This is from some of my relatives and friends who are Asians. When they met Americans, Americans always tell them that their English is good and asked how did they learn to speak English? Those relatives and friends replied that they are American, Australian and Canadian. Such thinking shows how bad Americans are about outside world and seeing Asians. When my Asian friends visit or work in the States, Americans tends to think they are from brutally oppressed countries and says their country needs to be liberated and be given freedom and democracy. 😣 Fortunately, my American relatives travel and lived in other countries, and they do see and know things like you do.
I went to China in January 1973 - I was 18 and was part of the very first student group from Australia after Prime Minister Gough Whitlam had formally recognised China in November 1972. Chairman Mao was still alive. It has been absolutely mind blowing to see the amazing progress the Chinese People have achieved. China was so very very poor when I was there, but the people were so proud of what they were achieving and what stood out to me was their cleverness and ingenuity and deep respect for their culture and family but most of all their wit and wonderful sense of humour - we had such fun. Every time I see footage of China now my heart swells with pride - BRAVO CHINA Thank you Cyrus for your wonderful videos
China became prosperous at the expense of the West. The world needed a factory to produce goods and China positioned itself very well. I suspect history will repeat in other Asian countries as well, namely India which has the potential to become the world’s next electronics and tech manufacturing factory. This is good for Asia as a whole. The rise of Asia is inevitable.

This video almost makes me cry… Thank you so much for telling the truth about Chinese people…During this year of studying in Canada, I actually had a lot of feelings about the implicit bias against the Chinese people. I do know that some of my people bring bad impressions to the world, but the thing is that not every Chinese like that… The only thing I hope is that please don’t be stereotyped and we are really friendly! From Chinese perspective, I would say Cyrus truly understands the mentality of us. He knows China really well. However, as Cyrus mentioned, average Chinese knows about the West more than most Westerners' knowledge about China.

I am at the same age as the economic reform of Deng Xiaoping. I was born in Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong province, where Deng Xiaoping used two of its cities, Zhuhai and Shenzhen, as special economic testing zones 珠海经济特区 深圳经济特区. Before I left for USA in 1992, I already saw a lot of economic development in these regions, but now that I’ve been in the USA for three decades, China is entirely transformed not just in Zhuhai and Shenzhen, but all over China. ❤❤❤ Bravo and support my motherland ❤❤❤
@@bk3289 I’ve gone back many times. I’ve been to half of China and visited many ancient capitals and modern cities. We will be traveling back again soon as I still have relatives living in HK, Macau, Guangzhou, Shanghai and different parts of Zhejiang and Jiangxi provinces.

The reasons why you are so well received in China is that right from the start, you made an effort to understand the Chinese language, embraced the Chinese culture, and most importantly, you went with an open mind. Talking about learning a second language, I have a small joke to share: If you speak three languages, you are tri-lingual, if you speak two languages, you are bi-lingual, and if speak only one language, you are, no, not mono- lingual, nor uni-lingual, you are, an American! Talking about Chinese people love to save and American living from pay check to pay check, just look at all these small financial stores all over North America, “same day loans”, “pay day advances”, “$300 for $20” etc., all these stores charges exorbitant rate of interests disguised as processing fees. The poor just become poorer. I’ve been to China more than 20 times, never saw such a store there.
Ashley, you don’t see those shops but famous are the people calling you for black loans. ( every day a few times). Since Alipay and wechat are there it is very easy for Chinese citizens to get a small loan.
@@walterkooy1307 Thanks for the info, I thought when you use Alipay and wechat pay, it’s like using a debit card, ie, money is directly and instantly transferred to the vendor from your bank account.
Most Chinese also have this mentality - no one owes you a living and they must go work hard/smart if one wants to live a good life. Chinese also very open-minded. They love to travel out

My son lives in China his wife is Chinese and they are about to have their first baby. I am going to be on my way, for the first visit to China, to help them with their new born baby for 2 months. Also going to visit to begin my transition of moving to China eventually.

Even among Chinese Malaysians and Singaporeans, those who went to English schools were significantly different in their perspective, mentality and expectations than those who went to Chinese schools. For comparison, whenever a problem arises, a Chinese educated individual will most likely ask as to how to fix it while an English educated one will probably ask who's to blame. It's a mindset thing ingrained by early education.
I think it depends. I'm assuming you went to a Chinese school in SG before it switch to English. I'm sure you are proud of the culture, but to date, some of these students resent the government for doing that and think they are superior . Not everyone does but those who do love to bask in their past glory & snubbed those who are not Chinese medium educated. How I know? I met so many of them. Good to br proud another thing to feel superior
I noticed many Malaysian-Chinese and Singaporean-Chinese are proud to be Chinese despite their differences with Chinese in China. I think there is the difference between opinions and bloodline. It is obvious that the West is attacking Chinese people and culture, instead of attacking CCP or CPC. They claim that it is the government, but it is not. It is just an excuse used to attack China. The reality is they don't want China or any other country to rise up, so I support China's rise 1000%. USA is a poor representation of human rights now.
I am not too sure, having to deal with some new recruits in my industry, many Chinese educated tend to think the rest of the world must circulate around him! Outside that circle, they could be lonely islands in many cases.

I‘m Korean living in China as an expat family and I must say you are totally spot on! I’ve spent more than half of my life in overseas and China is the most interesting countries I’ve been to. It is the closest to the future world (e.g. no one uses cash or credit card here) and it is actually very different from how most of the politically-geared major medias portray. You really have to come and see, feel, and experience here for yourself to understand what I mean. I love the phrase 想办法. Instead of hatred, let’s make an effort to understand one another.

