    Wow never knew LP did that for this event 9:12. 8400 revs from the 304 is massive especially before the 91 rule changes.

      Love it, and that's a group a engine, and therefore factory block, heads and most of the internals and injection. In 1991 Hrt revved their VN group A engine to 9000rpm at the Adelaide Grand Prix support race.

      The sounded so sweet back then the V8's. Engines weren't rev or CR limited like the 7500 rubbish they have today. As Richard Wells said by the end of 1991 those V8s were screaming!

    Just reading the Perkins Engineering book "THE CARS 1986-2008 " which spiked my search for this race coverage. A great win through meticulous preparation, speed and PERKINS RELIABILY against the odds of fast turbos and AWD's

      Larry should have won Bathurst the same year but Thomas managed to turn a big lead into a deficit

    Amazing hearing Murray speak about Australian subjects!

      We agree! Something out of the ordinary from what you'd normally hear from Murray.

      Yes Murray was a bit pompous, but he certainly knows motorsport. His dad was an Isle of Man TT racer so he loved motorcycle racing as well 🧊

      @@colinstewart1432 Murray wasn't pompous...he was just Murray....loved his motorsport...F1 mainly...but had a deep affection for tin tops....basically anything with an engine that you could race...!

    Unbelievable bad luck for Johnson and Bowe with the Sierra puking it’s guts out on the penultimate lap.

      ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with bad luck. those sierra cosworth engines just where horribly unreliable. probably the most unreliable engine ever built. those cars would have won everything in touring car racing (until the gtr32 appeared of course) if they would not break down all the time. the sierra cosworth lost countless victories because of its crappy engine. bathurst, 24h nürburgring and spa....and so on. countless DNFs because of broken engine blocks, head gaskets, turbochargers.....and so on. the sierras were relatively fast. but unheard of unreliable. and the chassis/suspension was crap as well. without its turbo engine the sierra wouldnt have one a single race.

    I wonder if Perkins complained to the stewards about his own car being to dominant.

    Hang on, where are the Falcons?

    • @woopimagpie
      @woopimagpie ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There were no Falcons in the Group A era because Ford had withdrawn the V8 in Australia (in 1982 I think it was) so the Ford-based teams all had to run Mustangs and then Sierras. They could have homologated the 6 cylinder Falcon but everyone knew it would never have been able to compete, and Ford had withdrawn all factory support anyway. The Falcon made a return with the start of V8 Supercars but that wasn't until 1993.
