I think the main thing about the whole "don't kill out of hatred" thing is that a Jedi can only use Force Choke if they focus on and fuel their hatred. It is a very aggressive power to use. Kicking someone off a ledge who is actively trying to kill you can be done without you feeling hatred towards them, it is just survival instinct.
Although this is far from my favourite arc, what elevates this one for me is the cinematography and direction, which is LEAPS AND BOUNDS better than most episodes previously, and marks a huge shift away from the mostly static direction the show previous to this. Can't wait for season 4!
This is the sort of episode where if it happened in season 1 people would have been angry that Ahsoka did so well on her own, but because they took their time to get to it, Ahsoka feels like she's earnt it through growth and training instead of being a whiney youngling just turned padawan
The way Ahsoka handled the situation was probably the best way to deal with her crisis. When I was in the military we were taught that if we were every captured that was should band to together and escape as soon as possible. The longer you are in captivity the weaker you become in body and spirit. I didn't care for this that ark that much because it seamed too grim and having seen what other Jedi are capable in similar situations the youngling seamed almost incompetent by comparison. Her are a few things they could have done. Option 1: They all could have just used the force to turn the speeder upside down and pull them off the with the force? If they were able to pull that off they could collected their weapons and launch a surprise attach and take the enemy by force? "No pun intended". Option 2: Being that they can sense each other and the enemy they should have been able to use coordinated attacks to take out the hunter one at a time. Option 3: They may not have had weapons but they have access to trees, rocks and the force. If they all focused on one of the hunters they could have pull on the gun and pushed him hard with the force to get his weapon. They could have all concentrated on one hunter and either push him high in the sky or down to his death, either way they would have done better. I understand not wanting to kill out of anger but to take out a superior force that is trying to kill you is self defense too. Anakin's battle experience and teaching provided Ahsoka with option the other younglings never considered and that save their lives.
And here I thought Holden would know that trandoshans and Wookies are natural enemies. Trandoshans hunt the toughest strongest and rarest beings in the galaxy for their goddess the score keeper. However actual Jedi are too tough for young trandoshans just starting their hunt as adults. So, they take younglings and padawans first to test them. The wookie and trandoshans planets are neighbors so they constantly fight

Hey Holden! Love the reactions! But to clear up the whole “Don’t kill out of hatred” thing, here is a thought excercize: Imagine you are a Cop. You are called to a scene where someone is walking down the street waving a knife at people. You arrive on the scene and the man charges at you with the knife. You shoot him twice. He falls to the ground and the knife drops out of his hand and bounces away. The man isn’t dead and is no longer a threat. You wait 3-5 seconds, then fire 3 more rounds into him, killing him. This actually happened, and the cop was convicted of murder. Ahsoka saying to not kill out of hatred is her trying to prevent a youngling from making the same mistake. He was no longer a threat and killing him at that point is murder. Same reason she told that Trandotian at the end that he was beaten and discouraged him from going for a weapon.
Holden, the short story / movie you were referring to that is similar to the plot of this episode is called “The Most Dangerous Game”. They also made a comedy movie featuring John Leguizamo called “The Pest” which features a similar story line where they hunt humans for sport. Maybe react to the pest on the channel one day?
I feel like this should have been really obvious given how events in these episodes play out and how the Jedi act vs how the Sith act in the films, but the point Ahsoka was making with Kalifa is that the Jedi can kill in self defense, but they shouldn't kill out of feelings of hatred. That is the way of the Sith, not the Jedi. Killing out of self defense and killing out of hatred are two very different things. When Kalifa attacks and force chokes the Trandoshan, you can see in her face that she is being ruled by her emotions of anger and hatred. When Ahsoka kills in this episode, she does it without allowing those feelings to rule over her.
That’s kind of where some of Anakins “justice” for his ultimate departure from the Jedi comes into play. Plo koon is obeying his teachings. Not getting attached. Giving into the will of the force. To the point of not allowing your own feelings to guide you. Anakin wasn’t wrong to not give up, but it was not the Jedi way.
