Everyone in my village had SR’s, so when the chance came up to buy a GTE in gunmetal grey, I jumped at it. I was the envy of my fellow youngsters! What a great car, I still remember driving it home on the country back roads listening to House of Pain’s second album. My decision was guaranteed when my mate who had rich parents had bought him a brand new Daihatsu Sportrak, and he said, “If you buy it I’ll be really jealous 😂
GM didn't love its home market enough to bless us with such hot hatches. We did get a rebadged Suzuki Swift [Chevy Sprint] Turbo, and I loved mine- wore mine out!
I've had 2 Nova's, both 1.2 cc,an 84 3 door saloon which was wrapped round a lamppost and a 87 5 door hatchback one, which I bought from my workmates missus for £120! I had it for years, except for a noisy wheelbearing it was faultless, brilliant little cars, very nippy and fun to drive, much better than the Fiesta, what happened to the Nova sr,they were absolutely everywhere,? Yeah they were good cars these.
Have you seen fast/classic car prices rise since then? If you have two or three of similar cars you could have a deposit for a house simply by putting your feet up and watching telly.
@@Cyberdyne-kg8ku both cars were fun the astra had the 2.0 litre 8v 122 bhp and weighed around a thousand kilo where as the nova had 102 bhp but only weighed shy of 800 kilo,s i like my mk4 astra 1.6 sport it feels like a dulled version of a mk2 gte
Peoples memories sure have gone, they were all terrible, Astra GTE's, Cavalier SRi's, Nova's, Belmont's blah blah blah. Only semi decent one was the Carlton.
you didnt watch the video its clean underneath. I'm 21 and I will have this over any modern shitbox. Its not about power and speed, its about driving enjoyment. You might have dementia old man

My sister had a silver one, and it was great. I changed the cambelt myself, and amazingly, I never botched it. Everything since has been botched 🤭
White, Astra GTE alloys, used to look great on these.
i loved mine. Even if the 205 and gt turbo were quicker, this was still fun

Had a 1988 1.3 SR. Always wanted a GTE/GSI but I was 17 and insurance for my SR was £1400 3rd party 😂
When I learnt to drive this was one of the cars I wanted, instead I had a Metro.

Facelift = 1991, late H plate. I had a facelift 1.5TD. Little rocket ship. Loved it.
My father had one. The back shelf and the caps on the alloys were regularly stolen.😢
Pocket Rockets !
The Yuppies choice of city car.
Its done 500 miles since 2018.Whats the point of it ?

Your right Tony, best just scrapping it eh 😂
Wow…sold for £19,000 that must be a record for a mk1, surely ?
Wasn’t this a non seller recently? Or was it a gsi?
This car sold at our October auction for £19,090.
Nove GTE and GSi came along too late for the party. By this time there was much better car's on the seen. R5 turbo, 1.9GTi ect
I see the head isn’t even cross flow! How very rude.
The Astra GTE is much better

@jamesengland7461 Good to know
So an Astra GTE is a better Nova GTE? Makes sense. 🤪

19k for a 35 year old hatchback ? Slow, under powered with no power steering,ABS,air con etc.Probably rusty as hell underneath.

@@clivebrackstone1896 😅 👍
Spent too much time talking about its rivals rather than just driving and reviewing the car
Nova was a dull car but the GTe accoutrements made it desirable. PS. 11 minutes into an 18 min video and you haven't got in the car! Really?
