Very interesting material as usual my friend. I agree in most of your decisions. I would however consider the risk of developing an inverse taper on the main trunk having all main branches originating from more of less the same level as it is. Just a thought…. Keep up the good work 👏🏼👏🏼
Ouch. Last year following surgery I had to live for 8 weeks on 5-10 grams of fat per day it was to do with me being unable to drain fat following a neck dissection, but that was brutal. I used to watch those crazy food eaters on TH-cam for a little vicarious pleasure,🤣
🤣I used to eat a full vegan diet, so I understand. I only really switched back when I was diagnosed with cancer last year. I do still love my veggies though

I love the way silver birch heal their wounds - such cool twisty callous formation, fueled by all that top growth. BTW, it's 10:02 pm in British Columbia, Canada and my stomach and fridge are EMPTY!!!
Yes silver birch heal better than any other trees provided that they are allowed to grow. This will be really interesting to follow I agree. I hope you enjoyed your food. What was on the menu?

The tree is yours to do whatever you feel is the right way to go. Hi cholesterol on that plate mate but don’t think it matters to you at this point in your life. Keep going my friend.
Yeah I'm more about the taste Joe! In terms of air layers, because I have access to such lovely Yamadori silver birch, they just never really seem worth the effort. That being said I'm currently layering a 16ft high tree just for fun 🤣
I think I would have gotten rid of one of them branches altogether. Can't decide which one. I was in discussion on a site the other day about when you should put a plant in a bonsai pot. You like me seem to be in no rush, others impatience, or whatever takes hold and its chop the roots and bonsai pot it is. What's your view bud?
Hi Kevin. It's a good question. My thoughts are that it should go in a pot when the primary and secondary development and any major healing is at least more or less finished. At that point the shallow pot is useful for developing finer roots and better ramification in the canopy. There are also some exceptions like needing to use a certain sized pot for a particular tree or landscape which would more than likely be a proper ceramic pot.i definitely think think that on the whole trees do much better in washing up sized containers than in bonsai pots.
Really good example of the benefit of sacrificial branching and final chjoices are spot on for me. the highlight however, was the full English brunch. I had to stop and wipe the drool from my chin :)

Our Welsh break is over packing for home now and back to my trees. Have a silver birch thickening up in my border , may lift and shape next year. Great potential with yours, will you do some carving on it or wait for healing over? Keep growing xx.
Hi Mandy. I will just allow this to fully callous over now and do whatever it wants to do. Birch heal up so well it will all look great given 2-3 years and everything should silver over with a bit of luck
This video Anthony made me real hungry 😂 looks so good! And healthy 😂 recently i have also start saving branches around wounds for quicker healing. Works very good! The birth is on its way! Do you know when to reopening the callas around the wound for quicker healing?
With a species like birch I don't find that re opening wounds is necessary. Providing there Is plenty of sap flow they just do their thing and callous over themselves

It will be interesting although I see those branches being significantly prunned next year before any inverse taper could develop
