I've just finished the second book in the Powerless series and I can officially confirm that the character lacks emotional depth. They don't really seem to deal with many dark emotions and when they do it's always surface level. One of their friends could die and they would take about three seconds to feel somewhat sad and maybe even shed a single tear. I just feel like nothing was fully developed in those books...

yes! that’s exactly what it’s like! like in the first one when paedyn just forgets her best friend exists for the entire of the first bit of her being at the palace place😅

Oof I wish I had dnf’d Magnolia Parks!! That book is the definition of unnecessary. And I recently read and posted a video about Powerless and oh my gosh. The lack of editing really killed any hope I had of liking that book. And the amount of times the author beat me over the head with everyone’s eye color was crazy. Great video, I instantly subbed.

Powerless is literally like every other YA romantasy. Down to the vague "magic" system, corrupt monarchy and government, the characters, etc. It's all the same, it really feels like a copy and I was honestly getting deja vu lol. It felt like a book I had read before, "Of Cages and Crowns", except that one actually made sense and had depth. Lauren Roberts is also very criticized for "copying" Red Queen by Victoria Ayevgard. Although I can't say I've read it, I have heard the two are eerily similar, down to exact scenes and character descriptions. Also, why do all (YA) romantasies end in someone in power (usually king/Queen) die at the end??? And then their child has to replace them, why does that happen so often lol.

oh yeah, i’ve heard that about “red queen” but i haven’t read it either! and you’re so right about the King/Queen thing and I can’t believe I haven’t ever noticed it before😅

I don't know if it's popular on TikTok anymore but if you haven't read Lightlark, I think a video of you reacting to it would be highly entertaining