I believe the movie you are thinking of is Predators (Predator 3) its literally the same plot. Captives released in an inescapable location to be hunted for sport.

I think you mis understand how the force works. The force requires about x2 of energy to lift same object. So to lift an apple it’s x2 heavier using the force than regularly. That’s why it drains energy. Especially when it’s really heavy. That’s why they don’t use it as much. Rather save the energy/stamina for saber combat or other.
@@neptunemedia8746 yeah it’s jn the old republic games and some of the clone wars episodes that show how they struggle on small objects when they themselves have smaller force connections
Hey, Holden and Jen! PADAWAN LOST: "The Most Dangerous Game", Richard Connell's short story from 1924, has inspired countless man-hunting-man movies and here is adapted to Star Wars! This duology was specifically designed as a developmental milestone for both Ahsoka and Anakin to demonstrate self-reliance and detachment, respectively. Guess who made the better showing? We're back on FELUCIA, the planet where Anakin, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka trained the farmers to fight off Hondo Ohnaka and the planet where Twi'lek Master Aayla Secura will die during Order 66. Kel Dor Master Plo Koon's unit is called the 'Wolfpack' in honor of their clone Commander WOLFFE with the dead eye who makes a return appearance here after last being seen rescuing Anakin and Mace Windu from a downed cruiser on Vanqor during "R2 Come Home" (Season 2, Episode 21). Trandoshans are a reptilian species from Trandosha who worship the Goddess they call THE SCOREKEEPER. They earn points per kill with prey being accorded a certain value relative to the level of difficulty of besting it. Existence for Trandoshans is basically a big game hunt. They are the traditional enemy of the Wookiees of Kashyyyk The game preserve from this duology is on Trandosha's moon, Wasskah. BOSSK, the reptilian bounty hunter hired by Vader to locate the 'Millennium Falcon' in "Empire", is the saga's most well-known Trandoshan. Brought into the series during the Boba Fett Trilogy of Season 2, it's been shown he has known Fett most of the clone's life. Seen in the aerial hunting lodge are trophies that include a Wampa pelt draped over the throne, numerous Wookiee pelts, a reek head, a rancor head, a stuffed gundark, and busts of a Kaleesh, a Gran, an Ithorian and a Gungan. The introduction of CONVORS, the adorable little birds perched outside the younglings' hideaway. KALIFA was human, O-MER is Cerean like Ki-Adi-Mundi and JINX is a Twi'lek. WOOKIEE HUNT: Some of the Trandoshans in Garnac's guild were named after famous reptilian creatures or dragons even if they weren't identified by dialogue. Gilas was named after ANGILAS, a Godzilla opponent. Goron was named after the GORN, a reptilian humanoid species from "Star Trek". Lagon was named after ANCALAGON THE BLACK from Tolkien's "The Silmarillion". Smug was named after SMAUG from Tolkien's "The Hobbit". Ramy was named after RAMOTH from McCaffrey's "Dragonriders of Pern". To my mind, the writers didn't go far enough! I feel every Trandoshan in the guild should have been dubbed after a famous counterpart because they left some great names on the table like FAFNIR, TIAMAT, VERMITHRAX, GHIDORAH, SLEESTAK, FALKOR, MAHARS, DRACO, JERIBA, GRIG, G'KAR, YEVAUD and VILLENTRETENMERTH! The Trandoshan hunting lodge yields a glimpse of two other notable trophies while Ahsoka grapples with Garnac: a Neo-Crusader Mandalorian helmet from the Old Republic era of 4,000 years earlier and a Crystal Skull from "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" as a Lucasfilm Easter Egg! The introduction of CHEWBACCA into the saga! He's a spry 179 years old here! The introduction of GENERAL TARRFUL, the Wookiee war-chief, into the saga. He helps Yoda escape Kashyyyk during Order 66 and appears again in the "Fallen Order" video game. The surprise return of honorable Zabrak bounty huntress SUGI and her Ssori partner SERIPAS last seen in "Sphere of Influence" (Season 3, Episode 4) and "Bounty Hunters" (Season 2, Episode 17), respectively. The mutually respectful conversation between Ahsoka and Anakin on Coruscant pleases an eavesdropping Yoda but he fails to register Anakin's desperate near-embrace of his Padawan. Ahsoka is maturing but Anakin is getting in deep! In the credits, Chewbacca is listed as being voiced by himself but the late PETER MAYHEW is given special acknowledgement for his contribution to the beloved Wookiee.
