    My tip for sleep is to put aside my Atheism and pray. I pray to whatever energy there is out there that is healing and calming. The other tip is truly embracing the idea of radical acceptance. Radical acceptance is powerful when I truly feel it. Mostly that feeling comes in glimmers.

    This would help people dealing with withdrawal especially insomnia -
    I was prescribed 0.5mg xanax after a surgery and I took it longer than prescribed. Unknowingly I stopped taking it thinking I no longer need it. And the days to follow were a pure hell. I was anxious and I couldn't get any sleep. I barely slept for a week which made my anxiety worse. Thankfully, I am into ayurveda so I researched and took wintercherry(ashwagandha), Indian pennywort(brahmi) and valerian root(tagara) extract. And I finally got 8 hours of good sleep that night and woke up with no anxiety. I hope this helps anyone dealing with withdrawals.

    I believe I experience the exact same thing! It has something to do with the brain's transition from sleep to waking, clearly. And that the damage to our brains is reflecting a dysfunction, still. Not fully healed yet.
    But, keep going! Don't go back!

    Hello all. I wonder does anyone else experiences this? Waking up filled with what I can only describe as absolute DREAD . It's like everything is hopeless and bad and threatening and there is no future. It is like everyone I care about is about to go away for ever. I sometimes will be trembling for a few seconds. It's torture. This sensation lasts til I get up and distract myself by reading or just wandering around the house. No one believes me that it is so horrible, but it is. I'm in my third year off antidepressants and occasional use of Ativan (when it got really bad). I was prescribed them for 25 years. I honestly think the prescription drugs contributed to this. I don't know 😕.

      Damn ladies. Seems like allot of women are on benzos. I have the same issue with instant depression when I wake up. Dread of the day. Once I get out of the house I'm usually a little better. I've been prescribed opiates for years for cancer. They have tried to get me to try benzos multiple times and I did before I realized how bad they were. But I think it's the fact that you can't just stop taking these medications without going through hell. I feel for you ladies

  • @louisejessup3994

    Brilliant Angie, I was the same only sleeping about 20 miss to one hour a night. The meds I xame off were very strong tricyclics which were the core of my treatment for 40 years plus loads else. It did take at least 11 months but then slowly crept up. Now 2 years off, I am proud that most nights I sleep for about 6 hours with no meds at all!!!!
    One thing that helped early on was not too stress about not getting it at night but to go across 24 hours and if you feel you can sleep some other time then go for it because it's mire about resting and getting what you can as you are able rather than getting anxious overnight. Over time as you begin to sleep you can slowly shift back to night time. Your body will naturally return overtime to a more usual pattern.
    I also so echo that radical acceptance bit, that alone just helped so much, not to fight it but allow and accept this process is so hard and you will feel rubbish for a good long timeXx

  • @privateperson5769
    @privateperson5769 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Thank you for this . I have not listened to all of it , but I like the "radical acceptance" of "you won't sleep" . It is so true...I have had insomnia for weeks and weeks, months...years... tapering and when I was on them and not tapering. I just need to be like , yep, this is tapering, I don't sleep. Accept it instead of fighting it and wasting energy on frustration. lucky for me I do not work, so I can sleep in the next day . I have to get some sleep otherwise I get very run down and sick. I don't know how anyone can hold down a job with Benzo Insomnia, incredibly tough.

    I’m really struggling. I’m hitting 11 months and I got hit with a massive insomnia wave. I haven’t had this since 7 months ago. But I’m having all these intense surges and awful brain sensations. What the crap!! I’m so upset and scared and cant stop sobbing. A lot of impending doom type feeling. Just feels so alone. I’m praying it passes but I’m so scared shit is going to get worse. I’ve been in this wave 10 days but the past 2 days it has gotten 1000x worse. Im praying this gets better. Im holding on to that hope because there is no other option but to hold on. Great video Angie, a lot of what you talk about are things that I have tried along the way, some helped and other things didn’t work for me. I think the most important thing for me was that if you could not sleep was rest. Rest was still better then being up and around. I would lay in my recliner with my blanket in the dark and just breathe. All we can do is the best we can when we are on this journey.
    At 7 years off this month I have been getting more sleep then ever. The weather is also changing here in northern Ohio and I suppose that retiring the first of August has helped too.
    Thanks for all you do!

    • @AngiePeacockMSW
      @AngiePeacockMSW  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Excellent to hear! Yes, sometimes certain things will work for a period of time and then they stop working all together. Even just laying there and breathing IS doing something even if it doesn’t feel like it. You could call that mindfulness or present moment awareness even. Or radical accepting the situation and that being all you could do.

