Luke is the one that has more of the harder riffs and yet... "I have the same run... Well not the same... Harmonized then?" "Yep." "Yeah I'm harmonized." hahaha
Dude, I don't know about you, but after getting that intro riff, I think it's the best feeling I've ever gotten from learning anything on guitar so far. lol
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this in the comments yet, but if you don't have a hairband on hand or don't feel like sliding one up and down, another way you can dampen the strings for that opening tapping riff is to lay your index finger flat across the strings and use your middle finger to do all the hammering he's doing with the left hand
@Cooley1 the difference you're hearing is from not tapping EXACTLY like he does on the album, tappings just a bit more difficult to replicate in sound.
@Niallphillips well the idea is to get good enough to not need them, which is why you would practice without them. But when you're playing live you're moving around a lot so its good to have some assurance; same goes for recording, you want maximum clarity.
@SirWhatsHisNuts Every single tab I looked up is 100% wrong (and 1000 times harder) according to these guys. So glad I get to see them do it themselves.
@andrasgearbox yes it is but u can see that when tim plays. it doesnt show u the rhythm it just shows that it highlights everytime the string is plucked when it is the same note. which is stupid but i guess its a time same saver.i guess thats what they did for lukes riff when he played it
@aidanscovers its gonna show up as Eb, Ab etc or as D#,G#,C#,F#,A#,D# buton some tuners the sharp sign will show up as a dot next to the note. Hope that helps bud
why havent i seen this yet?? lol are there other songs or just this one?? anyways i always like watching these for the theory or no theory: thought behind each part...
@DiscreetDropkick I think you mean you're. Also, my reference for the Lo to Hi orientation is my guitar teacher (classically trained cello and flamenco-guitar player - irrelevant yes, but just saying), and my Guitar for Dummies book where they used the mnemonic: E(ddie) A(te) D(ynamite), G(ood) B(ye) e(ddie). And incase you were just talking about tuning the guitar: from the UG forum I was told to tune my guitar from Lo to Hi (especially my Floyd Rose). And don't call people dumb, it's rude.
@linkdx14 if u meant part 2, its up. as for more instructionals, there's one for bloodmeat incase u dunno. other than that i doubt it, they're recording new album soon. keep it metal dawg \m/
@GHXSTmusic They just said that for the sake of orientation/reference tuning is half step down, i mentioned it in the description. The tuning u mentioned is full step down and you said the strings in reverse order. Most ppl say it, Lo to Hi.
@slipknotbmth No, not quite. Just lay a finger flat on the strings, like a barre. Don't actually fret the notes, just put your finger lightly on top. (Like with the single string harmonics.) Then start looking for the sweet spot to get the harmonic. You'll have to keep your finger straight up and down to get the harmonic ringing on all the strings though. Hope this helps :)
@Screamokid2k Left Index finger with Right middle and ring fingers. I dont like it that way so play a transposed version with Left index and ring with Right Middle (like Chin).
@teamSKDM sorry, i forgot this was sequoia haha. You are indeed correct, my friend has one and his custom one is being delivered hopefully soon....gonna be balls to wall metal \m/ if 310Ibanez is reading, the Eclipse II is from the bloodmeat video...my bad. rock on \m/
gotta love these dudes and august burns red... I just wish their tabs were still on songsterr and ultimate guitar, any one know why all the good tabs are being removed? and i know PTH is from Canada
It's probably because they published the tabs in their tab books. And I think tab websites have been removing tabs out of respect. www.sheethappenspublishing.com/artists/protest-the-hero
@@kamikaz1k I know i bought all three of their tab books kezia, fortress both tab books on pdf files and scurrilous (the only physical copy). I lost the files because they were on my computer 7 years ago so i wanted to go back and jam the older songs without having to spend another 75$ ya know? lol... sheet happens tho huh
@@kamikaz1k I dont think its a bad idea to get money from tabs... but going out of your way to remove the tabs that are there by honest people takes away the chance for younger guitarists to learn. not everyone can afford the 25$ per book just so they can learn 1 song they want to jam. I understand they are musicians and need to make a living, but i think big bands like ABR make enough $ to where they should just chill out and let people put tabs on ultimate guitar... its not like everyone is out there ripping the tabs straight out of the tab book and putting them online just to piss them off lol
Bit late replying. but basically if you are still wondering he is tapping hard enough on the strings with the finger on both of his hands to create a vibration strong enough for the pickups to sense
i am learning this song and i can play most of it at a slow rate ( i started learning it today and im doing good on the legato runs:) the problem is that im 13 and i have an ibanez with a 26 inch scale neck and i have small hands T-T my fingers hurt from stretching haha
It's even one of the hardest parts in the song in my opinion... basically, i can play pretty much the whole song, but the speed in this part makes it kinda har not to play it sloppy...
Ive been playing for 1 and a half years or so and i got the intro down in about 20 mins. Looks hard, sounds tricky, but is actually only moderately hard lol. They are still unbelievably talented song writes tho.