It is important that we all live in prosperity and a stable environment. I would love to see all the foreigners especially the Americans come and visit. I was in China a couple times and its really nice country. People should stop listening to polictians to be told how to think, but should go out and travel and learn how to think.
Chinese _think_ *solution*, American politicians _think_ *problem*. One look for solutions to problems, the other keep looking at the problem, worse they can also destroy the problem despite having no solutions - which more often than not would worsen the situation !😅
Cyrus you mentioned in the video that living in China for the Chinese is no different than the US. Ive been living in China now for a couple months and it is very different. I can enjoy travel and adventure or riding the subway and go to the mall all without the threat of being killed. The kids are not being shot in school, they're just learning and growing. The people are all given meaning and purpose and don't act out a sense of hopelessness and having nothing to lose. It is very different.
I am an Australian who works in the iron ore industry and resides in Asia. We earn good money and live the Asian lifestyle where we have simple basic lifestyle on the beach and only have what we need and NO DEBT!! Australians like me can thank China who drives the demand, sadly however we are still bitches to the US which will ultimately cost this country.
I am in Perth Australia and agree with you, however there are more and more people here who are beginning to understand that the Chinese way is possibly the best way, although possibly with Australian characteristics may suit us better. Remember the Eureka Stockade.
I left the US after graduate school and never looked back. I lived and worked for about forty years in Germany, traveled extensively in Europe and visited China. I am now retired and live in Greece. It has been an incredible journey.
I am French. I have lived in China since 2006 and now split my time between Montreal, Canada, and China, and I appreciate this video because it talks about positive statements (facts that can be proven in social sciences), and I was also able to observe the relevance of the 10 facts mentioned in this video. STAY THERE PLEASE - and I hope you become a Citizen of China and you will need to relinquish your other Citizenship and get a Chinese passport and went things go south as it's always the case with all totalitarian regimes and you try to fled the country as it happened in Cuba, Russia, Venezuela and Nicaragua and you are not able to leave then you wish you never had made that mistake. How can western media report on China since western reporters are banned or their movements are monitored strictly in China with cctv everywhere. It was the Chinese citizens themselves who reported what happen inside China with their mobile phone video recording. And somehow manage to smuggle out the recorded videos.

Thank you so much Cyrus! I've never visited China. However, I had up to three factories working on contracts for me, for 10 years. I developed a deep respect with people who are, essentially, quite like myself! I am not a young man anymore. My grandpa was a cook, a teacher and a builder in pioneer Quebec. He loved to tell incredible stories of work, more work and how he raised 9 kids! He never talked about money but always made enough. He raised very healthy contributive children and I met my bigger-than-life cousins too. They all reminded me of the Chinese I met in Toronto and online. It's been a very joyful and gratifying experience to work and converse with Chinese. By contrast, I also worked for years in the US. I loved it very much, and loved Americans most. But, it pains me to see the corporate white collar abuses, and the media warmongering drum-beating to generate funds ending up in more weapons and more pharma. More "tech" but much less concerns about resolving social issues, violence (the police is often overwhelmed) discrimination and a growing chasm between the very rich and the rest of us. Religions have faded and with it, morals have been replaced by a thirst for quick fame and riches. Anyhow, hopefully this is just a "pendulum swing" and we can return to family, friendship, team work, know pride in the work we do (I do!) and PEACE. I believe a great positive change is coming. I lived in China for more than 30 years and fortunately escaped that country long time ago. It’s one’s misfortune to be born in that country. I never want to tell people I was related to it.

The president of my country Brazil is in China now and they made a video asking Chinese students about Brazil. And my family was shocked because they knew more than our neighbor countries. Nobody knows anything about us in the west except stereotypes. And they knew aspects of geography, history, culture. After 30 years of trade and almost 15 of BRICS we went from an unfavorable view to a positive one. I think because we are so culturally diverse it’s easy for us to understand a culture that is so different and respect it for what it is.
Long live People's Republic of China. Truly happy to see an Asian Giant becoming the leader of the downtrodden and oppressed world. May all the difference between India and PRC resolve and we grow and develop together. India needs China and China needs India, for a better world.

Being an Indian and considering China as enemy for major part of my life, I did make great friends from China when I went to Singapore, learnt lot of life lessons. But about mainland China, did not have much idea. Your today's video is much revealing. Thanks so much 👍
Indians are remarkably successful in Singapore as expatriates and as citizens. They are elites in the government, judiciary, armed forces, civil services and businesses. Even in sports they are doing very well. As a minority, inevitably they have their share of discrimination. In Singapore, the national service plays a big part in blending together recruits of all ethnicities and social classes. We can all learn to work with each other, local and foreigners, whatever their backgrounds. Imagine what more India can achieve when young Indians are given opportunities to excel. Together with China, both nations in collaboration will make huge differences to the world. I travelled to China in 2013 and stayed for 2 weeks. After 24 hours, the first thing I realized is that everything I was told was untrue. If given an opportunity, I would move to China in a heartbeat. I am currently learning Mandarin.

