Good built in mouse guard there. No bricks or rocks to hold the lid down. Insulated roof to keep the bees cooler. Insulated sides, man all those girls need now is pin up of some cute drone.LOL
I have 8 of these hives, and three double nucs. I am very pleased with them. You can use wooden supers on them, but I found doing so increased both SHB and wax moth infestation in my weaker hives. I haven't added DE to the bottom tray yet, but I was thinking a bit of a thicker layer may be best. Let the beetles and mites really have to swim through all that sharp glass! I'm planning on using the deep body boxes as my supers this year to try to avoid SHB more. That is going to be heavy! I'll let you know how that works for me. Also wanted to point out that I am located just south of Auburn Alabama, so my weather is just like your's. The girls did fine in the heat of summer last year, despite what many more experienced bee keepers thought.
Hey that is great. Thanks for checking in. I have been impressed so far. I added a wooden super and have ordered some of the Apimaye mediums. They were on backorder but should be here soon. So far the bees seem perfectly happy in the hive.
I had to laugh at some of the comments on your post in the Apimaye group on FB. People giving general beekeeping advice, which isn't at all what you needed, you had specific questions on the Apimaye. At least it's a helpful group! I love my Apimayes. I just wish they had some other options, 8 frames, an Apimaye technology box for Flow Frames, etc. I may very well try one of the 7 frame, or the Queen Defender.
No doubt lol. I am just going to leave the mouse guard on there. Haven’t really seen much evidence that people remove them. As far as I can tell the bees are thriving in the Apimaye. Maybe will get some more as funds allow but my bees are multiplying so fast I am struggling to keep up with equipment!
Seems like a really nice hive. Would be great for a backyard beekeeper. Not really the best option commercially of course. I may get one for my back yard to try as well. Thanks for the video.
Yes definitely not something most can afford to but a bunch of but would like to get my backyard hives in them just for fun. They also look better than my multicolored hives🙂
I think you should say how much these cost relative to the cost of wooden nucs. Dollars and cents are always a first considertion in any decision to buy a new product. Other than that, these APIMAYEs are sturdy and would be easier to clean and probably last longer than wooden nucs.
Yes they are more expensive for sure. There is no way I could afford a bunch of them. Would like to have my backyard bees in them though eventually. Total of about 5 or 6 hives apimaye-usa.com/
Bruce, that is 🐝tiful.. What size entrance holes?.. Only the girls are going to judge and let us know. I am sure they are going to Propolise those top entrance holes.. Keep them open just for testing.. Keep us updated... Good luck
Joseph Mmbi not sure on the size of the holes but plenty big enough for bees to get in and out. I might be able to unscrew the entrance guard and remove but not sure if I should. I need to talk to someone that has these hives and see what they recommend. As for now the bees are happy and working hard.
The DE dehydrates the insects by sucking out their natural oils and fats. The DE containes microscopic sharp edges that cut into the bodies speeding up the dehydration process.
Yes pricey but will be a fun experiment. May get a few of them as I can depending on how I like it but I imagine most of my hives will still be in wood boxes.
That is a nice hive. I did the same thing with the insurance while transferring bees last week. After I had all the frames in I realized I still had it closed.
I have a bottom board installed on one of my regular hive on purpuse to collect pollen, I love it but if you don't collect pollen its better to remove the entrance to let the bees go in easer, the reducer really slow down the bees especially if is a strong family. Good luck!
We love ours so far! Haha that’s what beefing is about getting more money to buy more new stuff right??😂😂 looking forward to watching more videos to see how you like it!!
Yes that’s how it seems. The more I make the more I grow and try new things! One of these days maybe I will slow down the growth and start using the money to supplement my income.
Hi not sure if you have seen polystyrene boxs? Australian honeybee uses them, I have 2 of them the bees work all year where wooden box very slow. www.australianhoneybee.com.au/polystyrene-bee-hives from Denmark so good in snow or heat.
Faye Keller, if you will go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy one pice of plastic Conor Bead that’s used to finish an outside Conner of Sheetrock or Dry Wall it’s about $2.00 and it has little holes like screen and you cut it to length and staple it in the entrance. Take a pair of scissors and cut a flap the size of opening that you want for the entrance. Search on You Tube and you can find a video on it. I think Yappy the Bee man has a video on it. It’s very cheap and very effective.
Thanks for the input. Sounds like a good idea. When I did the cutout of Survivor bees with Rusty a few weeks back he used corner bead to block the entrance for transport. It worked like a charm.
Yeah it kind of does, a plastic penthouse lol! I will tell you though that so far the bees seem to be thriving in it! It is just a fun thing for me. I could never afford to get very many of these.
These hives are wrong on so many levels. One is just more plastic made from crude oil. With more states trying to minimize plastic use I wouldn't buy one or endorse them. No offense Bruce.
Good built in mouse guard there. No bricks or rocks to hold the lid down. Insulated roof to keep the bees cooler. Insulated sides, man all those girls need now is pin up of some cute drone.LOL
Yes I think it seems like a well-built product. All kinds of bells and whistles. Will b fun to see how they do.

