    I think if the people in the videos actually choose the snack, this series would be more interesting. I've seen instances where the person has never even had the snack that they're given from the place they're representing.

    The term " hawaiian" does not have a relation to the people residing or have lived in Hawaii. It is not the same as a "Californian" or a "New Yorker". As a person that was born and raised in Hawaii and currently living in Hawaii, the word "Hawaiian" is understood an ethnic designation for a native person of Polynesian descent, and its use in the more general sense "a resident of Hawaii" is considered incorrect. I kindly ask you to please reconsider the title of the video for the respect and courtesy of others.

    • @makamaeranua6192
      @makamaeranua6192 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      As a native hawaiian, i fully agree with you. they should change the title because it is really disrespectful for native hawaiians like myself since referring to the word hawaiian is based on an ethnic group rather than where a person is from. its based on blood

    So you really think people in Hawaii have never seen or tasted this completely foreign "Chex Mix"? My god, what is this preeetzeaal you speak of? And Coup Aid? No, no, Qool Aid? Oh no, a slim jim? Why we all know Hawaii doesn't even have beef or know what a cow is much less have been introduced to the Slim Jim. You would have to go to one of those specialty shops in Hawaii to get these things. You know, like those hard to find 7-Elevens, or Supermarkets, or Drug Stores. I mean we have dozens of CVS's but I try not to look at anything on the shelves when I'm in there, might warp my limited Hawaii mind.

    “Hawaiians”? Not to be a downer, but i’m not sure if all of the people in the video on the Hawaii side are ACTUALLY Hawaiian... If you’re from Hawaii it DOES NOT mean you’re Hawaiian, you’re a “Hawaiian Resident”. Hawaiian is a term for people with Native Hawaiian ancestry. Remember, Hawaii is one of the only “states” that is completely and directly derived from a SPECIFIC ethnicity and culture, so the terms can’t be loosely thrown out there like “Californian”

I’m saying generally for Buzzfeed to watch out using the term “Hawaiian” so loosely knowing that in a way, for them you guys are being called “Hawaiian” by Buzzfeed more than likely due to the fact that you guys are from Hawaii, not because of your ancestry

    • @grayonthewater

      Saydee my friend is actually a native Hawaiian and she said people are getting tired of that argument. Her mom got into this whole passionate discussion about how you can’t find real original Hawaiian food anywhere and even “traditional” Hawaiian food that people think of is really stuff the foreigners brought over and how Hawaiian culture has been suppressed for so long that there’s a slow revitalization to bring it back into the mainstream. But she also said that she and her friends and family were getting tired of people splitting hairs over what is Hawaiian and what is not, there’s Hawaiian as in a citizen of the state of Hawaii/born and raised in Hawaii, and there’s the people of Hawaiian decent, like the ones who live on that island only the pure blooded Hawaiians can visit, and that it’s fine that the the word Hawaiian has multiple meanings. I’m not sure how many other people feel that way, but it may not be as touchy of a subject as we may think. My friend’s family as a whole seemed super chill about it when I went to Hawaii and stayed with them. Just thought I’d throw it out there!

    • @makamaeranua6192
      @makamaeranua6192 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@grayonthewater I wanted to clear up some of your story, i'm a native Hawaiian and i understand your friend is part hawaiian based on her mom being Hawaiian but you need to understand based on perspective it just depends. I've grown up in a household that spoke only Hawaiian and my grandfather is pure Hawaii, our culture and language was surpressed for years because of the united states government, the only reason now days we have programs like: Punana Leo, Kamehameha schools, Nanaikapono charter schools, that help current generations learn hawaiian and be immersed in culture is based on the Hawaiian renaissance. we got back our culture and our practices by people standing up and fighting for their rights and beliefs. I grew up with a grandfather who originally came from Ni'ihau which is the only island that can't be entered and only a few people are allowed there. your friends family might think its chill, but for normal hawaiian activists like myself and many other kanaka maoli (what real hawaiian people call themselves) find it very important, to know the difference between ethnicity and being from Hawaii.
      For years our culture was surpressed and now its being learned by many, we have programs in the University of Hawaii that is based on Hawaiian language (Olelo Hawai'i) and our cultural identity such as our history, medicine and cultural practices.
      ALSO PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT HAWAIIAN IS CONSIDERED AN ETHNIC GROUP, THE PEOPLE THAT ARE BORN IN HAWAII AND DON'T HAVE ANY BLOOD RELATIONS TO BEING HAWAIIAN ARE CALLED LOCALS OR RESIDENTS OF HAWAII.
