Great video. I love MAIN but it's hard for me to add more shares at the moment as expensive as it is. But as well as it's done for me and as safe as it seems to be, I need to bite the bullet and keep grabbing shares as I can. I also love CSWC and was surprised how low it was in your rankings. I'll still keep buying more of it. My only other BDC is HRZN and I've been ok with it but the share price drop lately has me concerned. Apparently I don't see something the market does so I'm trying to figure out what is going on before putting more into it.
Thanks so much for the video! Still a newbie in the BDC space so your coverage is very much appreciated. Still looking for a good entry point. I have $MAIN and $ARCC on my watch list.
I would think that a major benefit of dividend investing is that calculating portfolio size needed is not relevant. We don't care about the value of the portfolio. We care about the sustainable income it pays. As you invest you can gradually see the income rise as you invest more and pull the retirement trigger when it's high enough regardless of the market sentiment.
The income generated by contributions depends on market yields, which fluctuate over time. A high capital value with a 2% yield is no worse for retirement than a lower capital value with a 4% yield, as long as the yield remains sustainable in real terms. What matters is the consistent income stream, not market sentiment or capital value at any given time.
I'm sure the idea of an investment-Adviser might sound controversial to a few, but a new study by Motley-fool found out that demand for Financial-Advisers sky-rocketed by over 42% since the pandemic and based on firsthand encounter I can say for certain their skillsets are topnotch. I still prefer MAIN the most, it's a good mix of both dividend and nav growth with nice special dividends added in. It's expensive but worth it as you don't really have toworry about it with how well run it is
Nice to see that MAIN finished in second, but I think it was a little unfair not to include MAIN's special dividends. Why? Because they're almost constant. They're always throwing in special dividends, quarter after quarter, so they're not even really special any more. It's just a way for them to increase their dividends without actually ever increasing their dividends. In other words, they've got extra money to distribute, but they don't ever want to cut their dividend. So they keep the "regular" dividend low - which is hardly low - and then they pile the "special" dividend on top of it. If they ever have to "cut" their dividend, they just cut - or not distribute - the "special" dividend so that they don't have to touch/cut the "regular" dividend.
Retiring early! I wonder how realistic it actually is. It’s one thing to have that goal, but if you don’t have a plan, things can go sideways pretty quickly.