The story you are thinking of, I think, is The Most Dangerous Game. Where the hunter has like a private jungle island where he kidnaps people and hunts them in the jungle
These are some of my fav Ahsoka episodes as these predator trope plots are enjoyable. Looking forward to a 90's TMNT movie reaction since Jen seemed a little confused about them 😅
"The Most Dangerous Game", a short story by Richard Connell, published in the early 1920s, I believe. It has inspired numerous adaptations, both direct and indirect.
23:37 Ah, I see you (your editor) did list some of the similar stories. Most, if not all, would admit taking inspiration from the original short story, I'm guessing.
In the original Extended Universe canon, it was Trandoshans which traded Wookie slavew with the Empire... Han Solo pretty much helped Chewie free Kashyyk from the Trandoshan occupation. Holden, you have probably seen that storyline in Star Trek Voyager with the Hirogen hunters... That Clone Wars description of Trandoshan culture really resembles the Hirogen in many ways, the cult of hunting.
I get the whole don’t kill out of hate comments, however that means not to kill when you are clearly not in danger out of hate. Jedi can defend themselves and defending yourself is much different than killing out of hate
The Most Dangerous Game is the short story you're thinking of. A wealthy guy kidnaps people to hunt them on his private island. He considers humans to be the most dangerous game to hunt because they have the ability to reason while animals don't.
Even though they are similar in age to ahsoka (teenagers most likely), they were taken when they were youngling children. The training they received prior to their abduction was extremely limited. Since they have been stuck on the island so many years, they have aged out of the youngling ranking, but still call themselves such because they never officially graduated to padawans because they were abducted. Think someone who is kidnapped for several years as a middle schooler. They may grow into a teen or young adult, but because they’ve been missing so many years, they only have the limited education of a middle schooler.
She said don't kill them out of hate because Khaleefa (spelling?) was about to kill the Trandoshan using Force Choke, which is canonically a dark side-exclusive power. Ahsoka used it right before her if you noticed but only to subdue, not kill. George Lucas actually had Luke use Force Choke on the Gamorrean guards in Return of the Jedi (along with wearing all black) to make the audience question if he was a dark sider after what he went through in Empire.
Holden, one of the places you may have seen the story about people hunting others for sport could be Supernatural. I believe there was an episode in the early seasons when Sam was kidnapped by hunters and hunted for sport.
Lore fact: I believe trandosha (boseks homeworld) and kashyyk (wookie homeworld) are in the same solar system and trandosians like to kidnap wookies and do this
Anakin was always the older brother to Ahsoka. I prefer their relationship even as master & student. This arc was so amazing & can’t wait til you get to my favorite one
I think the story you were thinking about with the island where they hunt people is called The Most Dangerous game. It's a really old movie whose plot has been recycled numerous times
Fun fact for some trandoshans the hunt is there religion they believe in a god they call the Scorekeeper essentially the more Jagganath points you earn the better reward in the afterlife, however you are shamed or captured during a hunt you lose all of your points. also tougher kill like wookies jedi etc earn them more points. the reason why (this is only a theory) they dont try jedi knights or masters because they lack the confidence them to actually kill, where as younglings and padawans are still high value targets, but with less danger for them.
You clearly don’t know what ‘killing out of hatred’ is in the Star Wars universe. It’s basically when you choke them or show your dark side to achieve victory.
