- Playthrough with Cell. This game...sigh. When I first saw it I assumed it was an upgraded port of Ultimate Battle 22, which had more moves for each character and generally played a lot better. How wrong I was. It plays like UB22, only now the CPU genuinely wants to kill you, for some reason the A.I. has been made really aggressive. It also features screen-splitting gameplay which I believe was in the SNES Butoden games, and this seemingly pointless mechanic where you can knock your opponent into different planes of a stage.
The game speed seems to be a lot faster as well, however as I owned the slower PAL version of UB22 it was probably just that. Disappointingly there are no new characters and even worse, you can't use some characters in single player in this, from what I can tell, whilst you can in UB22. Characters like Roshi and SSJ3 Goku can only be used in multiplayer. Oh and then let's move on to the side of the box: "DRAGON BOLL Z":

The soundtrack of this game it's insane, one of the best of the DBZ games.
12:24,I do say the designs of every character here look so movie - quality compared to their anime counterparts before the Buu Saga but I always feel like some proportions of the characters look odd. Mister Buu here looks to be an example of that. It's weird but then again,he is a weird looking guy after all.
I really thought his head woulda been small tbh.
Also,man they really coulda given us King Piccolo and Nappa in this game to fill in the villains roster. That would be nice.

I don't know man, this seems MUCH better than the PSX version. Sprites animations are much more fluid and fast and the gamplay seems to be better too. Too bad for the split screen nonsense like the old butoden games.
Too bad we didn't get this version for PS1. Instead we got the crappy battle 22.
From what I've checked out, neither version is better than the other. They both suck respectively even with the Saturn version being more faithful to the Butoden games.
@@dnmstarsi nah this is definitely better than UB22, and I doubt anyone who's played that game will say otherwise.
@@webbiefade14 Yeah, Shin Butoden isn't really a better version. It feels more Super Butoden but it doesn't save the game or make it a little better.
@@dnmstarsi I would say better by default. Because by butouden standards this game isn't very great either....but in comparison to UB22??? Lmaaoo that's why everyone in the comments are saying this is the version they would have rather received for ps1 instead. It's not great but UB22 is just THAT BAD. And let's not act like there aren't many things this game did much better than UB22 either. It's better by default
@@webbiefade14 I would say it's your opinion since I checked out both versions and the Saturn game isn't that better despite feeling more like the SNES games. So my point still stands.

Trunks looks more like guile in this game more masuline somehow. 8:44 maybe broken nose as well. The flash kicks looks way better too

This game was published one year after Super Butoden 3 and it uses a lot of the mechanics of the Super Butoden games. Somehow it seems they removed a lot of diversity on the moves the player can use. In my opinion Super Butoden 2 is a better game overhaul.
Butouden 2 on snes is one of the best.

Like the fact that the gameplay is fast and the music is pretty good, but the screen-splitting feature is just distracting and confusing to me as I never got used to it.
sprites and cutscene animation are unquestionsbly great, but why they made the gameplay mechanics so clunky?

Cause I had a hard time learning it due to the lack of a Western localization.
PS1 version claims to be a better version of this but it's not. It's a crap comparing to original. Ultimate Battle 22 takes every assets of this game and add 3D stages. It's my opinion :P
this game has compressed voices, and music sounds a bit worse, plus music is random in each fight, but the graphics, speed and gameplay is way better than ultimate battle 22

Because this was a Saturn game and not only was the Saturn a failure but Saturn Emulation and porting(?) are an issue.
@@dnmstarsi most Saturn games were emulating nicely, two years ago. It's a huge memory hog though, so one needs a good rig.

3D was not shown here.
This game could have been the best dragon ball game if not was for its hideous loading times and a stiff game play.
Loading is not an issue doesn't take that long and gameplay is fun not stiff like the psx version
Overall "Dragon Boll Z: Shinbutohden" (like it says on the case's spine) is a disappointment, But then this was the era of less then stellar games, but at least Toei were on their A-game when it came to the cut scenes LOL. :D

One of the worst dragon ball z games to play I only bought it cause I loved watching dragon ball z only the intro was great but playing it was just as bad as the PS1 no difference ultimate battle 22 final bout was maybe better drsgon ball z games weren’t great until PS2

If dragon ball z games were playing like this I wouldn’t be buying them this has to be one of the worst dragon ball z games ever I thought PS1 who had the worst games play Bandai really didn’t care back then
The ONLY thing good about this game is the fast movement. Other than that ULTIMATE BATTLE 27 IS WAY SUPERIOR TO THIS SHIT VERSION💯
