EURO NYMPHING a Riffle

  • A quick video on how I approached a Central, PA riffle on a late October day.
    Euro Nymphing when the water is shallow and clear means you need to stay below the fish and make upstream casts so you can fish back to you. If you use this approach anytime the water is low-whether it is a riffle, pocket water, or a smooth glide, I'm sure you will find more trout in your net.
    The fly used was a size 16 natural Walt's worm with a copper bead.
    Hope you enjoy and pick up a few tips.
    Tight lines!
    Cory

    Caught my first wild brown on my euro setup yesterday! Lost one too, I was excited that I got 2 to take me offering on a chilly day. Thank you so much for all the tips and techniques that helped me catch that fish on my first day euro nymphing!

    Nice work Cory working that riffle! Positioning yourself in the right spot to make that upstream and across cast without blowing out the run proved to be the key to success! Adjusting to stream conditions is vital and can change day to day ! Reading the water as you explain is is so important for putting fish in the net ! We’ll done buddy!

    I love your videos, I’ve learned more in the last week from you than any other source. 2 questions: Varying water depths, do you ever extend your tippet while fishing or do you just put sighter into water? Also would you recommend a euro line. Thanks for all the information you provided me!

    • @OldDominionTroutBum
      @OldDominionTroutBum  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, Brett! I do extend my sighter into the water all of the time. You can do it if you use a micro leader (4x or below). That's one of the advantages of using a micro leader-you can have a shorter tippet and dunk it when necessary. If you haven't seen my micro leader video, you can check it out here:
      th-cam.com/video/_LsHADwel28/w-d-xo.html
      The euro line I like the best is Airflo.
      Hope this helps.

  • @tonysobina8390
    @tonysobina8390 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video, Cory! I like the upstream approach in low clear water..Will you float the sighter as well, and wondering what length of tippet you will go to in water that has a lot less depth? Your videos are excellant!

    • @OldDominionTroutBum
      @OldDominionTroutBum  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, Tony! I do float a sighter-but do it more so in deeper water. When I'm in shallow, quicker water like this, I like the approach I was doing here. I have about 3ft to my bottom fly. The average depth was about 1.5ft.
      Going 1.5x-2x the depth when you are casting directly upstream is helpful because of the severe angle coming back to you. Hope this helps.