I used to be critical of China, because the mainstream media feeds us with so much negative about the country. I have been to China....Many of my friends are Chinese who now live in America and would NEVER return to their home land!!. If you only saw how they treated their people during that Covid out break..you would never want to live there a horrible deadly disease that they deliberately created and spread it throught- out this world killing millions!...Forcing their people to stay in the homes & apartments some going without food for weeks...taking their family pets away from them then taking them out on the streets and beating them to death trying to get it under control....many concentration camps where they enslave many people of Muslin decent in places through- out China...I could go on & on about the real deal with this country...and this idiot in this video makes it sound like a fun loving country...it is shit and nobody in their right mind would want to live there....Go ahead and laugh at me for saying this or better yet go take a trip there and see for yourself and see that I'm not just bullshitting you and making all this up..this clown has many videos praising China and its people on this Tic-Tok...and people like you actually believes what he says...oh by the way go on the Internet over there and see how the Government sencers & controls it.....Yeah! This video is my best day activity today. At a very young age I went with my father who supplied detergents and foodstuffs to the Chinese restaurants in Amsterdam. They were often more friends than business associates. Our business grew with the enormous growth of Chinese restaurants. Virtually every restaurant in the Netherlands was a customer and our relationship was one of mutual trust and respect. Although never been to China, I recognize what you bring up. Incidentally, there are many more Chinese communities than just in China. With many similarities. Thanks for this excellent video
I lived for about 10 years in China (Macau). Yes, it changed me forever too, chinese people are amazing. I miss them terribly when I´m working, because they are the best coworkers you can imagine. It is a very safe country too, we can walk anywhere nobody will harm you.I deeply love chinese people.
I love China. It’s so diverse in ways most people can’t imagine. I’m FilAm and the Chinese people and their culture is more inline with the Filipino culture than the Americans. Some Americans may seem aloof to outsiders but they’re just more humble and not as boisterous as westerners, especially outside of the larger cities.

@@OpheliaPG Sadly, some Filipinos (but not all) tend to have the colonial mentality as a result of Philippines being a former American colony. The Americans had promised to grant independence to the Philippines if they would side with them against Spain. But after the American-Spanish war, the Americans did not honor their promise, instead they claimed Philippines for themselves, resulting in the American-Philippines war in which a quarter million Filipinos died.
When I told a guy from HK (never been to mainland) China mainland is very diverse and he laughed at me and told me I was brainwashed and only western countries are diverse, since then I never complained westerners don’t understand China 😂
The true problem that plagues better understanding of China in the Western world is the media. When the people are bombarded with negative (dramatized +biased) news almost every day, it's hard to have fair views on China. Keep doing what you do, Cyrus.
Great video Cyrus. I learnt all these lessons when I lived in China and I would add one more. The way the elderly are revered and are usually living in or nearby their own kids and grandchildren. They take care of the kids while the parents work so not much day care and not much retirement villages like the the west. When I came back to New Zealand I was determined to not put my parents in a home to become lonely and depressed which is immoral but very sad.
Especially 10. ALL THE WAY. This video brought me to tears. Thank you Cyrus, people like you build bridges and make this world a better place, and for that, we’re grateful.

Even as a 2nd generation Chinese Americans that is as American as any American, these same values and lessons you mentioned here today is still instill in me from my parents to this day. Now I'm passing along these very same values to my daughter along with our American values.
American values? You mean military 'interventions' and no-colonialism? A million Iraqis and another billion muslims curse those "values". Not to mention what the central Americans, certain pacific islanders and Vietnamese wish upon the US. So no, don't teach your children 'American values ".
There is something I don't get. If family is so important why do they only take one holiday to spend with their loved ones ? Why do they give to much attention to work ?
@@cmg.g6175 Maybe in the next generation, when they have more financial freedom they can spend more time with their family. My parents grew up in a China where they didn't eat on certain days. My dad lost a sibling from starvation. It's psychologically ingrain in them to never ever be poor again so they don't starve, thus they work their ass off. And that sacrifice to work hard to feed their family is done so exclusively for the family's prosperity and survival. I do agree that this doesn't apply to me anymore but they have ingrained in me to work hard and cherish any time you have with family. Its hard for us in the states to fully understand this given so much was given to us since childhood.
As a Chinese, thank you for your time in China and understanding us. What you said actually are the virtues in Chinese culture, and they didn't only exist in Chinese culture, but also in all other cultures, just with different levels of focusing. For example, family is a really focused aspect of Chinese culture, being “孝”(do good to elders, especially closed ones like parents, grandparents), is one of the most taught virtues in Confucianism. But Americans also love and respect their parents or grandparents, they simply express these feelings in simpler and more direct ways and have "smaller family" compared to Chinese. The essence of the video is that we need to have more understanding towards other cultures, and we will realize they are also people like you and me, and there would always be things to learn from. I could also confirm about your ideas about health in China. In my family, we never go to hospital or eat any medicine if it's self-recoverable, like a cold, and try to sleep and eat good. And during my more than 20 years of life, I had only been to a hospital twice one when I was a kid and had Asthma during Beijing in the early 2000 when there were no restrictions about air quality. another when I had varicella in my teen. My parent and grandparent, which now almost 90, are similar, never eat medicine or go to hospital unless necessary. For the society, it saves resources, for yourself, it strengthens your immunity. Thank you for being such an eloquent and convincing advocate for peace and friendship between two great peoples. The narrative of the Western main stream media (MSM) on China today is filled with bigotry, bias, hate, distrust, and fear, sometimes even bordering on war mongering. Your views here are refreshing welcome relief from these diatribes. Like any country there are surely shortcomings that should not be overlooked; but the fact remains China is developing not only so rapidly but comprehensively that there must be something right with their general approach towards development. Contrary to popular MSM impression about the Chinese government, they are much more adaptable and open to pragmatic ideas that work for all people not just the rich and powerful. Democracy should not only be procedural (voting to choose leader) but in practice (how most people can benefit from good governance). A failed 'democracy' is either plutocracy (wealthy) or oligarchy (elitist).
Prof Zhang Weiwei describes China's government as a combination of _"Selection + Election"_ *Selection:* Competent politicians are selected through trials, tests, exams and promoted accordingly. This meritocratic system is derived from the ancient Chinese Imperial Exam system. *Election:* Not only must politicians be smart, but they have to garner the approval of their peers (i.e other CPC members) and get elected. This democratic system is adopted from the West.
Hey Cyrus, I have been a subscriber since you started. Why...? Because you were the first person who spoke the exact same feelings that I experienced during my time living in China. I am Australian and I started my time in Jan 2014, I married a mainland woman after a couple of years dating, but the living life there, well I count that as full time from 2014. Everything you have said in your video today, I would have said time and time again to people who are immediately negative about China. Some people, unfortunately though, will never change their views. I am a 30 year Veteran of our Army and have served overseas, I was not in a rear echelon position, I was out on the front line where the bullets go in two directions. It was through this experience I realised that something we were doing was wrong and over the 2001 - 04 period I was injured a couple of times, and my views on the whole thing had changed. It messed me up a bit, but it was in a UN hospital that I met my future wife. We never knew it though ;). She was just a nurse looking after me, nothing more at that time. A lot of the people I associate with are ex military, from the Vietnam conflict to present day issues with no active service. at least 90% of them think China is the enemy, simply because of the US and Australian Governments policy about China. No amount of reasoning with them is worth it, but the others are the complete opposite and see China as our best trading partner and the governments destroying our GDP just to appease the Neo Cons in the White House. My greatest asset are my photographs and video clips of all the places my wife and I have been to. we have traveled well off the tourist trail, to rural towns and farms, places I cannot remember until I watch the video again. It is funny having to explain that this is just a small town with half a million people, to Australians...LoL My favourite comments are; It is all about family, if you have never been, do not make rash judgements, and the education makes us look like we are not serious about our children! I work in a company involved with setting up manufacturing in China. We had many dealings with government agencies. I was so impressed by how they went out of their way to make it possible to for us to succeed. I was also impressed with the people. I would love to live in China. The colonial mentality continues to afflict many in Hong Kong, causing them to worship Anglo-Saxon culture while harboring disdain for any "non-Anglo" culture (including their own). Even though Hong Kong has been physically decolonized, the decolonization of the mind still needs time, in order to heal the mental wounds inflicted by the colonizer on the minds of the colonized.

