I would have dumped all 600,000 coins back where they were found and said “You go get it yourself” you don’t sit idle for 10 years watching someone recover it and say nothing until the jobs done
@@callumsharp7976why do you and even the people in this video call it “ stolen” gold? It’s CONQUERED gold. There’s a big difference. I GUARANTEE all of South America and Central America would have happily conquered the gold from each other if they were capable of it. Just because Europeans were the best at conquering different people, it’s looked at as some sort of “crime.” That’s how the world works, and has worked since the dawn of man. If you have an abundance of wealth or resources, it’s pointless if you can’t protect it. End of story.

Why report a treasure when governments are just going to confiscate it? At a minimum, a 10% finders fee and expenses that are recorded should be paid to the finder. This would encouraged treasure hunters to report thier finds. This is why no one trusts governments. They treat us like criminals after we find something that was lost for hundreds of years.
I like the idea, but honestly I think the finders should be entitled to 75% under the laws of salvage. And give the other 25% to the country it originally belonged to.
There are 48 nuclear weapons and 11 reactors at the bottom of sea inside sunken submarines, thankfully the majority were sunk in seep waters but its just a matter of time before someone find a a way to recoup them.
I can’t stand that woman… Do not commercialize it? That’s how it got there! Yeah, let’s save it for history, let it consumed by the Ocean. Because that’s what the ocean does. In time everything will be consumed. Just look at the titanic. Collapsing, disintegrating, and soon it will be gone forever. Impossible to uncover. History lost! Commercialization, treasure hunting and history of loss shipping is not separate, but one.

Spain didn't want the ship as it sat there for 250 years and only swooped in after someone else did all the work. I remember this episode of "Treasure Quest" on the Discovery Channel back in the day.
If a car breaks down by the side of the road and it's abandoned for 100 years with money inside. Anyone can take the money or salvage the vehicle. Somehow it a boat sinks it becomes some kind of weird monument. It doesn't make sense
If you want your heritage to be preserved in history at least pay for the recovery that returned your sacred history..lost and found ? You seem to think the history has a owner..
Just give me one good wreck, and I'd be set for life. Can't blame people for going after "free" gold. There will always be people looking to make an easy life for themselves, and, let's be honest, it beats office work for a living. Anyone who says otherwise is either a hypocrite, or has no ambition at all. If I knew where to look, the old trade routes, the ocean current's and the wind direction at the time, I would be the first one out there. I think that people also generally tend to overlook looking around Madagascar for old wrecks. That's where pirates went once Port Royale was out of the picture. If I were looking at the ocean floor now, I would say "Don't look for the wreck itself, look for evidence of the wreck coming through this area", by which I mean look for signs like fish, who gather around the wrecks, look for a trail in the ocean floor that could show that a wreck is near by, look for debris from the wreck itself. Don't waste time looking for the wreck directly, unless you know that it's there as a matter of absolute fact. If you overlook the other obvious signs, you could sail right past the wreck without ever knowing that it was there. if that collection was worth $5,000 per item, he had several thousand items, and he sold the lot for $10M, then I'd say that he let it go cheap. I wouldn't call it "Treasure Hunting" Per Se. I would call it "Treasure Retrieval". The hunt ends when you find it. The rest starts when you try to recover it. Don't forget though, that a lot of wrecks would have disintegrated by now, because they were made from wood. The Salt content, and microbial life forms found in the Sea, would have eaten them away by now. That said though, the traces of their cargo, depending on what cargo those ships were carrying, should still be there. 4008 Meters isn't deeper than the Mariana Trench, so to say that we can go anywhere is a bit of a stretch. As far as Unesco etc are concerned, it has nothing to do with them really. The vessel didn't sink in their waters. It comes down to, ultimately, what the Government want to do. You've got no chance of treasure seekers "Leaving thing's be". If someone is determined enough, they will go after it if they know it's there. The question you have to ask is: Would you rather a licensed operator go after the treasure, or would you rather it be taken, without permission, by a pirate organisation? Because that's what will happen, if you look at the situation realistically. Unesco are dreaming. That clause only works in an ideal world, and we don't live in an ideal world. Countries "might" subscribe to Unesco's rather archaic regulations, but modern day "Privateers" won't care one way or the other about what Unesco says, so Unesco's rules and regulations end up doing more harm than good, as regards the recoverable cargo. Not everyone subscribes to "Ethical Principles". It's time that Unesco starts living in the real world, instead of the idealistic one that they think we live in.
And how do you protect history that is on the bottom of the ocean and then compare that to history placed in museums where the people can actually participate with it? Dumb
What UNESCO is basically saying "Leave it there until WE are able to figure out how to get it out properly so our board members and ceos can get fat bonuses. That lady reeks of disingenuous.
What "Heritage" is that lady whackadoodle talking about? Lady, it's gold and silver coins and bars. We'll be careful with the pots and cannons... Chill out.
After somthing wrecks in the ocean it belongs to the ocean and at most you should have a limited time to declare ownership id say atmost 10 years if by that time if the owner Gov or Private andhasn't done anything to successfully retrieve it themselves it belongs to the ocean especially 100s and thousands of years the ownership should belong to the ocean and only pass on to the finder of any of it

What value is a rotting ship to people that will never see it other than maybe a film of it?
At least it will be my film
"Probably billions?" The San Jose alone is worth 20 billion.

It is such BS, these countries don't give 2 traps to find these treasures but once someone else does then they want to place a claim. Wrong!

use the money to save the ocean
