Great video mate, I’ve always thought the SMLE sword bayonet would be good in small spaces. Not as much reach as a proper sword but still more than a knife which I think a lot of intruders could be carrying.
Yeah exactly, I just got annoyed when I saw people arguing that all swords were fine and all spears were useless etc or vice versa, basically anything designed for combat is going to beat a conventional tool. Only ones I disagreed with were people saying maces would be good, personally I'd feel a bit vulnerable with a mace due to the lack of reach compared to some tools.
After I filmed this I found an old pitchfork we had laying around with a 3-4ft handle and that was actually the perfect length for use indoors, moves around doorways fine but still massively outreaches a machete.
i know this is completely unrelated, but do you know any good prop filters for the GP-5? or would your method of cutting down P3 filters be good enough? i like the look of the original filter, so i want to keep it around.
For a spear I own a short spear in a small apartment and I think about 4 to 5ft is a perfect size but I do also like my swords, bo staff, bow, sais, and gun in my opinion use whatever you like that you can use effectively and always train with all weapons you own for defense
Hey, great video I was wondering, whean storing my recently bought ww2 gas mask, do I need to store it in any way different to normal masks as it has a lot of aspestos
If someone has a pipe, machete, axe, or something like that, you'll want a spear. What need is that macho stuff? A spear is absolutely lethal, your stabs are fast, harder to defend than a slash, and you keep your balance. Endurance is vital as well, and a spear uses less energy.
could a sledgehammer be viable? mine has a 6 pound head so not too heavy and the pole is the perfect length.i think i could just jab them and the face or use the shaft as a barrier to keep them away from me.honestly i should just buy a spear.
I mean it would work but the issue is recovering quickly from a swing with a hammer or mace, the thing that makes spears, polearms ideal is the head doesn't weigh much and can deliver a lot of force from just a poke, I'd say a pick axe handle itself works better than a sledgehammer as it still delivers force but isn't front heavy.
It’s take a certain amount of skill and courage to effectively defend yourself self with a sword against an armed attacker in probably a dark corridor. But it doesn’t take a whole lot of skill to hold and point a sharp spear at them, whilst screaming as loud as you can. They’ll turn and run for sure.
There are proper HEMA type videos on youtube that are with people unlike me that actually practise with the things, the main thing with a spear is adjusting your hands to change reach depending on the opponents attacking style.
It’s funny how during ww1 officers were told not to carry their swords unless of ceremony events because they were useless in the trenches. The sword was replaced by trench knives or daggers in the off hand instead of swords (obviously revolver in the dominant). The average soldier even had their bayonets shortened and would often take them off the gun once in the trenches, or even fight with trench clubs or shovels because of the tight spaces. This is something that was learned through the years of brutal fighting in tight spaces and trench raids
Trench fighting was weird because of how Medieval it reverted to, a museum near me has a load of improvised trench weapons, lots of spiked clubs, maces etc.
Laws here are quite weird, seems to come down to, how threatened you were VS how much excessive force you used, so basically if you stabbed someone once or twice you are much more likely to be cleared than if you went ape and hacked them into tiny bits. In most cases I've seen in the news, when someone has killed an intruder and didn't torture them or cut them into bits they were cleared, but the homeowners that tortured or chased people out of the house and still kept attacking them were the ones that got in trouble.
I mean, technically speaking, a sword with a shield would be the best bet. Probably get a crossbow if you're really concerned, as you'll struggle to find someone that determined to rob you. Of course, statistically speaking your best odds would be to just comply and let them take what they want, then claim it on insurance, as deaths in home invasion are almost unheard of in the UK, and the majority of those that have happened have been when someone has tried to fight, but it's understandable someone wouldn't want to take that risk, so you may as well stack the odds in your favour. You can of course buy ballistic armour or even a full suit of armour, but it's unlikely someone is going to hang around whilst you get changed. And you could get a gun, which in theory the law will protect you if you use it in self-defence, but if you don't use it as part of a gun club, and they find out you’ve been watching video's like this it may be used against you. Of course, the unfortunate fact is that the people most likely to be targeted in an attack are lone women, who tend not to be the demographic for such weaponry.
This isn't really a UK thing, I have crossbows, riot shields etc. It's more just the people arguing over polearms VS swords claiming only one type would work.
@@Weaponsandstuff93 Yeah, that's fair, but a British person talking about defence will always attract attention from people ignorant about our actual rights in this country, so it's worth informing people where they actually stand legally. As for the sword vs spear thing, I think the answer would differ if we were talking trained assailants, but to a home invader both will be effective. If you were facing someone with training, then spears tend to be less effective in 1v1 scenario's, hence they were rarely used in duels. A shield of any kind would probably be a massive equaliser too, as it lets you create room without exposing yourself to harm.
Yeah, but they should probably consider the fact Britain is massively safer than the US in every statistic, per capita, and there are a fraction of the amount of home invasions, let alone armed home invasions as state side. As the saying goes: "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones". If you're really concerned. It's not hard to get a shotgun licence, and if you use it in home defence the law will protect you, or you can buy a crossbow online that could drop a stag with no licence. You can even get ballistic armour and shields up to ratings that are banned in many places state side, if you watch too many movies and expect Rambo to invade your home. And UK law is surprisingly liberal on what you can do to protect your home or person, despite misinformation saying otherwise.
Except for all the States that have eroded gun laws to the point you might actually face prison for shooting a home invader Which Has happened in certain cases in some states.
The weird thing was this didn't even start regarding Britain being used as an example, pretty sure it was just a case of, in places where no guns are used, what is the best melee weapon for defending a house, room etc.
Imagine somebody is breaking in and you pull up spear😂
*"This! Is! Sparta!"*
"You call that a knife?"
Gonna mug the burglar 😎
This actually happened in Texas.... Look up Texan homeowner defends his home with a medieval spear
cutlass vs gladius for home defense?
The spear is better because it can penetrate the home intruders suit of armor
I love this guy , Liam , i wish you did more videos like this , like way back when

Gotta prepare for those full armor knight lords
Siege crossbow or a Warhammer then.
Personally, I prefer using my stairway mounted cannon to deter barbarians
As the founding fathers intended.
I prefer the pole arm because once you stick them you can pin them against the wall by applying presure to the shaft

My friend from flightschools grandfather killed a German in a barn with a pitchfork (ww2 not some random murder)
Can you show which is better for home defense:
A cannon or a mine?
Obviously a mine on the doormat.
Paul Revere saved me from this.
You can still put a bayonet on a rifle though.

Gasmask compatible beards xD

Very important tool is the E-tool for trenches, many lives been claimed with shovels, especially the 90° ones.
The other reason Officers in WW1 where told not to carry a sword, is because it marked them as an Officer, for a sniper.

I say a short sword for bedroom. A glaive or halberd for stair landing and a mace for garden 😂
Break glass in case of emergency.

I've got 2 crossbows, one is a pistol crossbow. Here in Czech Republic home defence is permitted, so it's shoot first and no questions.
