  • I had a great idea to go snorkelling at carbs bay. When I arrived there were people swimming and seals in the water. I tried to keep as far away from the seals as possible but still managed to see them popping up for air around me.

Hi I just wanted to mention there was a WhatsApp vid doing the rounds here in SA of a seal actually ATTACKING 2 people on a Cape beach !! It was quite shocking. I also wouldn't want to swim if there were seals around as they are the main "food" of sharks in our warm SAfrican waters. Similarly, when I see you snorkelling etc at dusk or in murky water - I almost shudder, as these are also prime attack conditions. I love your underwater vids - so colourful and interesting 🦋

I’ve watched seals from apartments I’ve stayed at on carbis bay they never get that close to swimmers they always seem quite far out, I have thought they look like they are eating something sometimes but can never zoom in on them well enough but I have seem a lot of crushed up crabs washed up on the beach in the morning when I’ve been for a walk down the beach and wondered they are the seals left overs?

Is it possible to swim from Carbis to Porthminster when the tide is low? Seems that at high tide, it could be dangerous because the waves could push you towards the rocks.