I know you guys aren’t watching in release order but this arc was very important because Ahsoka was hated by fans beforehand as her actions never really had consequences and she never did anything by herself. This was one the arcs that helped correct that
And here I thought Holden would know that trandoshans and Wookies are natural enemies. Trandoshans hunt the toughest strongest and rarest beings in the galaxy for their goddess the score keeper. However actual Jedi are too tough for young trandoshans just starting their hunt as adults. So, they take younglings and padawans first to test them. The wookie and trandoshans planets are neighbors so they constantly fight. Trandoshans kill their siblings right out of their eggs like Bossk did.
Just in case no one has said it, Wookies and Trandoshans share a system; their homeworlds are dangerously close. Each trando kill is a sacrifice to their god, with wookies being at the height of their point system. Some of the many reasons they hate one another lol.
I know the short story being talked about!! I always thought the arc must be at least somewhat inspired by that. I'm not sure what the title was though...

“The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell is the OG for this type of story. It’s a short story that we read in English class in high school.
That and Predators (2010)
The short story you keep thinking of is “The Most Dangerous Game” where a rich man invites people to his island and then they realize they’re stuck and he hunts them for sport
One of Ashoka’s first glimpses of a friend dying, feels really sad
This is the sort of episode where if it happened in season 1 people would have been angry that Ahsoka did so well on her own, but because they took their time to get to it, Ahsoka feels like she's earnt it through growth and training instead of being a whiney youngling just turned padawan
The Most Dangerous Game is the story you were thinking about Holden. I'm pretty sure Apple TV did an adaptation or something
The Most Dangerous Game is the book. It's also the plot of a ton of things, including the movie Predators.
With this episode Holden and Jen are 50.73% through The Clone Wars! (Holdens theory of being over half way is EXACTLY spot on!
These are the Clone Wars Episodes of this Video (Nr. 19):
Nr. |S. |Ep. |Episode Name
---------------------------------------------------
68 |3 |21 |Padawan Lost
69 |3 |22 |Wookiee Hunt
Day 10 of keeping an excel list of all the episodes Holden and Jen have watched and in which videos.
Any suggestions are welcome ;)
Hey Holden! Love the reactions! But to clear up the whole “Don’t kill out of hatred” thing, here is a thought excercize:
Imagine you are a Cop.
I think Holden is remembering “the most dangerous game”. Great short story about hunting humans for sport.
18:13 - Holden's look of combined love and pride is impressive. 😆
Find a partner that looks at you like Holden looks at Jen after a dad joke.
Yesterday I rewatched the finale, and OH MY GOD I need this guys to get there...
"Master Plo" Holden says. Which made me notice the oddity in using his first name.
Then i realized they probably didnt have much choice lol
I cannot wait for their reactions to season 4-7. They’re gonna love it
I feel like this should have been really obvious given how events in these episodes play out and how the Jedi act vs how the Sith act in the films, but the point Ahsoka was making with Kalifa is that the Jedi can kill in self defense, but they shouldn't kill out of feelings of hatred.
Not sure if you noticed. But the chair of the hunter leader has a mount of the snow monster from Empire
You tottaly didn't get what Plo meant, he cares about Ahsoka and he knew that Ahsoka will take care of herself
@@toamszkozak8822 What you guys are both saying is not mutually exclusive and you are both correct
I believe the movie you are thinking of is Predators (Predator 3) its literally the same plot. Captives released in an inescapable location to be hunted for sport.
0:35 The amount of episodes in the following seasons:
Season 4: 22 episodes
Season 5: 20 episodes
Season 6: 13 episodes
Season 7: 12 episodes
Best Regards
The crystal skull from Indiana Jones is on the shelf in one of these episodes as a little Easter egg... Good luck finding it. It's when Ahsoka fights the leader..
What is your source because this sounds odd
@@neptunemedia8746 yeah it’s jn the old republic games and some of the clone wars episodes that show how they struggle on small objects when they themselves have smaller force connections
Hey, Holden and Jen!
PADAWAN LOST:
"The Most Dangerous Game", Richard Connell's short story from 1924, has inspired countless man-hunting-man movies and here is adapted to Star Wars!
They are the traditional enemy of the Wookiees of Kashyyyk
The game preserve from this duology is on Trandosha's moon, Wasskah.