@Bigbarbecuebacon thanks but if satch, greg howe and this guy all use em im just gonna do what they do..if you can do that properly send me a video of it and it might change my mind
If anyone is as idiotic as me, you might find it helpful to know the notes with circles around them are tapped.... took me 5 minutes of utter confusion and frustration to realise that!
Mixing, it's so lukes leads can shine through, & when they are harmonizing runs & such they sound better with 2 differant tone. Look up Isolated drum/bass/guitar tracks, most of the time they wont sound as good as they do in the song.
The guy on the left goes on for a minute about how he plays the intro and the guy on the right goes: ''Well I'm just kinda chugging on the open E, it's palm muted... and alternate picking...... you wanna play together?
do yourself a favor when you learn the tapping intro and keep your pick in your hand. i learned it without a pick and was tapping with my index finger but you need to have the pick ready for the verse right away which forces you to tap with your ring finger
Took me a few months but I learned this song so proud of my self.
Fuck ya man, good shit
I love the layout of these lessons! So easy to follow. I wish more bands did lessons like this
those guys sure master their instrument !
Jesus tims amp sounds like margaret thatcher farting into a tuba played back on a motorola razer
What the shit, but yes.
masterofsloths Yeah wtf is with it, I'm pretty sure in the song you won't be using that set up.
Oh god you're right
It's probably mic placement, if we're being honest. Luke's tone is muffled as well.
@301Ibanez The guitar is a Caparison. Michael Romeo, from Symphony X, also uses it.
@RyanMartinIsForYou fret numbers without circles is tapping with your left hand. With circles would be right hand.
Luke is the one that has more of the harder riffs and yet... "I have the same run... Well not the same... Harmonized then?" "Yep." "Yeah I'm harmonized." hahaha
Dude, I don't know about you, but after getting that intro riff, I think it's the best feeling I've ever gotten from learning anything on guitar so far. lol
I watch this any time I come across is because these dudes are just genius.
Now I don't feel bad about using hair ties on my guitar. If PTH does it, then it's officially cool.
@Niallphillips well the idea is to get good enough to not need them, which is why you would practice without them. But when you're playing live you're moving around a lot so its good to have some assurance; same goes for recording, you want maximum clarity.
the guitar of right is a CAPARISON "dellinger" is a amazing guitar
"The tapping is easier then sounds or looks"
o k.
It really is though
I love playing this riff to make people think I’m better than I am
@SirWhatsHisNuts Every single tab I looked up is 100% wrong (and 1000 times harder) according to these guys. So glad I get to see them do it themselves.
The tabbing on this video is amazing
i love Tim's tone...it sounds sooooo metal:D
They need more of these videos
that intro tapping is unreal
@andrasgearbox yes it is but u can see that when tim plays. it doesnt show u the rhythm it just shows that it highlights everytime the string is plucked when it is the same note. which is stupid but i guess its a time same saver.i guess thats what they did for lukes riff when he played it
I remember stopping this video after you went through a tapping riff.
I was like "OMG YOU TAP SO FAST!" and clasping my hair like O.O
@slipknotbmth legato means they're using hammer ons or pull offs, or sometimes both. so the answer to your question: hammer ons.
don't ever take these vidz down dog.......... IS A PERFECT PERFECT video i'm gonna learn this song
this is awesome i hope to see more videos cheers
wow I love the on the note tab playalong
my god this is so friggin helpful. thank you so much for posting this. im definately going to learn this.
@Cryptopsy666 obviously you've never tried to play it. The rythm is like trying to walk through a mine field with snow shoes on
i wish all instructional vids had embedded tabs
this was awesome
@aidanscovers its gonna show up as Eb, Ab etc or as D#,G#,C#,F#,A#,D# buton some tuners the sharp sign will show up as a dot next to the note. Hope that helps bud
@slipknotbmth yeah at 2:32 pick every note, but in tims part when he says the legato part, its hammer ons.
yeah man, the tab book has quite a few changes from what luke is doing here in the video, i guess just play which ever you prefer.
why havent i seen this yet?? lol are there other songs or just this one?? anyways i always like watching these for the theory or no theory: thought behind each part...
took me 3 and a half hours but i finally go the tapping part at the beginning down... now on to the rest of it
@DiscreetDropkick I think you mean you're. finally this is what i've been looking for, THANKS A LOT!!!
@GHXSTmusic They just said that for the sake of orientation/reference
tuning is half step down, i mentioned it in the description.
The tuning u mentioned is full step down and you said the strings in reverse order. Most ppl say it, Lo to Hi.

They make it look so simple ;-; Now I might be able to learn it.
no joke. this band has made me the guitarist I am.
1:45
....did someone start slapping a bucket while Tim was meant to play?
@301Ibanez *Caparison, Dellinger model
@kamikaz1k its a caparison not an esp
Nice, I really want to learn this. I think i'll have it down in a month or so.
mother of god, you're right. Plus, Tim's tone through that amp is like the Crystalline Entity
I love how he talks one and a half minutes about this fucking hairband and how awesome it is
Luke now has a signature Ibanez.