So glad I caught this video, Cyrus! I grew up with many different cultures and languages in my neighborhood as a kid and I loved it. I refuse to accept or agree with others such as our government and our media, telling me whom to hate. No, absolutely no! There's so much beauty in the Chinese culture, traditions and so much to appreciate. I think their government really does look out for their people and do an incredible job. I can respect the differences between us and also enjoy our similarities. I will try saying "Nee-how!" and hope to build a bridge of friendship with the only local Chinese family I know in my very small town, they are very nice folks. I'm so looking forward to experiencing China with you in the future! It is possibly not your government, except they may be afraid to tell Americans how much better China is than America, or possibly they can't believe it themselves, It is the lying media such as Murdoch who could not even figure out the internet and can't appear to get it right.
Going on year 14 here in mainland China. The people overall are great, the food is amazing, and crime is very low. With that said, the government here is getting more and more heavy handed and over involving themselves in the daily lives of the people. They're also fostering a growing nationalistic sentiment among the populace (especially in the lower tier cities/less educated demographic) that is unfortunate. I love the Han people, perhaps due to having a Chinese mother myself. But the CCP has screwed the economy (one child policy, covid, ruining trade relations) and the Chinese people deserve much much better sadly.

Sometimes when I tell people how great Taiwan is or how rich the Chinese culture is, people are not interested. I went to China for the first time in 1999. I was shocked at the difference between what I thought I would experience and what I actually experienced. I had the most fantastic time there. The people were exceptional. I couldn't wait to finish my meetings and hit the streets. I walked for so many hours in Beijing. I really loved the old market. Yeah, that one, the one that I was told was over 4,000 years old. The old market I visit here is about 20 years old. Although I had zero Chinese language I had absolutely no problem communicating. The first thing I learned was they were exactly the same as me. I never felt safer walking around a city as I did in China. I can only imagine how much better it is today 23 years later. I'm from malaysia and is of Chinese descent and I wholeheartedly agree with you on all yr pointers except that some go to China to look for bad breaths eg selina wang from CNN. During my 1st trip to my mother's home " gucun", we were praised for speaking so many languages. We, ourselves were jaw dropped during that visit which will forever be etched into my memory. Well thanks Jansen for bringing these pointers to light. For me they're real and tangible values, not abstract concepts.

As a British citizen, when I talk to family or old friends in the UK, somehow they assume that I must have been brainwashed in some kind of government camp if I say anything good about my life in China. Maybe, it is better if more Westerners don't come here, they might go home with a feeling of discontentment for their "Beautiful Kingdom" (USA) or their "Kingdom of the Brave" (UK)

I had the opportunity to learn English and study abroad, and I was appalled at how many Westerners (but not all) have a negative perception of China. Even after I bring up China's achievements, some Westerners (not all) just laugh at me, called me brain wash or tell me to _"Go Back to China!",_ even though many of them never actually set foot in China themselves.

The Chinese have very little understanding about how the West works. When Meng Wanzhou was arrested, of the many people I spoke to, they all thought Trump had ordered it, having no knowledge or concept of separation of government and autonomous institutions.

As a Chinese American I've all but given up on the states due to the level of racism and hate I've experienced as well as the hate I see constantly on CNN. Don't lecture Americans about racism. We are one of the most diverse nations on earth. When I see videos of crowds in Chinese cities, I never see Africans and few people of other races. Chinese immigrants have thrived in the USA.
I think what's holding people back from understanding China is their economic system: Socialism with "Chinese characteristics", there's so much stigma against socialism and communism, so people fear and disdain China because of it
Those of us who knew and experienced communism in Eastern Europe during the 70s and 80s, wouldn't say that China is communist. There's a world of difference.

