Just discovered your channel. Love that i could hear it clearly - no annoying music and speaking at a speed and pitch that are easy to listen to. I will visit your other videos now. Thanks.
Yes! NO music! Thank you! Ahhhh By now you’ve probably noticed that the camera angle cut off much of what we wanted to see. Did you discover an adjustment to more securely attach the gathered piece to the flat piece-as seen in your demo?
I just bought my 1st serger after having done garment sewing and quilting for more than 60 years. Being on the “older” side of life, I bought the Baby Lock Acclaim because of its air threading and auto tension features. Not cheap but so helpful! Fabulous! Thanks for challenging me to find out all that it can do! Excellent video!
Great instructional video. I learned a lot from this. Don't have a serger yet, but now I know what to look for. And please let me put in a plug for buying anything sewing from a local dealer, one who will sit down with you and explain a machine, and who won't let you take it home until you feel comfortable using it. Bravo to Jackie for being that person for you!
Thank you for the video. It was interesting watching you problem solved, and could sometimes feel your frustration. Sometimes I get so frustrated with my own just sewing machine. It was great to see the warts and all.
Thank you for watching and for your positive feedback! I love to watch a cleanly, well crafted sewing video but sometimes it is nice to know that other people struggle with their sewing projects too. We all do!
Thank you for showing this. I have the same machine and use it rarely but think I need to practice more. I just finished a sewing class and many women are looking for information using a serger.
Glad I could help! I use my serger on almost everything I sew. It gets easier to set up each time you use it! And I love the professional looking finish.
Isn’t playing with overlockers fun? You’ve learned more about your machine stitching than I have, for sure. 😂 One tip I picked up about rolled hems is to cut thin strips of wash away stabilizer to insert while sewing. It has upped my game, giving my rolled hems a beautiful finish with no stray threads. The stabilizer is torn away after stitching. 😘
It can be a little intimidating at first but once you get the hang of it, it is definitely fun. Thank you for the rolled hem tip! I will need to try that out. On certain fabric, it can seem a little delicate and needs a little more support.
@@VstarrAsh Will you please give a little more detail on your method? Is the wooly nylon in one looper or two? Are you doing the first pass with the knife on and the 2nd pass with the knife off? Thank you. 😊
Thank you for sharing! I've done very basic sewing on and off for years, but I've got some free time and want to try more advanced techniques. I received my Mom's machine when she passed, but that thing scares me LOL I'm feeling encouraged to purchase some cone thread and take it out of the dusty case 🙂
Thank you for watching and I’m glad I could motivate you to give it a try! It is very intimidating but once you go through it step by step, I promise it will make more sense!
It would have been helpful for someone who does not have an over lock machine, and watching you discover what it can do, to use colored thread against the white machine
I was told ...on this machine 1034DX.....when threading machine or changing threads using the "tie-off" method....to set tension to Zero(0) to allow tension discs to release pressure as thread passes thru...then reset tension.... Thoughts??? Does it matter? Thank you!
Ohhhh interesting! I have tried the “tie-off” method and had inconsistent success with it. I’m not sure if I had the tension set to zero so that might have hindered me. I actually enjoy threading my machine and want to keep practicing just in case a thread breaks, I won’t go into panic mode.
@@sannysews I have just acquired my serger this year and I am really enjoying learning all about it! I have about 100 paperless paper towels to do tonight...and a dozen or more baby burp cloths....lol
I’m no expert but it looked like your loopers were still quite loose. I don’t have extra feet with my serger as it’s old but might look into getting a couple. Let us know when you’ve played around a bit more. I think tension issues are a nightmare. They have been for me anyway.
Oh I’ll have to go back and check! It’s always tough to make adjustment every time you use different fabric. Usually if I find something that looks ok, I stick with it! There might be a follow up video in the future, thank you for the suggestion!
Mmmmmmm I don’t know! The bottom threads are looped a little tighter so I don’t know if that would get in the way? But something to explore! Always love to reduce a step.
Thank you I enjoy your video. You didn’t give a good view of the finger guide that you pulled out and pushed and never showed it directly, but it was a very good video.
Thank you for your feedback. Since the machine can be referred to as a serger and an overlocker, I use the terms interchangeably. In the future I will be more aware of the consistency of the terms I use so it’s not confusing. ☺️
When someone has used one of these machines and are familiar with them, both terms, overlocker and serger is understood 😂 I didn’t even notice that you were interchanging the names. Knowing that they both mean the same thing. I have 3 of these machine and always seem to be so busy that I can’t explore the different stitches. I thoroughly enjoyed your video. Thank you 🙏
I disagree about the speed of the video. It was clear and concise, easy to hear and understand. I did not have to rewind to hear something I may have missed. I enjoyed the way you presented your video. Thank you.

That sounds luxurious! Enjoy exploring!
Thank you so much for this video . I will get my overlocker out of the box after 3 yrs!
Oh yay!

Thank you! Yes that’s a great point! There a plenty of knowledgeable people out there and hands-on learning can be so helpful! Great tip!

Great tip on the stabilizer! I’ll give that a try!❤
I find using two passes of Woolly Nylon serger thread gives it a lovely full finish on rolled edges.

Great video! Do I have an overlocker ? No. Do I sew? Also no. Did I enjoy watching this? Yes. Great job Steph!
Thanks lady! You’re the best 😘

Yay!! Thank you! ☺️
Brilliantly helpful, thank you so much! 😃💝
Thank you! Glad I could help!
A silicone mat works great to deaden the noise.
I love that idea🙌
Ohhhh thank you for the tip!
If you use “woolly thread in the loopers, you will not see green on the rolled hem! ❤
Ohhhhh I never thought about using different thread in my serger! Thank you for the tip! I'll have to give that a try!
Sigh…sadly, one thing a serger won’t do is make dinner! Have fun serging around, everyone!!💕
Ha I love this! Maybe someday…

That's a great suggestion. I'll keep that in mind if I ever do a more detailed serger tutorial.
Thank you so much!!!!!
You’re welcome! Thank you for watching! ☺️
People take the foot off to thread the Overlocker, learn something every day. Threading my Overlocker is one of my party tricks....
Ha! It’s definitely a skill to show off!

There are a few other presser feet for this model that you might like to learn. There is a lace foot and pearl/sequins foot that are cool.
Thank you for sharing! I saw those instructions in the manual and am thinking I might have to give them a try....

What happens if you don’t remove the needle but just unthread that one 🤔

can you use your sewing machine feet on your overlocker ??
I’m not able to use my sewing machine foot, the cable is larger on the serger. Not sure if that’s just my case or universal.
Thank you I enjoy your video. You didn’t give a good view of the finger guide that you pulled out and pushed and never showed it directly, but it was a very good video.
Thank you! I noticed that during editing but thought the second shot gave a clearer view! I’ll be more aware next time!
I have always thought this is a serger and not an overlock. Tell me the difference
There isn’t a difference! It’s two different name for the same machine.
Why do you keep calling it sn overlocker?
Its confusing because a serger and an overlocker are the same thing. Most people refer to it as a serger.
Thank you for your feedback. Since the machine can be referred to as a serger and an overlocker, I use the terms interchangeably. In the future I will be more aware of the consistency of the terms I use so it’s not confusing. ☺️

In Australia, the term serger is hardly used.
Same in England. We call them over lockers
Most people in the States might, but elsewhere it's known as an Overlocker. The Internet covers a big wide world...
Gosh so slow, just wish you would just get on with it
