What is Acrylic Ink?
Acrylic Ink is a product that can be used in a lot of different ways and can be used to try out new expressions and play around with. Acrylic Ink can, for example, be used to create cool effects in your paintings that have a lot of similarities to watercolor, to paint with a brush or to use an airbrush.
Acrylic Ink is an acrylic-based painting technique that is also very fluid. This allows you to play around with its watercolor-like effect. In addition, this technique has the same pigmented effect as acrylic, which opens up the possibilities to get the best of both worlds when it comes to watercolor and acrylic. In this video we show you how acrylic ink can be used on a canvas to create an orange ring by mixing acrylic ink and water. The mixture of paint and water is first brushed onto a canvas into a ring and then acrylic ink is added in any way around the ring, to add beautiful details.
To paint an orange ring with Acrylic Ink you need this:
- Water
- Acrylic Ink
- Canvas

Here's how to paint an orange ring with Acrylic Ink on canvas:
Step 1: Mix acrylic ink with water in a cup
Start by filling up a cup with drops of water and add a few drops of acrylic ink of any shade. Here you can add enough color so that the texture becomes liquid but the color still maintains a nice opacity.
Step 2: Paint a ring with a brush
Take a canvas and place it lying down. If you place it standing you will get a runny effect on the paint due to how loose the consistency of the acrylic ink mixture is. Use a large brush that can pick up a lot of liquid and dip it into the mixture. Paint a ring on your canvas. Here we also use the back of the brush handle to pull the color out from certain parts of the ring. This creates cool details that give the ring a lively and moving effect.
Step 3: Add more shades
After this you can add another shade to the painting. We did this with the help of the pipette included in the lid of the acrylic ink bottle. Add a stripe of a new color to the inner edge of the ring and spread this out using a smaller brush and water. Here you can also play around a lot and see what you like. Play around and see if you can create some exciting patterns or give the painting extra dynamic through these details. You can also add more shades outside the ring using the eyedropper. Try it out and see what catches your interest.
Step 4: Details
We also chose to splash some gold paint on the canvas to add detail and depth. We did this by mixing acrylic ink with water inside a cup, dipping a brush into this loose mixture and then splashing the paint onto the board.

Steg 1: Blanda acrylic ink och vatten i en kopp
Börja med att fylla upp en kopp med droppar vatten och addera några droppar acrylic ink av valfri nyans. Här kan du tillsätta så mycket färg att konsistensen är flytande men något fyllig och så att du gillar opaciteten på färgen.
Steg 2: Måla ring med pensel
Ta fram en canvas och placera den liggande. Om du ställer den upp kommer du att få en rinnande effekt på grund av hur lös konsistensen av acrylic ink-blandningen är.
Steg 3: Lägg till fler nyanser
Efter detta kan du addera ännu en nyans till tavlan. Detta gjorde vi med hjälp av pipetten som medföljer i acrylic ink flaskans lock. Du kan även lägga till fler nyanser utanför ringen med hjälp av pipetten. Lek runt och se vad som fångar ditt intresse.
Steg 4: Detaljer
Vi valde även att skvätta på lite guldfärg på tavlan för att addera detaljer och djup. Detta gjorde vi genom att blanda acrylic ink med vatten i en kopp, doppa en pensel i denna lösa blandning och sedan skvätta ut färgen på tavlan.
