    i can't get enough of the film style you've chosen! it's so awesome! it's like I'm in the 70s again but the clarity is totally 2017!

    If I can ever bear to part with my MXT, it'll be for an XP Deus. It's 2017, and they're one of the few that seem to realize this.

      If XP were fully aware of that they would be concentrating on a Multifrequency coil. Something they've yet to bring to market. Cycling through single frequencies is nice, but leaves us handicapped in many situations where multi thrives, which is anywhere from medium to harsh ground and saltwater.
      The wireless tech is nice, but what purpose does it serve? Is it really an advance? Underwater submersion still requires a hard wired coil. Wireless leaves us at a disadvantage again without their antenna kit, which still experiences a degraded signal and erratic behavior.
      Wireless ability between pinpointer and machine is nice, but here it's limited to audio, with no discrimination adoption. Minelab it seems is checking all the boxes we'd want a forward looking company to be checking, followed by First Texas (Fisher, Teknetics) as we are about to see within the next year or so. Keep your eye on them.

    I bought one of these at the recommendation of a friend for use in the hot ground of Va. I got rid of it after one hunt, I had to run it with the tail cap removed just to hear it!!! Nowhere near the volume of the Garrett Carrot, and since I use either a CTX-3030 or GPX-5000 the connectivity was useless to me.

    Just got a deus.. Trying to figure out how to run the pin pointer.. Its unpaired itself a few times out detecting.. I guess I should have read the manual before using
    it..... Oh wait I tried. I cant read it cause its way too small.. lol I like the pinpointer.. Somehow I adjusted the strength on it by accident. I almost have to be touching the target now.. Just wanted to say I like your review.. Fun and informative.. Id buy one now if I didnt already have one. Stay safe brother! Kevin

    $200? You have to be kidding? My Harbor Freight Centech cost $17 and with all of my mods it only added another $3.00 to the cost. It now has 3"+ range, vibration alert, on/off switch, and new momentary switch and a new sensitivity knob. It works great and I have no idea why anyone would spend that kind of money on a pinpointer. I mean no disrespect as I really enjoy your videos and I have learned a lot from them.

    Wow, what a bummer. I saw a club member post that they were getting one a few weeks back and I just assumed that since it linked to the Deus it would pinpoint with tone ID. What a major disappointment to learn that it does not! What's the point? I cut my detecting "teeth" with a Minelab SE Pro and soon after got the inline X-1 probe with Tone ID. Upgrade several years after to the eTrac and continue to use the x-1 probe with it. Tone ID pin pointing saves so much time and I refuse to detecting without it. I did not even consider upgrading to the CTX303 b/c of this. Minelab better get its act together when it releases its next model.

    I was just about to say that I wish there was a good quality pinpointer with Bluetooth output to a Bluetooth headset. The problem with makers of detectors not wanting to add discrimination to a pinpointer when they also sell detectors is that they don't want beginners to opt for only buying a pinpointer to start out, instead of getting a detector and pinpointer. Then they may discover how it is perfectly suited to use alone and in the very many limited spaces which are yet to be explored by them, such as on either side of an old road or trail, under bleachers, at walkways from the street to a house or in tilled soil where the soil can continue to be turned over and rechecked to compensate for the pinpointer's limited depth.

    Thanks for the review. I have used Garrett, Minelab, Whites, fisher, And Makro pin pointers. This one is next on my hit list. I have been using a Deus for about 2 years solid now. I just upgraded to the v4.0 software. It this is as rugged as the rest of the Deus, I'm in! For now though, I'll have to get by with my TRX and Makro.
    Thanks and I will definitely hit TM up for one of these in the next few months.

      It's a great pinpointer for sure. The CTX needs to have a wireless version or the Deus needs to up the game with target ID. Then we'd really have a perfect pair.

    How did we ever find stuff in the past? Well, We got good at eye, hand coil, coordination. 1980's. Forums, nice descriptions of coins we found. Then the techies and a digital camera, Great! pictures. Pin pointers, big shovels, how can you miss and hack a coin up? Video, 2 way radio, head lamps, gold testing kits, night lights! Amazing. But when you get right down to it, it all does nothing unless you get good with the detector. did yo rest against the TRX?

    No, the best pinpointer ever made is the Sunray X-1 inline probe for Minelab FBS machines. It's a shame Sunray stopped making them and refuse to develop something similar for the CTX3030.