@SpacePirate99 it took me nearly 2 weeks, and that is only to get it out of ryhtim, i'm still unable to play it as fast, but i'm getting nearer!
the notes that are circled are the 1's he taps
@kamikaz1k It is a caparison dellinger
I need one of these videos for the bass!
took me a little but i finally got it! thx uploader
@FrossetSkygge Right? It's like he cranked his bass and mids and not his treble at all. or something like that
@HeWhoWalksTheFire
Looks like a Caparison Dellinger.
They are GODS!! holy crap I mean there is no way a person made these songs
Protest The Hero- The god band
The 2nd riff is (Em) 5-4-0-1-0-4-5 as tabed, but it think he plays 5-4-0-1-0-0-4-5, right?
@Screamokid2k Left Index finger with Right middle and ring fingers. I dont like it that way so play a transposed version with Left index and ring with Right Middle (like Chin).
This video makes me think I need to upgrade to an Ibanez...and practice.
i would personally apprentice you guys
I had a sneaking assumption that the thumbnail featured a caparison guitar of some sort, based on the oval inlays.
@TylarBoyle just listen to the song you should be able to hear it and get a tab
@301Ibanez it's a caparison tat
@teamSKDM sorry, i forgot this was sequoia haha. You are indeed correct, my friend has one and his custom one is being delivered hopefully soon....gonna be balls to wall metal \m/
if 310Ibanez is reading, the Eclipse II is from the bloodmeat video...my bad.
rock on \m/

I'm new to guitar, I don't plan on playing this but I'm just wondering how he plays the first riff (and many others) without strumming.
with electric all you have to do is tap the strings, called hammer-ons and pulloffs, pretty sure
Bit late replying. but basically if you are still wondering he is tapping hard enough on the strings with the finger on both of his hands to create a vibration strong enough for the pickups to sense
just learned it here and now. very fun
@meatball707 Eb standard // low to hi: Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb
the tab book has two different notes in the intro I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO
Tim's tone :(
It's so painful...
@CaptainShmiggles you know its their music soooo they can change it to their liking :P
What a lesson ❤❤❤
i am learning this song and i can play most of it at a slow rate ( i started learning it today and im doing good on the legato runs:) the problem is that im 13 and i have an ibanez with a 26 inch scale neck and i have small hands T-T my fingers hurt from stretching haha
Something about Tim's tone seems off to me, maybe it's the recording?
No, it's just realllly bad in this video.
Proggish Yeah it sounds pretty horrible
@vasilios1994 he has a caparison dellinger
It's even one of the hardest parts in the song in my opinion... basically, i can play pretty much the whole song, but the speed in this part makes it kinda har not to play it sloppy...
So basically they're telling us that the song is impossible to play HA
@teamSKDM Michael Romeo from Symphony X uses one but he has a signature, one day i hope to own one
Ive been playing for 1 and a half years or so and i got the intro down in about 20 mins. Looks hard, sounds tricky, but is actually only moderately hard lol. They are still unbelievably talented song writes tho.
ok so at 2:26 is that and the other riffs besides 5-4-0-1-0-0--4-5 are those all hammer ons? just like the legato runs?
@301Ibanez ESP Eclipse II
@Duey182 looks like its G flat major i think
So this next part's actually much easier than it looks andmyeyesgocrosseyed
I was wrong it is the 5470. i forgot the prestiges were named differantly
@301Ibanez its a caparison
@THUMBSEY true, bad habbit, i hold it in my mouth nd catch it when i need it..
So what notes are the strings when you tune it down one semi tone?
Eb, Ab, Db, Gb, Bb, Eb
how do you tune to E flat i have a chromatic tuner but it doesnt show that so would proper tuning be DGCFAD? please hurry on the reply
....did anybody else die a little on the inside when they realized
they would never be able to play this song
@Bigbarbecuebacon thanks but if satch, greg howe and this guy all use em im just gonna do what they do..if you can do that properly send me a video of it and it might change my mind
Does anyone know the software that made the moving tab on the video?
Guitar Pro is what I use!
It costs a bit, but its pretty helpful
If anyone is as idiotic as me, you might find it helpful to know the notes with circles around them are tapped.... took me 5 minutes of utter confusion and frustration to realise that!
Nope im with ya haha
ahahaha
dude you got the whole thing?? all i could ever get was a sample
fucking hell, they make it look so effortless.
@xFicozee sorry bud, this is all I could find. There is a Bloodmeat instructional, search for it. It's sponsored by guitar world magazine.
Mixing, it's so lukes leads can shine through, & when they are harmonizing runs & such they sound better with 2 differant tone. Look up Isolated drum/bass/guitar tracks, most of the time they wont sound as good as they do in the song.

at all the parts around 5:00 ish how many times do you play each tapping part???
what do the fret numbers not in circles at the start mean??