It’s hard to save money in the US when we have medical debt, education debt, high cost of housing and transportation. When I traveled in China I felt their society was doing a much better job of providing for their hard working people. I didn’t see homelessness, drug use, graffiti, or the violence that is becoming the norm in the US. China is doing something right. A lot of things right. We can learn from China. I have been living in both western country and China over 30 years. I find that more westerners prefer to separate from others by culture. But Chinese people are more like to share their culture with others. Chinese people like to share their happiness with family, friends, and colleagues together, no matter where the ethnic area the people are from.

My life took a different turn, I immigrated from Macedonia to the United States and only recently took up on the opportunity to start learning Chinese. I was there to visit in 94 then 01, 02 then lived there from 04 to 12. I had yearly visit every year until now (minus 20-21 due to pandemic). I can see with my own eyes how China developed since 94. Damn, my own country was better than China back then, now it lacked behind by ten years… by living there in China, my views had changed a lot just like you.
I've been going to China every year since I first met my wife. Prior to my first visit my perception was of a country still stuck in the 60's because that was the image projected by Western media. I was shocked at how modern and cosmopolitan Chinese cities were. The expanse and growth of the country and it's cities has been incredible. I was amazed by how much would change in a period of 12 months, and just like many other Asian countries they've embraced new technology and implemented it everywhere. I would go as far to say that the majority of Chinese cities are more advanced with far better infrastructure than Western cities.
building modern cities they have done - that's what foreign investment (about 90% of the GDP at one time) can do. But having shiny new buildings and having civilized people in those buildings doesn't come at the same time Their society is still years behind their infrastructure. Now that their economy is failing and continuing to deflate and business and capitol is fleeing.....it will be difficult to continue to develop society to be more civilized. It will descend the other way for a while now....
I have lived and worked in 12 countries outside my native Sweden. China is one of them and I enjoyed China massively together with my wife. My favourite cities include Dubai, Tokyo, Shanghai and Istanbul. Now back in Sweden after some 30 years as an expat I feel somewhat under stimulated , still content through.

You are so right. I am Danish and if you think that Americans get to hear that their country is the greatest in the world, you should try going to Denmark... best health care, best schools, best social services, best democracy... bestbestbest. But after having left Denmark 2 years ago to live in South Korea with my family, I realized that Danes are living under a massive reality distortion field. Here in Korea I have experienced better medical care, beautiful culture, rich history, healthier diet, focus on family and good family values, respect for the elderly and foreigners... all things, apart from the history part, that have become hard to come by in "modern" Denmark.
I recently went on my first trip to China and had a wonderful time. The locals were incredibly kind and generous, often sharing fruit or preparing meals for me. I spent most of my time in the Hunan area and am already looking forward to my next visit.

This is from some of my relatives and friends who are Asians. When they met Americans, Americans always tell them that their English is good and asked how did they learn to speak English? Those relatives and friends replied that they are American, Australian and Canadian. Such thinking shows how bad Americans are about outside world and seeing Asians.
When my Asian friends visit or work in the States, Americans tends to think they are from brutally oppressed countries and says their country needs to be liberated and be given freedom and democracy. 😣

I went to China in January 1973 - I was 18 and was part of the very first student group from Australia after Prime Minister Gough Whitlam had formally recognised China in November 1972. Chairman Mao was still alive. It has been absolutely mind blowing to see the amazing progress the Chinese People have achieved. China was so very very poor when I was there, but the people were so proud of what they were achieving and what stood out to me was their cleverness and ingenuity and deep respect for their culture and family but most of all their wit and wonderful sense of humour - we had such fun. Every time I see footage of China now my heart swells with pride - BRAVO CHINA Thank you Cyrus for your wonderful videos

Many young Chinese now don't know that China used to be poor.
China became prosperous at the expense of the West. The world needed a factory to produce goods and China positioned itself very well. I suspect history will repeat in other Asian countries as well, namely India which has the potential to become the world’s next electronics and tech manufacturing factory. This is good for Asia as a whole. The rise of Asia is inevitable.

I am at the same age as the economic reform of Deng Xiaoping. I was born in Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong province, where Deng Xiaoping used two of its cities, Zhuhai and Shenzhen, as special economic testing zones 珠海经济特区 深圳经济特区. Before I left for USA in 1992, I already saw a lot of economic development in these regions, but now that I’ve been in the USA for three decades, China is entirely transformed not just in Zhuhai and Shenzhen, but all over China. ❤❤❤ Bravo and support my motherland ❤❤❤

@@bk3289 I’ve gone back many times. I’ve been to half of China and visited many ancient capitals and modern cities. We will be traveling back again soon as I still have relatives living in HK, Macau, Guangzhou, Shanghai and different parts of Zhejiang and Jiangxi provinces.

The reasons why you are so well received in China is that right from the start, you made an effort to understand the Chinese language, embraced the Chinese culture, and most importantly, you went with an open mind.
Talking about learning a second language, I have a small joke to share: If you speak three languages, you are tri-lingual, if you speak two languages, you are bi-lingual, and if speak only one language, you are, no, not mono- lingual, nor uni-lingual, you are, an American!
Talking about Chinese people love to save and American living from pay check to pay check, just look at all these small financial stores all over North America, “same day loans”, “pay day advances”, “$300 for $20” etc., all these stores charges exorbitant rate of interests disguised as processing fees. The poor just become poorer.
I’ve been to China more than 20 times, never saw such a store there.
Yeah that’s because “Money talks and BS walks” in the “good old” USA.
Ashley, you don’t see those shops but famous are the people calling you for black loans. ( every day a few times). Since Alipay and wechat are there it is very easy for Chinese citizens to get a small loan.