    This made me vividly remember what I’d blissfully forgotten- insomnia after opiate cold turkey.
    I used ASMR, I listened to University Courses in Roman and Greek mythology & stuff like that,
    Body scans, yoga Nidra,
    I counted backwards from 300 and visualized each number, you can add color, shape, movement… all to distract.
    I listened to police radio scanner.
    And now I have a long list of people I listen to to fall asleep listening to…

    Thanks for making this video. I can relate and agree with a lot of what you've said. I'm 16 months off antidepressants after taking them for 12 years. My sleep isn't too bad, but I have other issues. Videos like this make me feel less alone. I know I'm not alone, but sometimes it feels like I am. Thanks again.
    What helps me sleep is my night time routine where I wash my face, put on face cream, brush my teeth, etc. I keep my room dark and cool. I use white noise to cancel other annoying noises like my cats cleaning themselves which sometimes seems to activate my fight or flight response. Meditating helps me relax and calm down as well. It's weird because I feel like I've only been able to successfully meditate off the meds. Baths with Epsom salt seem to help me as well. Definitely a lot of good suggestions in the video.

    This might help somebody (SUPLIMENTS).
    First of all you need to get over that sleep anxiety and to be able to fall asleep even if it’s for half an hour.
    As supliments I use
    1. Taurine 6g- try less (THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOR ME)
    2. 1000 mg magnesium (bisglycenate)
    3. CBD OIL one teaspoon
    I take these right before sleep (not before I want to fall asleep but before the hour I usualy fall asleep). I heard that CBN oil is better so experiment if you can.

    Something that has helped me is taking the amino acids taurine, L-theanine and glycine. Even some forms of magnesium are good too, mainly magnesium glycinate and malate respectively. Then another incredibly good thing to have friends to talk to, as well as healthcare professionals who support you can help you through withdrawal from both benzodiazepines and alcohol. The mentioned amino acids plus magnesium also have some protective effect against withdrawal-induced grand mal seizures, which are a risk if one has taken benzodiazepines or drunk alcohol in high doses for a long time.

I still have not gotten my sleep back. I can either fall asleep but wake up in the middle of night, or can't get back to sleep. Sleep Hygiene has not helped. Angie it is so nice seeing you live your best life. You’re amazing.
      I can usually get to sleep, just can’t stay asleep. It’s the waking up that is a huge problem for me. I can sometimes get back to sleep. The Breethe app is one I use to try to get back to sleep. However when 7 am hits I’m a mess. I can barely function through the day. Can’t sit or settle. I’m having a hard time with acceptance I think. I’m going to check out your recommendation and try to listen to Radical Acceptance? Was that it.
      My fears greatly revolve around eating and my stomach issues. They are crippling me. I would love to hear if you had these and what you did. I've been dealing with a small xanax addiction that has being on and off for the last maybe 3 months. I know I can shake it and get back to normal if I just persevere, but my multiple sleepless nights in a row and literally debilitating anxiety is what brought me here today. I just purchased Gaba, Saffron, Ashwaghanda, and Moringa supplements in a panic to try to correct what is happening with my body/brain. What is your take on these supplements?

    Just about to start my second withdrawal after extreme usage daily for 3 months. I was clean 6 years and started again after some lifecrisis happened.
    I'm absolutely horrified that I will go through another episode like back in 2018. It was 6 months of pure hell, psychosis, panic attacks etc I couldn't handle another one.
    But then I had been doing them daily for 5 years, this time only 3 months so I hope I will not get it as bad. But I'm dreading it. I feel it every morning now the sweats, flu symptoms, panic attacks, anxiety etc
    I don't know when I will do the jump.
    Problem is I self medicate and have to leave urine tests now etc for work so om utterly fucked. They don't give out benzos in my country easily, not even when I told them last time I did them daily for 5 years and I was almost dying from withdrawal.
    Wish me luck

    • @AngiePeacockMSW
      @AngiePeacockMSW  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    • @pellman87
      @pellman87 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AngiePeacockMSW Thanks for the answer. That would be optimal, but they very rarely give you benzos in my country, even for acute withdrawal. You get Atarax (Hydroxizin) or Theralen (Alimemazin) which I dread both. The do nothing but give me bad creeps in the legs and absolutely zero against the withdrawal.
      My blggest wish would be to get a long taper on diazepam, from a doctor. But that would never happen here sadly.

    My input is be very careful with buddist precepts, they mostly are about self, try helping others and be kind to all, and definately worth giving up television if you can, constant bombardment about self, and desiring things you don’t actually need, even while watching this video , I think 4 ads came up about what I consider are doubtful treatments.......then try something novel, go and look at a fossil of a comb Jellie, then look at one today, they are exactly the same, as all fossils are, the same powers that sends people to war , wasting Trillions of dollars, just as they do teaching and financing University’s and academics teaching evolution , when the fossil record and evidence shows nothing has ever “ evolved”. The most certain scientific fact on earth is that life comes from life, try telling someone that your computer made itself, which evolution teaches everything made itself, it’s just absurd! Those same powers
    Are the ones that have allowed all these very dangerous drugs to be accepted , and allowed lies that mental illness is a “ chemical imbalance “ to proliferate.