WOOKIEE HUNT:
Some of the Trandoshans in Garnac's guild were named after famous reptilian creatures or dragons even if they weren't identified by dialogue.
The "teaching a village to fight" story is Akira Kurosawa's 'Seven Samurai'
These are some of my fav Ahsoka episodes as these predator trope plots are enjoyable.
Looking forward to a 90's TMNT movie reaction since Jen seemed a little confused about them 😅
"The Most Dangerous Game", a short story by Richard Connell, published in the early 1920s, I believe. It has inspired numerous adaptations, both direct and indirect.
23:37 Ah, I see you (your editor) did list some of the similar stories. Most, if not all, would admit taking inspiration from the original short story, I'm guessing.
They're not killing them out of hate those guys are just dying by a lack of wind resistance.
I love this arc! I always thought it was well done. Even the fan service of including Chewie was handled well.
The movie Predators with Adrien Brody (2010) has the same story plot. The movie the Hunt (2020) is a dark comedy movie with a similar story plot.
They already explained that a Jedi Knight is too tough to be prey. Let alone too difficult to capture alive in the first place.
Hard Target... One of my faves.. One of the best terrible 90s movies.. And all Van Damme
"The Most Dangerous Game" is the story your thinking of I believe Holden.
The most dangerous game by Richard Connell is the short story about a man being hunted by General Zaroff! Highly suggest it
Even though they are similar in age to ahsoka (teenagers most likely), they were taken when they were youngling children.
Lore fact: I believe trandosha (boseks homeworld) and kashyyk (wookie homeworld) are in the same solar system and trandosians like to kidnap wookies and do this
I swear the padawan with the long head is the voice of the disciple in KOTOR 2. So similar.
Youngling is a level on your way to being a Jedi, then padawan, Jedi knight, Jedi master
I believe this arc was Ashoka’s character change arc. She really matured as a result of this arc and the series Greatly benefited from it.
It's Jen thinking the Ninja Turtles wear clothes for me
Anakin was always the older brother to Ahsoka.
This was one the arcs that helped correct that
Battle Royal is the movie you are thinking of. Or No Escape, or Hard Target.
Yeah this entire arc is just The Most Dangerous Game in Star Wars
The famous of hunting people for sport that Holden is thinking about is The Most Dangerous Game
Killing out of hatred is the path towards the dark side. Killing in defense is natural and doesn't require hate, but just a need to survive.
Plo Koon is the jedi you're trying to learn the name of. You can also see him getting shot down in revenge of the sith
"Predators" is the film you are thinking of Holden.
Master Plo Koon is actually one of the Jedi shown being taken down in order 66 in Revenge of the Sith.
I love how you do these by arcs and not episodes!
11:00 One of my favourite scenes in all of Clone Wars.
The story you’re talking about is “The Most Dangerous Game.”
10:46 Wasn‘t canon at the time of release, Holden … :D
I think the story you were talking about in the beginning in the video is called "A Dangerous Game" or "The Dangerous Game". Just a fun fact I guess!
The story you've heard of is The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell.
Isnt the Wookie way, to rip people's arms off? You forgot the best representation of similar plotlines with The Pest.
Holden’s thinking of “The Most Dangerous Game”
Just in case no one has said it, Wookies and Trandoshans share a system; their homeworlds are dangerously close. Each trando kill is a sacrifice to their god, with wookies being at the height of their point system. Some of the many reasons they hate one another lol.
I think the book you kept mentioning is called “the most dangerous game”
Sad the shot of voda smiling didn't make the cut :(
I know the short story being talked about!! I always thought the arc must be at least somewhat inspired by that. I'm not sure what the title was though...
That kind of story is the premise of Predators with Adrian Brody or The Hunt
Plo koon tells anakin that if he trained her aswell as he thinks he did then he needs to have faith that she'll make her way back to them, I get that he's a bit more cold about it but he doesn't flat out abandon her
pretty sure golden is referring to the move Predators. they capture people and put them on a different planet to be hunted
