    I had the great pleasure of riding in one of these “Amphicars” once! They’re lousy boats and lousy cars, but an absolute blast nonetheless!

      And they are notorious for sinking in even slightly bad weather, taking entire loads of tourists with them.

      @@NoJusticeNoPeace A duck boat has nothing in common with the Amphicar other than they are both amphibious. Do you really think that you could fit 17 people in that thing?

      @@NoJusticeNoPeace This would be less surprising today, as many major cities have old DUKWs (now called “Duck Tours”) that provide tours of their respective cities. They aren’t the same kind of vehicle as this amphibious car, but the concept is the same.

    The "Amphicar" was a novelty, but it performed terribly on land and worse in water. Rust was a serious problem, which is why there aren't many left. You also had to re-lubricate everything after taking it in water (which involved removal of the rear seat). You could buy both a better car and a motorboat for about the same cost. They make better ones today but they cost more than my house, and for that price I would want it to fly.

    The response of the last guy was so funny, _don't give me no stuff_ . Present day people would likely have shot off a pile of expletives. The world has progressed so much since this video was shot, but I can't say that *everything* has been an improvement. However, it didn't appear as though anyone tried to tell her to stop or dive in & help her, half nuts as she was!

  • @annonimiss6422

    Until the reveal, I thought both guys in each scene were being pranked. I had been a little confused while watching it up until that point because it seemed like the same guy was in each scene, but because I didn't go back to check, and because his acting was so on point, (and probably also because I was really hoping there were actually two different guys each time,) I just told myself (convinced myself?) that it wasn't the same guy.
    So when I saw that he was in fact part of the candid camera crew, I was kind of let down. He did do a great job though!
    Anyway, what I'm really aiming to express is that it would be really fun to watch if you do this again without inserting any actor besides whoever is in the car.
    I realized now that you probably wanted to have two people there, which I understand made it funnier to watch the non-actor, so maybe you can do it only when there are at least two people fishing.
    Also, I had the thought that, if you do decide to use this prank again for more content, I wonder if the reactions would be even better if the driver pretends to start sinking (or at least to not be able to drive farther) at first.

    Was a nice idea, but they had a problem; rust. Yes, you heard correctly. Someone went to all the trouble of designing, building, marketing, and selling, an amphibious car, and they didn't think about the rust problem.

      There were a lot of problems with it. It was very unsafe for one -- especially in water.

    • @HobbyOrganist
      @HobbyOrganist ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds exactly like something someone at Ford or GM would do- build crap that lasts long enough for the last payment to be made before rusting thru.
      Ive read of one car that the engine was so poorly situated you couldnt replace the two rear spark plugs without pulling the engine out- they were too close to the firewall or something and you couldnt get them out.
      I had a Concorde, and some idiot designer thought it was a great idea to install the battery underneath, so you had to remove the right front wheel, open up an access panel, and reach over sharply to the right to get to it stupedist design Ive ever seen!