Even among Chinese Malaysians and Singaporeans, those who went to English schools were significantly different in their perspective, mentality and expectations than those who went to Chinese schools.
For comparison, whenever a problem arises, a Chinese educated individual will most likely ask as to how to fix it while an English educated one will probably ask who's to blame. It's a mindset thing ingrained by early education.
I think it depends. I'm assuming you went to a Chinese school in SG before it switch to English.
I'm sure you are proud of the culture, but to date, some of these students resent the government for doing that and think they are superior .
Not everyone does but those who do love to bask in their past glory & snubbed those who are not Chinese medium educated. How I know? I met so many of them. Good to br proud another thing to feel superior
I noticed many Malaysian-Chinese and Singaporean-Chinese are proud to be Chinese despite their differences with Chinese in China. I think there is the difference between opinions and bloodline. It is obvious that the West is attacking Chinese people and culture, instead of attacking CCP or CPC. They claim that it is the government, but it is not. It is just an excuse used to attack China. The reality is they don't want China or any other country to rise up, so I support China's rise 1000%. USA is a poor representation of human rights now.
I am not too sure, having to deal with some new recruits in my industry, many Chinese educated tend to think the rest of the world must circulate around him! Outside that circle, they could be lonely islands in many cases.

I‘m Korean living in China as an expat family and I must say you are totally spot on! I’ve spent more than half of my life in overseas and China is the most interesting countries I’ve been to. It is the closest to the future world (e.g. no one uses cash or credit card here) and it is actually very different from how most of the politically-geared major medias portray. You really have to come and see, feel, and experience here for yourself to understand what I mean. I love the phrase 想办法. Instead of hatred, let’s make an effort to understand one another.

Cyrus you mentioned in the video that living in China for the Chinese is no different than the US. Ive been living in China now for a couple months and it is very different. I can enjoy travel and adventure or riding the subway and go to the mall all without the threat of being killed. The kids are not being shot in school, they're just learning and growing. The people are all given meaning and purpose and don't act out a sense of hopelessness and having nothing to lose. It is very different.

Thank you so much Cyrus! I've never visited China. However, I had up to three factories working on contracts for me, for 10 years. I developed a deep respect with people who are, essentially, quite like myself! I am not a young man anymore. My grandpa was a cook, a teacher and a builder in pioneer Quebec. He loved to tell incredible stories of work, more work and how he raised 9 kids! He never talked about money but always made enough. He raised very healthy contributive children and I met my bigger-than-life cousins too. They all reminded me of the Chinese I met in Toronto and online. It's been a very joyful and gratifying experience to work and converse with Chinese. By contrast, I also worked for years in the US. I loved it very much, and loved Americans most. But, it pains me to see the corporate white collar abuses, and the media warmongering drum-beating to generate funds ending up in more weapons and more pharma. More "tech" but much less concerns about resolving social issues, violence (the police is often overwhelmed) discrimination and a growing chasm between the very rich and the rest of us. Religions have faded and with it, morals have been replaced by a thirst for quick fame and riches. Anyhow, hopefully this is just a "pendulum swing" and we can return to family, friendship, team work, know pride in the work we do (I do!) and PEACE. I believe a great positive change is coming. The president of my country Brazil is in China now and they made a video asking Chinese students about Brazil. And my family was shocked because they knew more than our neighbor countries. Nobody knows anything about us in the west except stereotypes. And they knew aspects of geography, history, culture. After 30 years of trade and almost 15 of BRICS we went from an unfavorable view to a positive one. I think because we are so culturally diverse it’s easy for us to understand a culture that is so different and respect it for what it is.

Being an Indian and considering China as enemy for major part of my life, I did make great friends from China when I went to Singapore, learnt lot of life lessons. But about mainland China, did not have much idea. Your today's video is much revealing. Thanks so much 👍
Indians are remarkably successful in Singapore as expatriates and as citizens. They are elites in the government, judiciary, armed forces, civil services and businesses. Even in sports they are doing very well. As a minority, inevitably they have their share of discrimination. In Singapore, the national service plays a big part in blending together recruits of all ethnicities and social classes. We can all learn to work with each other, local and foreigners, whatever their backgrounds.
Imagine what more India can achieve when young Indians are given opportunities to excel. Together with China, both nations in collaboration will make huge differences to the world. Pascal Coppens, a Belgian, believes that China and India, without a history to dominate over others, will be better placed to solve global challenges.
Singapore has been governed by authoritarian single-party PAP for *57 years,* much like how China has been governed by CPC for *72 years.* It's this long-term leadership that enables a country to plan long-term.

I travelled to China in 2013 and stayed for 2 weeks. After 24 hours, the first thing I realized is that everything I was told was untrue. If given an opportunity, I would move to China in a heartbeat. I am currently learning Mandarin.

Cyrus, thanks for your video. I have lived the last 20 out of 25 years of my life in Taiwan and could say that I learned nearly the same things from Chinese culture as you listed. I wish more Americans could come and live here for awhile and see how different life can be!

I have been to China....Many of my friends are Chinese who now live in America and would NEVER return to their home land!!. This video is my best day activity today. At a very young age I went with my father who supplied detergents and foodstuffs to the Chinese restaurants in Amsterdam. They were often more friends than business associates. Our business grew with the enormous growth of Chinese restaurants. Virtually every restaurant in the Netherlands was a customer and our relationship was one of mutual trust and respect. Although never been to China, I recognize what you bring up. Incidentally, there are many more Chinese communities than just in China. With many similarities. Thanks for this excellent video
I lived for about 10 years in China (Macau). Yes, it changed me forever too, chinese people are amazing. I miss them terribly when I´m working, because they are the best coworkers you can imagine. It is a very safe country too, we can walk anywhere nobody will harm you.I deeply love chinese people.
I love China. It’s so diverse in ways most people can’t imagine. I’m FilAm and the Chinese people and their culture is more inline with the Filipino culture than the Americans. Some Americans may seem aloof to outsiders but they’re just more humble and not as boisterous as westerners, especially outside of the larger cities.

