To add even more confusion, what you refer to MS-III with the roundy shape is what I had at the time in Italy, but it was called MS-II like the one showed at 0:50, it was sold with Alex Kidd preinstalled and came with 2 joy pads, light gun but no 3d glasses.
I used to have the Super Compact with Sonic. The wireless antenna was problematic, I spent months having frustrating plays u til I just decided to plug the cable directly onto the antenna slot. The best feature about the Super Compact was that, by the console being a huge joystick, the pause button was very accessible.
Well, the only thing about these Master Systems without a cartridge slot being sold here in Brazil is that they're not really Master Systems, they're just a repackaged and rebranded version of the At Games consoles that everyone hates. They use emulation to run the games and they do it very, very poorly.
I am from Brazil and I have bought the sega Master System evolution and it arrived in the same day this vídeo came out, such a coincidence! It's incredible that we're still able to buy one of these officially in 2022.
Fun fact: Tec Toy made a Master System with a built in DVD player! I forgot it's name but it doesn't have cartridge inserts and it's another 200 in 1 type of consoles.
Its my country time again. Last week I went to a shopping mall and saw an actual blue master system without cartridge slot, being sold at a retail store... I think it was this last one with sonic in it. Also, I've been told that those mega drive-like controllers only work on Master Systems. You can't use them on actual MDs =(
@@Stevie-J Nope. As Diego says down below, "they're not really Master Systems, they're just a repackaged and rebranded version of the At Games consoles that everyone hates. As a kid who scoffed at NES until the 90s and had Sega because my best friends did... and we were "real" gamers who enjoyed games with superior graphics/sound/scrolling whether or not NES kids found them "fun"....... I just really wanna believe that for nostalgia or whatever else, the Master System is just the defacto video game system forever over there. Then again, here I am still refusing to move past my PS3.
I have my master system 3 working until today, perfect. I bought it in 2005, with 105 games in memory and a cartridge slot. It never broke and lasted many hours of play. Your games are more colorful than those of nes. Great library.
I had a master system II (the one released in Europe) and I loved it. What really blew my mind was seeing a Master System III compact at a store in my country next to the EFFING DREAMCAST. Until your video I thought it was some kind of a fever dream and that console never existed XD.
This was very interesting as all your topics are. I find it crazy that there is a version of the Sega Master System still on sale to this day. I think I need to get me the pink one haha
@@greenkoopa Yeah, sadly our country is one of the most closed ines in terms of both importing and exporting due do customs and old laws and taxes. 7:25 - Looking forward to that Zeebo video whenever you get around to it. An enjoyable video this was and I'm unsurprised that the numerous Master System variants were a result of TecToy. It was nice to hear and see all of them presented here and hilarious to hear you struggle not to laugh as you talked about the Master System Girl.

That's epic that the Sega Master System is still being made and sold in Brazil. Also as more advanced games were made for the Sega Master System they had to evolve the controller to 6 buttons.
That's great there's a Master System girl now. You seem to be the type of person interested in gaming so it's awesome you now have a console that's catered to you and can finally start playing games! 😊
Resident Evil 4 on Switch needs gyro controls! It’s unplayable with its original control scheme. That’s an input method that did not age well. Great Stuff, as always!
Brazilian greetings! Of the countless Master System launched in Brazil there is still a portable version with LCD color screen launched in Brazil. What will be the next release, because as long as Tectoy exists, there will be Master System and Mega Drive forever!
I actually appreciate the fact that tectoy released versions of the master system with traditional mega drive controllers the Master System has a pretty bad D-pad IMO personally I play the games on the Retron 5 with a 6 button pad myself
The Japanese Master System was different from the Mark III and Western Master System. In Japan the Mark III had an FM sound module attachment one could buy which gave it much better audio capabilities. The Japanese Master System had this built in, rather than as a separate accessory.
You’re on to something with the half laughing and talking Mrs Decade. I know it sounds like a super weird compliment but it really is something to consider…it somehow makes you seem more relatable or friendly. Idk how to explain it but it was definitely something that popped out in a good way.