      WarEmblem64 X1 is the best! Totally agree. I have one for my etrac. I have a deus also and use a Garrett AT...feels like I'm trying to watch a video on a flip phone from 15 years ago...it's just not as easy as the X1!

    • @dirtpickingusa8786
      @dirtpickingusa8786 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I started detecting with an SE Pro and soon after got the X-1, upgraded to the eTrack later and have not considered upgrading since. The reason why Ralph from Sunray stopped making the Minelab X-1 probes is because Minelab upped the price on the upper shaft to a point where he could not make the probes for a profit. Also, they made the coil tech for the CTX so proprietary that he could not create an inline probe for it. Now that Coiltek has made an after market coil for it, perhaps there is hope. I hate to say it, being a Minelab "lifer" but I think they did these things on purpose, to edge out people. Of course I am also convinced that they designed the CTX3030 so that is scrambles nearby eTracs so us eTrac owners would want to switch up to the CTX. Paranoid much?! Why yes I am!

    Can you help me with something that's been bugging me for a while? What's the actual difference between a high end and a cheap detector? Is it the quality of the components alone? Programming of the software? Number of turns on the coils? Mystical shaman magic? Something else? What makes a $2000 detector worth that much? What makes a $200 detector bad? Thanks in advance!

    • @DrTones24k
      @DrTones24k  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Greg, that's a great question. These days it mostly comes down to software, specifically how fast the recovery speed is (the time it takes for the detector to finish making a sound until it acquire another target) and also the type of frequency response the machine has. Some machines average on multiple frequencies at once to provide adequate reactions to various sized targets at varying depths. Processing multiple frequencies takes more computing power. Also some high end machines have built in memory that allows users to store multiple programs that are designed for their specific hunting conditions. Some lower end detectors might have as little as one sound for all types of targets while others have multiple tones for distinguishing different metals more accurately along with assigning numbers to the tones. Whole lots a stuff

    • @whitewolf8758
      @whitewolf8758 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Greg Webster i am in the process of learning the differences as you are too. one big thing i have been told by several salespeople that keep coming up is that it seems that the more expensive ones will be able to read a target deeper than of those cheaper ones. so he set up examples and said here are two great machines which both have water proof control boxes one which was the garrett at pro for $700 and the minelab ctx 3030 for $2300 was the depth of the target difference which the at pro reached 6-7 inches and the ctx reached 17-18 inches. he said its also how much you want to spend and how much more fancy stuff you want on the machine. so for the option there im leaning towards the ctx because of depth and also i can dive with this box up to 200 feet if im not mistaken. another help with this option is tbe digital readout while diving because i am hard of hearing and all other detectors dont have read outs but headphones for sound. the sales
      guy said i only can give you the education on these units and it woumd be up ti me to decide which i buy. i am new at this too! hopefully i got this all right. any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Your video is incorrect stating that you can change the settings on the pinpointer by going to the menu. You can only modify the settings on program #7, integration with the Deus detector. You cannot change the other 7 programming modes, nor can you modify the levels or any other setting on programs 1-6, only program 7, which is wireless integration.
    The screen you showed, stating that you can modify these settings with the Deus display are incorrect, other than wireless integration.
    I don't think you played with the MI-6 pointer enough after getting it, to fully know the program and do a video on it. It only led to false information. I got an MI-6, based on this video, and a couple of others. I regret buying it, solely based on the fact you cannot program it via the keypad and adjust the other settings. I also regret buying it, because it made me upgrade to Deus 4.0, and I lost my favorite program on the Deus. Now, the iron readout and display, with the same basic programs, do not act the same. I am once again digging endless fields of bottle caps, pull tabs and can't tell if an item is deep and large, or just trolling me on the surface. Might take some getting use to, but I updated the Deus on Friday, tested it out quite a bit Friday night, and yesterday.. now, Sunday is here, and just don't want to run out and try it again. Shame.

    • @mrbrent62
      @mrbrent62 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would assume and I'm not a scientist, that just the shape of the pin pointer doesn't allow it to get enough information to get a VDI number A detector coil is being passed over the object and taking measurements the double D is a good example you are swinging it over the object.. Also they would need to integrate all the electronics and a computer to discriminate in the pinpointer. Last but not least would be the price-point. It has to be in line with the competition. If they had one which cost $500 not as many people would buy it. Also they usually expect that you would have done this already with your metal detector and are using this to simply find the object.