The Americans had promised to grant independence to the Philippines if they would side with them against Spain. But after the American-Spanish war, the Americans did not honor their promise, instead they claimed Philippines for themselves, resulting in the American-Philippines war in which a quarter million Filipinos died.
When I told a guy from HK (never been to mainland) China mainland is very diverse and he laughed at me and told me I was brainwashed and only western countries are diverse, since then I never complained westerners don’t understand China 😂
The true problem that plagues better understanding of China in the Western world is the media. When the people are bombarded with negative (dramatized +biased) news almost every day, it's hard to have fair views on China. Keep doing what you do, Cyrus.

I learnt all these lessons when I lived in China and I would add one more.
The way the elderly are revered and are usually living in or nearby their own kids and grandchildren.
They take care of the kids while the parents work so not much day care and not much retirement villages like the the west.
When I came back to New Zealand I was determined to not put my parents in a home to become lonely and depressed which is immoral but very sad.

@@cmg.g6175 Maybe in the next generation, when they have more financial freedom they can spend more time with their family. My parents grew up in a China where they didn't eat on certain days. My dad lost a sibling from starvation. It's psychologically ingrain in them to never ever be poor again so they don't starve, thus they work their ass off. And that sacrifice to work hard to feed their family is done so exclusively for the family's prosperity and survival. I do agree that this doesn't apply to me anymore but they have ingrained in me to work hard and cherish any time you have with family. Its hard for us in the states to fully understand this given so much was given to us since childhood.

As a Chinese, thank you for your time in China and understanding us. What you said actually are the virtues in Chinese culture, and they didn't only exist in Chinese culture, but also in all other cultures, just with different levels of focusing. For example, family is a really focused aspect of Chinese culture, being “孝”(do good to elders, especially closed ones like parents, grandparents), is one of the most taught virtues in Confucianism. But Americans also love and respect their parents or grandparents, they simply express these feelings in simpler and more direct ways and have "smaller family" compared to Chinese. The essence of the video is that we need to have more understanding towards other cultures, and we will realize they are also people like you and me, and there would always be things to learn from.
I could also confirm about your ideas about health in China. In my family, we never go to hospital or eat any medicine if it's self-recoverable, like a cold, and try to sleep and eat good. And during my more than 20 years of life, I had only been to a hospital twice one when I was a kid and had Asthma during Beijing in the early 2000 when there were no restrictions about air quality. another when I had varicella in my teen. My parent and grandparent, which now almost 90, are similar, never eat medicine or go to hospital unless necessary. For the society, it saves resources, for yourself, it strengthens your immunity. Like any country there are surely shortcomings that should not be overlooked; but the fact remains China is developing not only so rapidly but comprehensively that there must be something right with their general approach towards development. Contrary to popular MSM impression about the Chinese government, they are much more adaptable and open to pragmatic ideas that work for all people not just the rich and powerful. Democracy should not only be procedural (voting to choose leader) but in practice (how most people can benefit from good governance). A failed 'democracy' is either plutocracy (wealthy) or oligarchy (elitist).

Hey Cyrus, I have been a subscriber since you started. Why...? Because you were the first person who spoke the exact same feelings that I experienced during my time living in China. I am Australian and I started my time in Jan 2014, I married a mainland woman after a couple of years dating, but the living life there, well I count that as full time from 2014. Everything you have said in your video today, I would have said time and time again to people who are immediately negative about China.
Some people, unfortunately though, will never change their views. I am a 30 year Veteran of our Army and have served overseas, I was not in a rear echelon position, I was out on the front line where the bullets go in two directions. It was through this experience I realised that something we were doing was wrong and over the 2001 - 04 period I was injured a couple of times, and my views on the whole thing had changed. It messed me up a bit, but it was in a UN hospital that I met my future wife. We never knew it though ;). She was just a nurse looking after me, nothing more at that time.
A lot of the people I associate with are ex military, from the Vietnam conflict to present day issues with no active service. at least 90% of them think China is the enemy, simply because of the US and Australian Governments policy about China. No amount of reasoning with them is worth it, but the others are the complete opposite and see China as our best trading partner and the governments destroying our GDP just to appease the Neo Cons in the White House.
My greatest asset are my photographs and video clips of all the places my wife and I have been to. we have traveled well off the tourist trail, to rural towns and farms, places I cannot remember until I watch the video again. It is funny having to explain that this is just a small town with half a million people, to Australians...LoL
My favourite comments are; It is all about family, if you have never been, do not make rash judgements, and the education makes us look like we are not serious about our children!

The colonial mentality continues to afflict many in Hong Kong, causing them to worship Anglo-Saxon culture while harboring disdain for any "non-Anglo" culture (including their own). Even though Hong Kong has been physically decolonized, the decolonization of the mind still needs time, in order to heal the mental wounds inflicted by the colonizer on the minds of the colonized.

