    Another one of those great shows that deserve more than one season so underrated.

    De niño mi padrino me regaló esta "película". El videoclub se lo vendió como "robocop 4" en VHS. Obvio, en el estuche decía Robocop 4. Y todavía (para que sea más creíble) en la intro, se tomaron el trabajo de hacer una animación: de la "R" salía el 4, el numero con la forma de silla invertida.
    Nunca caí en ese chantaje, habiendo visto la 3 y la 2 que tmbien la tenía en VHS, pude deducir por calidad de imagen y de producción que no se trataba de una película, pero tampoco imaginaba que sería una serie. Internet no existía,imposible averiguar.
    Recien hoy me doy cuenta que existió una serie y que esa "película" llamada RoboCop 4, era un episodio 2 en 1.
    Aun así, no importa, lo hicieron todo por hacer más feliz mi infancia!

      The societal issues were issues even back then. The thing most people fail to realise is that they don't matter... we are NUMBERS and that is the way it has to be for society to function. However, when you so many narcissists running around, Millennials and Zoomers who shirks life obligations in favour of having fun, sitting and playing video games, etc. the society you have today is what you get.
      Most people nowadays live in a fantasy world: Yes, we are all worker bees working for lucky few who struck gold. It's been like so for thousands of years, and it's going to stay that way. What will really frighten you is what life looks like when you get into your 60 and retirement and it is the 3 and 4 Cohort's of the Millennials and Zoomers and Alphas -- the really narcissistic generations -- that will run the show.

    Great show! It captured the cynical humor, camp, and some of the pathos of the original movie; but without the horrifying violence. And the acting fit the movie quite well. Bravo!

    • @brandonspain12345
      @brandonspain12345 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's probably because the show was written by the creators of the original movie and it perfectly captures the look and feel of the original film and it's grounded nature too. Obviously limited on the violence since it was made-for-90s-TV, but that's okay. I think it even ignores the two previous sequels which I'm okay with.

    I actually really enjoyed this show when I was younger, I watched it again in recent years and it does hold up for some of the later episodes. It had some great ideas and I didn't think the acting was bad, sure it could have used some violence but for what it was, it's certainly watchable and didn't crap all over the lore of Robocop like the 2014 movie did.

      This has really high production value for a TV show, the commercials, the locations/angles. Most TV shows are very formulaic, but they actually put a lot of thought into this.

    • @NDoraku
      @NDoraku 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      True. Nobody denies Verhoevens movie in 1987 was a masterpiece, but some fans forget the real creators of the character RoboCop/Murphy were Miner and Neumeier, not Verhoeven.
      Verhoeven was interested in making a kind of Jesus story about crucifiction and ressurection, he once said Alex Murphy was his Jesus. And being dutch he grew up in World War 2 and saw the Nazis (i am German) doing horrible things to his people, and Murhpys killer Clarence Boddicker should remind on Heinrich Himmler, thats what Verhoeven said.
      And thats why Boddicker wears the same glasses as Himmler did.
      But contrary to Miner and Neumeier, Verhoeven was never really interested in going deeper in Murphys character, and this series here did it very well!
      In no other movie or series Murhpys whole family got more attention as in this show. His wife/"widow", son and even parents. When you judge on screen time for example, the actress who played his wife has more screen time as any other actress who portrayed her, be it the one from RoboCop 1, 2 and 3, or fromt he Remake in 2014.
      And Murphys parents never played a role at all.
      So this show had something what no other production did. And i am sure Miner and Neumeier liked it.

