    Do we need to have a linking sentence at the end of each body paragraph or can we just end it like that?

    • @jeddle
      @jeddle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the interests of time, I would NOT include link sentences in comprehension tasks.

    This was incredibly useful but i would prefer if there were more examples on the actual ideas that could have been explored in those practices. Anyone here for hsc 2021?

  • @manv123
    @manv123 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Within some sample responses, students didn't follow up a technique with a quote but rather used the technique and quote as individual examples to explain their effect. Would this be considered wrong? Should it have been technique of an example instead?

    • @jeddle
      @jeddle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as the technique in some way relates to the quote used then that is fine!

    So for a compare question with two texts do you do two points but only compare on one of the points?

    awesome video!! I have a question: how would 8 markers differ in terms of structure? Would I have to include more analysis or a longer intro or add another body?

    • @jeddle
      @jeddle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are no 8 markers as far as I'm aware! Last year, there were only 3, 4 and 5 markers so focus on nailing the 5-7 range for the mini-essays!

    If a comparison question that is 7-8 marks asks about a text you have already analysed in a prior question (for say, 3 marks), can you use the same techniques you already mentioned?

    • @jeddle
      @jeddle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, but change how you explain them in relation to the new question, and try and use one fresh bit of evidence for each text (if you can).

    What is your opinion on starting the short answer in reverse order, getting the longer responses out of the way first?

    • @jeddle
      @jeddle  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could work, although if the first question is 3 or 4 marks, that often is a good way to ease yourself into the exam. I can’t see doing the 6-7 markers first being too disadvantageous though, as long as you still plan your time wisely!

    How do I add more depth to my arguments in my essays?

    • @jeddle
      @jeddle  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      By being ultra specific about what you discuss i.e. what exactly is it about the technique/quote you've used that produces the effect; what specific contextual features have impacted the meaning of the text (not just 'post-war' kind of language but actual events that may be relevant); what exactly is it about the FORM of the text that is important for the responder (not just that the text is, for example, a drama, but that as part of the dramatic form, soliloquies are used to humanise the character's internal angst etc.)

    Hi, may I know what should be the structure for a 5 marks question?

    • @jeddle
      @jeddle  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would treat this as a shorter 6/7 marker.
      Intro (1 sentence)
      Body 1: Topic sentence + 2 sentences of analysis (instead of 3)
      Body 2: Topic sentence + 2 sentences of analysis (instead of 3)
      Conclusion (1 sentence)

    • @patriciawilson7883

      Honestly the short answers first.

    • @jeddle
      @jeddle  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Definitely do NOT do the essay first. Use the 10 minutes reading time to read the comprehension questions (first) and then analyse the different texts. When writing time begins, start answering the READING TASK, and after approx 45 minutes, move to the Essay.
