    New home owner with a gas furnace. Seen the continuous red blinking light, thought it was a problem. I seen in the beginning of your video that it's supposed to blink slow then blink fast when heat is on. I almost paid addcox 100 for service call. Thank you !!

      I had the exact same question that he answered at the beginning of this video! Originally , it was blinking 3 lights but after cleaning the vents , and the furnace worked , I thought I still had a problem because it was continuously blinking red. So, that's normal and working, I guess! I was expecting it to not light up at all. anymore .

      They want you to call repair man not to fix it yourself. that's how they make money. The manufacture sell you a unit then the repairman installs or fixes it. Everyone makes money but you.

    I'm getting the pressure sensor error on my Trane XB80, but I've tested the switch with a multimeter and it is functioning properly (conpleting the circuit when the inducer motor kicks on), which not only tells me the switch itself is working, but also that there is no blockage in the vent pipe.
    What else might cause this error?

  • @fengtaowang5348
    @fengtaowang5348 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I really enjoy and learn so much from your channel. You are a great tutor!
    My Trane XE80 gave 5 flash code tonight, and the code did not change even after the flame rod was carefully cleaned. I jumped W and R at the thermostat, and the inducer fan ran for 3 seconds and then the blower fan came and stayed on. That was all the furnace gave. I checked other components (pressure switch, roll-out limit, high-temp limit, and ignitor) and they seemed to be alright. If the gas valve was stuck open, should I smell gas when the inducer fan was running? Should I manually switch off the gas valve and try it again? if the code persists, does it mean that I have a bad board? Your professional input would be greatly appreciated.

    • @fengtaowang5348

      An update: problem solved by tighten the ground screw. so the problem were both dirty flame rod and loose ground. The board was fine. I still don't know why the error code was 5 flashing.

    • @grayfurnaceman
      @grayfurnaceman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The light should blink slowly indicating power but no call for cool. It will be blinking fast when there is a call for heat. The noise could be a failure of the fan motor or the blower itself. I am assuming the outdoor unit works normally.

    I have never encountered this before either. Have found out on some forums that this 5 code is more or less a catch all for things (glitches ?) that the board can't read. The solution, if the code continues is to replace the board. Of course all the other components of the furnace need to be checked and OK'd for function. Then if the code keeps showing up, replace the board. The code on this furnace in question would show whether the gas valve was on open or off at the valve knob. The things I read said to replace the board. The people who asked about this, did replace the board, and they said that took care of the problem.

      Mine did this, new board brought it back to life. Now, two years later, I get a 4 blink error and fan motor and module are new won't start, they were on AC, but switch to Heat and they wont' come on. I replaced the fan board and that allows the system to start up to high temp (4 blinks).....supposedly the white rogers 50A51 507 is replaced by trane kit 09370.

    Hi GFM... Well Done & Informative! This might be a duplicate, I didn't realize I was on my wifes account earlier.
    We have 5 blinks on XE90, White Rodgers #50A50-474, indicates "Flame Sensed with Gas Valve Off". Symptoms are... After a power cycle... will show slow blink, then fast blink when heat is called, furnace cycles, fires and runs fine. Once the call for heat ends, the flame stops, and the fan keeps running indefinitely, then the 5 blink error appears... If called for heat again... no joy, it just stays with the 5 blinks and the fan running until the unit is power cycled again. Same thing over and over. We have a new flame sensor installed. And I've checked the continuity on the high limit / fused link circuit as closed. Do you have any additional troubleshooting suggestions before replacing the control board? Of course any help is greatly appreciated.
    PS - this was a used furnace (from a friend), who indicated it worked fine. I did have an hvac crew install it a few months ago along with an AC unit, but the system was never put into use until now. Could a misconfiguration of thermostat wiring cause this problem? The HVAC crew did wiring to the AC unit and furnace, and then ran a 6 wire cable to where the normal thermostat will ultimately be located (however there is no thermostat there). All I did was wire in a basic heat only thermostat on white & red terminals.

