I have a 110 p300, with roof rack and ladder, I carry all my tools and stuff in the back (approx 200lbs worth) and as long as I stay under 70 mph I can get mid to high 20’s mpg consistently. Some days in moving traffic of around 60mph I’ve even hit 30mpg. I’m convinced frequent oil changes has helped, one at 8000, and another at 19000. Been superb last the last 2 years.

Land Rover will always have a stigma attached... for multiple decades being super unreliable, worse resale value, or just the term "junk". Just like the Toyota Prius will always have a stigma attached to it, even though they made it better looking recently... people will always believe they are the worse/annoying/etc. drivers.

I have a 2023 defender that has been in the shop more than on the road!!!! We’re trying to make a deal on trading it back to the dealership!!! A very bad ownership experience! It’s in the shop now with a fuel pump issue! This car only has 6k on it! Beware to all future buyers!!! Car started with stop start issue, transmission problem, back seat problem with folding, steering lock up while driving, stop start button doesn’t always function. Looking at lemon law possibility! Only vehicle in my lifetime that has had this much trouble and Iam 67.

At 90K I changed the timing belt, pumps, fluids, etc. 4. Tires at 65K and 115K. That’s it. Oh, wait, I also had to refill the wiper fluid. I drive this thing in the desert, the shore, the mountains - I haul five surfing guys with boards and bags - I put city and highway and dirt and sand road miles on it. I think I will go 300K with it. Hey, I completely relate to your experience I did lemon my 2023 Defender 90 after due to the wade system unable to activate since i purchased it at the dealer, I literally drove it for 1500 miles only, was back in the shop within 10 days of purchase, i had transmission issues, passenger seat fold mechanism broke and faulty speakers for the entertainment, and engine fan would go on after i turn off the car for about 1-2 minutes, it was hassle, i put the car in the shop July 7 2022 and never saw it again! Finally was given my money back in mid December 2022, during all that time i was still paying for a car i didnt have!!! It really hurts me bcz the defender was my dream car since i was kid and the old gens defenders i fell in love with! Every time i see one on the road, it bothers me! Bcz I see what I could’ve had if land rover did not screw up their quality control!!!!! I ended up with a mercedes e 450 all-terrain wagoon, amazing car, but not off road worthy like a defender!!!

There’s two camps of defender owners, those that have issues and rightly so complain and get refunded etc, then there’s the other camp that have all the issues and say it’s ok? Are they brain washed into accepting that this is ok? Spend circa 80k on a vehicle and accept that’s it’s ok to have an engine failure? Or a water pump fail? Windscreens that crack? Quality issues? Software that simply fails and the continuous engine management light being on? How do JLR get away with it? If they could build a reliable car they’d have one of the best brands on the planet. Genuinely like the defender and want to buy one but all these issues gives me huge concern ! Such a Shame 🇬🇧

You guys will miss it, but as u said, another JLR product will grace your driveway in due course.
I wonder if u guys would have liked the Defender a lot more if u got it with the P400 engine ?
P300 is a good motor, but in a Defender, it struggles with the vehicles weight.
P400 is a much better motor.
More power, a lot more responsive, and fuel economy is similar, or even better then the P300, because the P400 doesn’t struggle with the vehicles weight.
Also, a Defender is not aerodynamic, so any driving above 60 mph, won’t be kind to fuel economy.
Any motor will work hard, when it needs to push a brick through the air, at speeds above 60 mph.
    Austin,
Yes, everything is going EV, but Defender will continue with its current body shape.
The new Defender 130 can seat 8 people…
Whilst the gas engines will get phased out a lot by 2030, and power will become Electric, the different types, and body shapes of vehicles will remain.
    You can’t carry 8 people ( legally ) or comfortably in a Toyota Corolla…
The F150 Lightning looks much the same as other
    F150…

Reliability is my greatest concern for this vehicle! LR’s reputation in this area does not give me any confidence to spend a 100k on this car. To get the amazing ground clearance and approach angles, LR went with air suspension which over time will fail out of warranty. How much will that bill be? Something I am not willing to find out. It takes big balls if your middle class and money matters to buy this car. If you are wealthy, of course, it matters nothing at all. But think about it it’s 80 grand. For most people this is a bad car to buy as it will bleed them and cannot be counted on. Possibly one of the worst car decisions to buy this in the business.

LR Defender is a crap. Nothing beats Toyota Landcruiser or Lexus LX570.

JLR is taking orders for these no problem. Not sure why anyone would pay over the new price for a used Defender when you could just order a new one and wait a few months....

I don't think the few month wait is realistic. Unless you got lucky with allocation and build date. I am hearing 5-18 months. Thank you for checking in and commenting. World-wide the Defender is currently top 10 new vehicles that is holding value.

13 month for a 90…..longer if you want the hard top here in the U.K. We have had ours for a year….. love it and get about 34mpg out of our 300. Not a single thing gone wrong….so far so good.