I grew up with many different cultures and languages in my neighborhood as a kid and I loved it. I refuse to accept or agree with others such as our government and our media, telling me whom to hate. No, absolutely no!
There's so much beauty in the Chinese culture, traditions and so much to appreciate. I think their government really does look out for their people and do an incredible job. I can respect the differences between us and also enjoy our similarities. I will try saying "Nee-how!" and hope to build a bridge of friendship with the only local Chinese family I know in my very small town, they are very nice folks.
I'm so looking forward to experiencing China with you in the future! There are many channels I watch that do the same in Russia, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, etc. I do love the beautiful tapestry of cultures that we get to share and learn from. Thank you, as always, Cyrus...for everything. 😎✌️

Going on year 14 here in mainland China. The people overall are great, the food is amazing, and crime is very low. With that said, the government here is getting more and more heavy handed and over involving themselves in the daily lives of the people. They're also fostering a growing nationalistic sentiment among the populace (especially in the lower tier cities/less educated demographic) that is unfortunate.
I love the Han people, perhaps due to having a Chinese mother myself. But the CCP has screwed the economy (one child policy, covid, ruining trade relations) and the Chinese people deserve much much better sadly.

I went to China for the first time in 1999. I was shocked at the difference between what I thought I would experience and what I actually experienced. I had the most fantastic time there. The people were exceptional. I couldn't wait to finish my meetings and hit the streets. I walked for so many hours in Beijing. I really loved the old market. Yeah, that one, the one that I was told was over 4,000 years old. The old market I visit here is about 20 years old. Although I had zero Chinese language I had absolutely no problem communicating. The first thing I learned was they were exactly the same as me. I never felt safer walking around a city as I did in China. I can only imagine how much better it is today 23 years later. Thanks for the video. Couldn't agree with everything you said more.

During my 1st trip to my mother's home " gucun", we were praised for speaking so many languages. We, ourselves were jaw dropped during that visit which will forever be etched into my memory. As a British citizen, when I talk to family or old friends in the UK, somehow they assume that I must have been brainwashed in some kind of government camp if I say anything good about my life in China. I had the opportunity to learn English and study abroad, and I was appalled at how many Westerners (but not all) have a negative perception of China. Even after I bring up China's achievements, some Westerners (not all) just laugh at me, called me brain wash or tell me to _"Go Back to China!",_ even though many of them never actually set foot in China themselves.
Even some old Chinese Americans (second generation of immigrants)also believed it.

Don't lecture Americans about racism. We are one of the most diverse nations on earth. When I see videos of crowds in Chinese cities, I never see Africans and few people of other races. Chinese immigrants have thrived in the USA.
I think what's holding people back from understanding China is their economic system: Socialism with "Chinese characteristics", there's so much stigma against socialism and communism, so people fear and disdain China because of it
Those of us who knew and experienced communism in Eastern Europe during the 70s and 80s, wouldn't say that China is communist. There's a world of difference.
Communism is elites /capitalists affraid of. They will do anything possible to make sure the comnunism fail.

It’s hard to save money in the US when we have medical debt, education debt, high cost of housing and transportation. When I traveled in China I felt their society was doing a much better job of providing for their hard working people. I didn’t see homelessness, drug use, graffiti, or the violence that is becoming the norm in the US. China is doing something right. A lot of things right. We can learn from China.

I have been living in both western country and China over 30 years. I find that more westerners prefer to separate from others by culture. But Chinese people are more like to share their culture with others. Chinese people like to share their happiness with family, friends, and colleagues together, no matter where the ethnic area the people are from.

My life took a different turn, I immigrated from Macedonia to the United States and only recently took up on the opportunity to start learning Chinese. I was there to visit in 94 then 01, 02 then lived there from 04 to 12. I had yearly visit every year until now (minus 20-21 due to pandemic). I can see with my own eyes how China developed since 94. Damn, my own country was better than China back then, now it lacked behind by ten years… by living there in China, my views had changed a lot just like you.
I've been going to China every year since I first met my wife. Prior to my first visit my perception was of a country still stuck in the 60's because that was the image projected by Western media. I was shocked at how modern and cosmopolitan Chinese cities were. The expanse and growth of the country and it's cities has been incredible. I was amazed by how much would change in a period of 12 months, and just like many other Asian countries they've embraced new technology and implemented it everywhere. I would go as far to say that the majority of Chinese cities are more advanced with far better infrastructure than Western cities.
building modern cities they have done - that's what foreign investment (about 90% of the GDP at one time) can do. But having shiny new buildings and having civilized people in those buildings doesn't come at the same time Their society is still years behind their infrastructure. Now that their economy is failing and continuing to deflate and business and capitol is fleeing.....it will be difficult to continue to develop society to be more civilized. It will descend the other way for a while now....

I have lived and worked in 12 countries outside my native Sweden. China is one of them and I enjoyed China massively together with my wife. My favourite cities include Dubai, Tokyo, Shanghai and Istanbul. Now back in Sweden after some 30 years as an expat I feel somewhat under stimulated , still content through.
Shanghai is amazing I agree. Hope the CCP don't ruin it.

If most American politicians and elites can think like Cruys, the United States will always be great. As a Chinese, I understand the goal of our government very well. We don’t want to be the hegemony of the world. We want to conquer the stars and the sea together with all countries in the world. Because our earth is also very small compared to the universe. Let us people all over the world work together so that everyone can live a stable and good life, no more poverty, no more wars.
You are so right. I am Danish and if you think that Americans get to hear that their country is the greatest in the world, you should try going to Denmark... best health care, best schools, best social services, best democracy... bestbestbest. But after having left Denmark 2 years ago to live in South Korea with my family, I realized that Danes are living under a massive reality distortion field. Here in Korea I have experienced better medical care, beautiful culture, rich history, healthier diet, focus on family and good family values, respect for the elderly and foreigners... all things, apart from the history part, that have become hard to come by in "modern" Denmark.
Denmark has always been described by our media as the happiest country
I recently went on my first trip to China and had a wonderful time. The locals were incredibly kind and generous, often sharing fruit or preparing meals for me. I spent most of my time in the Hunan area and am already looking forward to my next visit.