      The one other issue you may have is reversed polarity or a bad ground. Usually the unit will not operate with reversed polarity, but it could be the problem.

    Hi There. Just had the Pressure Switch replaced. I remember things working in a different order. I used to have the vent fan stay on after the furnace and blower turned off ( I could swear it!), but now it seems I have regular blink, followed by vent fan turning on, then fast blink, heat turns on then eventually blower runs and it stays at that fast blink until the heat turns off, vent fan turns off, then blower remains for a minute and turns off, now back to slow blink. Does this sound right? Was I crazy thinking it was the vent fan that used to stay on for a minute after the cycle and not the blower?

      If your furnace is located in a laundry room, you are drawing chemicals from the washing machine into the flame. That will do it. Also, do not be aggressive with the sandpaper.

    have a trane, american standard freedom 80 two stage, model #AUD2B080A9362AB. Keep getting 2 blink code. Cleaned the flame sensor, same issue, replaced it with a new one, same issue. After a reset it usually turns on and gives heat for a little while, anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours, then it starts blowing cool air and the temps start to drop in the house. I've watched as it cycles on before throwing the 2 blink code. After a reset, when the call for heat kicks in it give the normal rapid blink, It gets ignition, the flames light up, then it shuts down and restarts this cycle about a total of 10 times before, there have been a couple of times when i hear the clicks right before the burners flame kicks in but they don't actually flame up. after this cycle of about 10 tries it then begins to blink twice again. Any ideas? It does have a new air filter, replaced about 2 months ago.

    • @grayfurnaceman
      @grayfurnaceman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would first try a shutdown and reboot. If you still have a fast blink that has no code, your board may have failed. The fast blink indicates a call for heat. This is applicable to furnaces made in the last 30 years. If your furnace is older, you may have ignition failure. If so, you can send me the model # of the control and I may be able to help.

    I came to find out how to get the codes out of this thing. I've got no light at all, yet the furnace comes on and the gas shuts off when it reaches temp, but the fan won't shut off. Even if I turn the thermostat down and switch it off at the thermostat. So I make sure the gas is off and it's cooled a bit and disconnect power to make it stop. I'm trying to figure out if it's the controller, I've already tried to mess with the dip switches which control the time delay on the fan but, no. I'm thinking the controller is bad, as I get no flashing lights at all, or a sensor that is to confirm the temp has cooled enough to shut off the fan is not working. I'm an electrician, not an HVAC guy, but this is simple. I just need to know if the LED light is supposed to be blinking all the time or what? I've got nothing. How do I get the codes out of this thing? How hard is it to replace just the board in the unit? I've found the boards for sale, cheaper than the whole unit. I don't want to buy used. Thanks

    • @grayfurnaceman
      @grayfurnaceman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First, be sure the fan switch is in the auto position.
      The led should blink slowly if there is power. It should blink fast if there is a call for heat. If the fan is the only problem, you could have the fan relay stuck on. For most, that means a new board. I have never come across an led not working when the furnace runs normally. I suppose it could have just failed.

    I have no light at all. Power is good to furnace, however, tank is at 10%. Propane is ordered. Could it be because of low tank?

    • @grayfurnaceman

      The rapid flashes indicates normal operation. If the flame does not come on, that indicates no gas available or gas valve failure. First, be sure you have gas (see if other gas appliances operate).

    My Trane furnace is sending a code 9 which according to the list is "bad ground in igniter circuit. ?? I have looked at everything,, new igniter, cleaned flame sensor, new pressure switch, tested thermostat, put dielectric on contacts, took volt readings to ground and red on the board.. 24 to 28 volts, Low side voltage on transformer is 24V. I am at my wits end as to why this furnace sometimes does not ignite ,, shuts down and the fan continues to run forever with code 9 blinking. Turn the furnace off and on again and it usually does start up and ignite. It may run normal for a couple cycles but then it goes right back to code 9,, fan on and no heat! Arahhhhhhhhhhhhhhgh!!!!! What the heck is going on? Bad gas valve? Bad board? Bad fan relay switch? Furnace is model TUX080C942C3
