock or put it on a sheet of metal that is raised off anything burnable.
Lukes idea of modifying the Pot Support Ring is a good one that works well. I cut a section out of mine and it works just fine.
Try using an old floor tile!
Nice video. This is one of a few Chinese clones of the Silverfire Scout Stove(made in USA). I have two. It will fit inside a 775 ml MSA Alpine Stowaway pot. It also fits inside the Pathfinder 1800 ml bush pot...with room for food, etc. The Silverfire Scout has upgraded to a top ring with fixed pot supports. Similar versions can be found among the clones as well. Silverfire also has the mini dragon pot which is a double wall pot which captures ALL the heat from this stove and keeps it between the two walls making it much more efficient in cold weather. Cram it full, (think Sweedish fire Log(torch), light it from the top down, dont bother with the notch.
Awesome to know the real US brand! I bought a nameless clone, just because I found it new at a used store and figured out what it was. I'd prefer to support the original wharves possible, though, so I'll check out Silverfire.
This stove nests perfectly in an MSR Stowaway 775ml stainless steel pot. Too heavy for backpacking for me, but not bad for camping.

Mine holds my Heavy Cast Iron frying pan no prob. the alcohol dish great for a ash catcher or making a egg or a single cup of hot chocolate may be two , great review you can get a grill for it works fine

and the whole set fits nicely inside a MSR 775 ml Stowaway pot. You can even use the Ohuhu storage bag to hold everything!

I have one of these as my back up stove, if I run out of gas or alcohol.
Great too at busy campsites when everyone else has nabbed all the wood from the pile and left only the small scraps and twigs.

(7:52) You could just place the pot holder upside down (extending the legs first). You will have some space to feed the fire if needed. It will also hold a smaller pot this way.

That's a good point. I didn't think about that. But a feeding port would be very handy and since it isn't a very expensive stove I think it would probably be worth a try.

Greetings from Finland near the Russian border. I have watched a lot of your good videos on another channel before I got this channel active. I have a very similar cooker to yours. It works well. I made modifications to it and added a wind shield. Now it's also a multi-fuel cooker. I have a video of it, but I haven't gotten around to putting subtitles on it yet.
Great stove. The issue we have here in the mediterranean region is that outside summer, humidity is very high and wood does not dry well. I've been making fires since I was a young boy and a fire without smoke is sooo rare a sight here.
Luke, I have the gas one stove, same stove, I’ve found if you measure your twigs to all the same height and load the stove with the twigs standing up neatly ,packing them tightly you can boil 3 pots of water or around 38-40 oz of water without reloading the stove. Burning the stove from the top down makes it more efficient. Cutting in the side of the stove destroys the gasification effect and it will smoke like crazy.

I just had mine delivered today & bought it for £10 off eBay 😁 Definitely think chopping up some chunkier bits of wood as well as adding twigs would make it burn for longer although will look at your other video of you adding a twig feeder. I'm so looking forward to cooking something yummy in a lovely location somewhere but will test it in the garden at some point. Now what to cook 🤔

I used mine the other day , once I got the fire going I dropped in small chunks of charcoal that I got from a old camp fire , it worked very well . it smoke as much , just drop in a few chunks at a time , so if you are close to a old camp fire try it

There are quite a few of these stoves by different companies. I bought one of a different name that weighs 12.7oz. Same price. I received mine 2 days ago. I'm glad I received it before you uploaded this review and drove the price up. LOL! Yes, I would love to see how you modify this unit to receive the wood without having to remove the top portion. What's nice is the fact that if you are camping, and there is no wood available, you can fall back on the alcohol.
I've been to campgrounds that were wiped clean of any wood at all.

I now have an Ohuhu stove that nestles perfectly (even in the mesh storage sack) inside a MSR Alpine 775ml stowaway pot with the cover locked down, OMG thanks TH-cam!
Thanks for taking the time making the video. Have you tryed the "Ember Lite Stove:? I like it. It has the feed hole cut out in the side of the stove for feeding it while in use and not having to remove the pot you are cooking in.