    • @NDoraku
      @NDoraku 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@jacobstromburg5803 Yes + the ideas were imo damn good. As i wrote in the other comment, In no other movie or series Murhpys whole family got more attention as in this show. His wife/"widow", son and even parents. When you judge on screen time for example, the actress who played his wife has more screen time as any other actress who portrayed her, be it the one from RoboCop 1, 2 and 3, or fromt he Remake in 2014.
      And Murphys parents never played a role at all.
      And the stories around them are deep. For example when is father finds out Robo is his son Alex. Or when two criminals kidnap his wife to blackmail him. His family was always his weakest and most emotional spot, and if i was a criminal and wanted to get him, his family is the way to hurt him most (PS: This is what they did in the 2014 Remake in the end when the bad guy takes his wife and son close to him as his own protection, but this was in 2014, this show was 1994).
      The writers of this show understood this. In "Heartbreakers" Murphy did something what he never did before or after, it was never shown again -> Override a Directive.
      When he tries to steal a part of the weapon, directive 3 kicks in, "Uphold the Law". Then he playbacks the scene when his wife gets brutally kidnapped to override directive 3 with 2, "Protect the Innocent".
      Maybe i am wrong...but knowing all RoboCop movies and other productions well, i cant remember him doing that anywhere else...at least not in productions with real actors, maybe he did in in a Cartoon but i woul guess no.
      This just underlines the creators of this show knew what they were doing...great ideas, some very emotional moments especially with Murphys family, but also with the girl Gadget and when Lisa Madigan gets paralized, etc.
      You can agree or disagree: When judging about violence, action and revenge + the majestic theme from Basil Poledouris, then the 1987 movie is untouchable.
      When judging about the family side of Murphy/Robo, there is nothing who matches this show. And i feel sad to this day there was no 2nd season. There was much potential and possible ideas, of course like rekindling Murphys connection to his family (wife, son and parents).
      But the biggest problem was simple: The die hard Robo fans compared it 1-1 with Verhoevens movie, and of course this doesnt work because of severeal and obvious reasons.
      One thing: Yes, RoboCop was always able to use deadly force, and the Clarence Boddicker gang only understood deadly force. But first and foremost Murphy was a Cop. And a Cop would never just shot any little 3 cent thief in pieces...look for example the guys in the opening of RoboCop 2. Yes they were thiefs and shot at Robo, but those guys didnt deserve to get killed, arrested sure, but not killed.
      You know as much a like and respect Verhoeven, and being a German i understand through history how horrible his childhood in the Netherlands was, when he witnessed first hand what the Nazis did to the dutch people, but i always had a problem when he said "Alex Murphy is like Jesus. You cant have a resurrection without a crucification"...because Jesus had no family except his mother Maria. He had no wife and son.
      So you cant compare the two one on one.
      Murphy was like a reborn Jesus but contrary to him he still loved his wife and son, and they had so much grief because of his fate.
      And this was the thing the producers of this show understood, + dont forget Robo was created by Miner and Neumeier, and they were involved in the show.
      PS: And when you read critics, most of them praise Richard Edens performance as Robo, so do i! He and Peter Weller were BY FAR the two best RoboCop actors, they moved better then Robert John Burke and not just that, they brought real emotions on the screen (i cant compare the 2014 movie with it since this Robo could run and jump).

    I remember watching this show when it came on and I was surprised that they came up with a live action t.v. series as the only t.v. shows I remember that had to do with Robocop was the cartoons they did on him but still the live action t.v. show was great too as with one episode where Robocop's human parents found out they're son was still alive and in another episode had to do with a priest who hated Robocop and in that same episode it was discovered that there was a prototype of Robo's helmet and his gun that someone from O.C.P. used to kill said priest and framed him in the process and there was another episode where it was revealed that Murphy had another partner before the one he was partnered with in the show who also apparently died but was brought back almost the same way as Murphy was but instead of cybernetic replacements the guy wore some kind of suit and he had a memory wipe like what happened to Murphy until Robo confronted him and started quoting some rules the guy always said and it caused him to remember and he saw Robocop asking 'Jesus Murph what did they do to Us' and in another episode Murphy became friends with a family that helped him and the old man who gave the father a job at O.C.P. and the son needed a lung transplant and in another episode the kid got it but the lungs were stolen by some thugs who were hired by a rich criminal who said he deserved those lungs and I remember in that same episode where Robocop was interogating the crooks when his partner came in and said the kids condition was getting worse and Murphy punched a concrete pillar scaring her and she told the crooks that she didn't like it when he gets like this and she wouldn't be able to stop him if they didn't tell her and Robo what they wanted to hear now those were some interesting episodes as far as I can remember about the show.

      Hebrews 12:25 See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven,:/Inspiration+To reject the truths taught in God's Word, spoken by his prophets and apostles and by Jesus Christ his Son, is a grave offense. In the days when Hebrews was written, there were still true prophets in the Church, speaking from God. Today, we have his written Word as our "prophet." If a preacher preaches truly according to the Book, we are in a grave sin if we reject it. /Prayer+ Help me, O Lord, to discern when your Word is being taught correctly and when it is not. Teach me to embrace your truths and love them. Help me to walk in them and meditate on them. Let me not sin in rejecting the plain teachings of the Bible, in Jesus Christ name forever and ever Amen

    Its a shame this show was hobbled by the restrictions of its time.
    Today, Netflix would do a great job (potentially) of putting together a watchable season. One faithful to the original movie.
    The writing was severely lacking in understanding of the characters as well. Most are carbon copies of a different character and all of Murphys emotional breakthroughs that happened in the movie are discarded.
    He starts episode 1 talking like a robot again.
    Great idea, the execution was motivated by money instead of love. Real shame.