I love it. Looking into getting one here in NC. Thanks Bruce Bruce!
Thanks for checking in!

you make great videos ... Please continue
Thank you
I've got 4, nice hives.
Yes they are. Thanks for watching and for checking in!
Seems like a really nice hive. Would be great for a backyard beekeeper. Not really the best option commercially of course. I may get one for my back yard to try as well. Thanks for the video.

I like them, Seem to be good for winter like up here in wisconsin
Good to know. Thanks!
looks well built
Seems to be. Looks like they thought of everything.
Years ago I ended up with a box that looks a lot like this. The corner broke and... it made a real nice fire.
Hmm. Ok! Will see how this one works. Maybe it won’t be that flimsy.
Thanks for the video. If you don't want to feed is it OK to take the feeders out and just use the lid?
It would be ok except if you do that it will create space and the bees will fill it up with comb. Could turn into quite a mess!

Video was great
Thanks so much for your kind words!
Now that's a cool hive.
Yes I am excited about it! The bees seem to be doing well so far!
So not trying to bee negative but if AFB comes around do you have to burn this plastic hive ?
Yes I guess I probably would but as far as I know I have never had an issue with AFB
No because it’s plastic and non porous u can sanitize everything.
How would you use oxalic acid with this hive?
Not sure. That is something I will have to figure out or I will have to use another method.
I used oxalic vaporizer in my hive no problem
It doesn’t melt the plastic?
It shows where the heat hits it but no major melting
Very nice hi tech hive Bruce. Very nice video as well showing how to use it. Enjoyed
Yes it is nice. I will be fun to use it and see how it works out. Thanks for the kind words and thanks for checking in!
That looks cool. Does anyone have experience with them in a northern climate. I’m in Minnesota so winter is always a tough time for us beekeepers.
I live in vt got my first one last year the bees came out of winter very strong
Sounds like Levi has some good feedback for you
How does D.E. Kill the pests??
The DE dehydrates the insects by sucking out their natural oils and fats. The DE containes microscopic sharp edges that cut into the bodies speeding up the dehydration process.
Thanks for the input!
See what William Dobrolet said. Good explanation
It seems everyone that has one likes them a lot. Just a price issue. Keep us posted.
Wayne's Honeybees I love mine!
Yes pricey but will be a fun experiment. May get a few of them as I can depending on how I like it but I imagine most of my hives will still be in wood boxes.
@@brucesbees My wife said I could buy one, but being my 2nd year I need boxes, frames, and frames with comb. Maybe next year.
That is a nice hive. I did the same thing with the insurance while transferring bees last week. After I had all the frames in I realized I still had it closed.
Yes it would be easy to do. Especially if not used to using these hives. I’m sure the bees adopted quickly.
I have a bottom board installed on one of my regular hive on purpuse to collect pollen, I love it but if you don't collect pollen its better to remove the entrance to let the bees go in easer, the reducer really slow down the bees especially if is a strong family. Good luck!
Thanks for the comment. Not sure how to remove the entrance. Do you just unscrew it? Seems like the bees are managing it fine so far.
Bruce, I certainly hope they do great in there! Can’t you use your wood supers on it?
Yes I believe so. May have to do that. The medium supers were on back order last night when I checked.
I us wooden box's no problem
We love ours so far! Haha that’s what beefing is about getting more money to buy more new stuff right??😂😂 looking forward to watching more videos to see how you like it!!

Looking to save my money for those hives!!
Yes they are pricey!
price is high but no rot
How much did that thing set you back
Jimmy Japa it’s around 280
$285 without frames like I ordered it. Will take awhile if I want to get more.
I hope you love it as much as I love the two I have!
I hope so too. Thanks.
How much do they weigh?
You know I didn’t weigh it but it is pretty heavy. Also heavy duty. Shipping was free though.
Hi not sure if you have seen polystyrene boxs? Australian honeybee uses them, I have 2 of them the bees work all year where wooden box very slow. www.australianhoneybee.com.au/polystyrene-bee-hives from Denmark so good in snow or heat.
Wow ok! Thanks for sharing!
Lucky your not in Michigan illegal to mow your grass
Yes. It sound like the governor up there has gone crazy.
Big protest at the Capitol building tomorrow going to shut it down for the day
We live in crazy times for sure!
I lost another hive think it is due to field mice and wasps! My entrance reducers have not arrived..but soon!

LET ME KNOW HOW IT WORKS OUT FOR YOU,,, THANKS MUCH
Will do. I plan to post some videos along the way about how it is working out.
Looks like a plastic apartment.
Yeah it kind of does, a plastic penthouse lol! I will tell you though that so far the bees seem to be thriving in it! It is just a fun thing for me. I could never afford to get very many of these.
In ten thousand years it will still be there, we on the other hand won’t even be a memory.
Could be right but will it still have bees in it lol?! I gotta figure out how to use your vaporizer in it to treat for mites!
just put an extension on the vaporizer and go thru the front entrance
These hives are wrong on so many levels. One is just more plastic made from crude oil. With more states trying to minimize plastic use I wouldn't buy one or endorse them. No offense Bruce.
Ok you are entitled to your opinion. I am not at all opposed to plastic, nor am I offended by your comment. Thanks for checking in.