I was quite jealous of the built in Alix kid game in the later Master Systems The Slug Maize Game from the mk1 wasn't very good. The Sonic Master System Theme Song will be forever burned into my brain.
I had a friend who owned the pink "for girls" master system. And he was a boy. Progressive indeed, lol. The wireless image transmission was really that terrible. We had to plug it directly into the TV, and since the batteries run out quickly, the best thing was to plug it into a power outled. So it really wasn't that wireless at all.
I’d love to take a look at those TecToy mobile ports, they can actually push the limits of the hardware sometimes and there’s some decent titles on there if I remember correctly.
One big difference with the Master System III Compact vs any PAL-B/NTSC version, is that it can play some Tec Toy games that can't be played on non-Brazilian consoles due to memory size. Sonic Blast and Street Fighter II' are two examples.
11:02 ainda tenho o meu Master System 3 com 105 jogos, faz 18 anos que tenho ele. Essas versões do Master System Collection são muito boas em questão de hardware (exceto as versões a partir de 120 jogos que removeram a entrada de cartucho)
Very interesting video Lady Decade. So interesting to see things are happening in gaming industry((even today) that of of us don't see without videos like this
I definitely got confused but gladly you cleared it up with the best explanation of everything. Thanks. I definitely learned something today!!! Good stuff as always
Stefano Arnhold from TecToy has said in an interview that the decision to ditch the external power adapter and move the power supply circuit into the console was a cost-based design decison by TecToy, which was first criticized by Sega and then coppied by them when they released the Saturn. So I assume the international Master System II was based on the brazilian Master System III Compact, and not the other way around?
That was a mess in Brazil in late 90’s with all of these master system consoles. At least they had different models. Tec Toy had done the only white and skeleton Saturn for Brazil, really cool, as you know they are a rebrand from the Japanese models
I 100% completed Super Mario Advance 2 Super Mario World as a kid, which means getting every single Dragon coin in every single level, as well as the usual 96 exits (at least I think it’s 96). Nowadays I find the physics infuriating and can barely get to Cheese Bridge area. I certainly don’t have the time or patience to do a 100% run, and technically to 100% the cartridge you would also need to get a ludicrously high score in the Mario Bros arcade game, which I could never do.
Regarding the Sega Master System Handy. All 27 games are Master System games! However one of them is the 20 in 1 Cartridge which was released by Tec Toy only in Brazil. They could have just classed that as 1 game maybe or not included it! I bought this is at the time solely for Woody Pop which was not even released outside of Japan on the MS. Strange array of games on it really!
Absolutely love this video👍 Grew up with speccy and master system although I'm pretty sure it had hang-on pre installed not alex kidd. Great stuff as always 👌
So it sounds like Sega loved to saturate the market with tons of consoles and confuse their customers as much as possible over a decade before they went belly up in the hardware market. Honestly, it's shocking they didn't get laughed out of the hardware market because of this before they did.
Wow. The history of the Master system puts the incredibly bad choices with the CD/32x/Saturn into perspective. That was always Sega’s way of doing things. They were lucky they had any success for that brief period of time
Wow, Brazil continues to be wild with the SMS. While a JP Master System may be the same as a Mark III overall, it has a couple major differences. It has a dedicated 3D Glasses port, instead of needing to take up the card slot. The coolest difference is having built-in FM synth, like its successor would have. The chip is otherwise in an add-on module for the Mark III. Unfortunately both features are completely absent from western variants.
I still own my Master System Super Compact from back in the day... The antenna was okay, but the wired connection was slightly better, with less interference. The worst thing about it IMO was the power switch, which was really tiny and practically required long nails or sharp objects to be used. It also deformed easily, becoming even harder to use the more you played.
I'm surprised lady decade hasnt posted a video yet about pokemon on game gear and what it would of been like and how it would be today for Sega and pokemon and how nintendo wouldnt of had pokemon
