My mom asked why I was being so toxic at Christmas dinner. I told her I gained a lot of OS in BAR and she immediately understood.
I think this could be applied to ALL multiplayer games. Not just bar.
Any game with a ladder/ranking system.
Remember everyone selecting commander unit and ctrl+b gives you free resources
That floating mic is a miracle of science :D
My op is its the complete inverse of what you mention.
When people start the game they are happy, its only once the start playing with people at a higher OS that moans at them they start getting bitter.
Also once you get to the other extreme, High OS. You generally are playing against people that know what they are doing and are also not toxic too. as the toxicity stems from someone not doing something properly.
Its the people in the middle, the 20 os people, the average, that think they know what to do but havnt quite realised they dont know everything yet. They are the ones that tend to be the most toxic
Not how bell curves work at all.
Inverse bell curve?
I was thinking the same. A bell curve always displays frequency or a derivative of that on the vertical axis.
hes just using shallow representation to help organize ideas - for his frame he likely should have used 'competitive aggression' as the metric along the x axis in relation to communication. This isn't an academic thesis or theory, its clearly just for provoking discussion - if you want that level of logic the discussion should be more on the difference between a 'casuals tantrum' and albeit reductive critical fact of objective or missed opportunity + this should mention the lens of people viewing the assumed expectation people should know, people don't communicate and ask, in the moment is always at risk of being heated so and so forth. you can pick any game thats got tug of war or competitive premises and see the exact same form of issues. How do you communicate a better option or method or strategy in the moment or after the fact. No one holds the presumption that its a fact, someone who doesnt know, doesnt know! they likely cant and wont identify before, during or after an issue exists or counter, when an opportunity is missed. go look at LOL - people have built content creation and careers on coaching - ie backseat gaming xD ... even then people can suck at taking / utilizing / understanding information.
Every people i have met while playing BAR was so nice. Letting me know my mistakes, helping me with control keys, ...
Love your analysis. We should try to have conversations about the social dynamics in the community and what can be done to improve it if necessary.
I think it is because you play mostly with like 15 other players and one grumpy guy is enough to have a toxic impression and because it is a pretty intense game which highly depends on teamplay.
This. One guy messes the whole game up. I have been in games where we kickbanned a player that was being toxic.
by enlarge the comunity is great, but there are always a few bad apples that spoil it for everyone. it's like leaving a review. 9/10 times someone will leave a review because they had a bad or less than ideal experience, but are a lot less likely to leave a review for an average or good experience. so that's to say, the very negative experiences stick in our minds more than just the average or good experiences hence the feeling of things being negative or toxic when on a whole they really are not.
To be honest, i can't share your opinion. I hardly have games with toxic ppl and i can't relate that in any way to os. Most high os are quite friendly and respectful in game. Maybe the reason is somewhere else. I play usual everything from 1v1 to midsize teamgames 6v6 and everything in-between. 8v8 i just play from times to time. And usually with some minrating etc. i think those few idiots exist all along the os range.
I think friction u have if u let play very new or bad players together with more advanced ones just because the expectation of some players don't meet the requirements if the skill of the others. That can be very frustrating sometimes - probably for both sides. But BAR has all the tools to avoid that.
never seen people being toxic in BAR
unless u upset by simple words such is todays society
I'm renaming myself from PnutButtery to BellCurve
I think that this is a prime example of negativity bias
I agree. Toxic people leave more of an impression and you tend to remember them. Another reason is that in general toxic people take up more "space" they are louder and more in your face. I really don't agree with this video.
@@mauws9642 its also the part that no one mentions that high level play cannot escape critical assessment / communication, by its nature and necessity it is reductive for a specific end result (to win or lesser than that is to complete an objective like secure some sort of tangible benefit) - its not open ended like greenhorn games. This is the negativity bias that's present in all competitive games and people are populist antithetical to improving on gameplay themselves - hence calling some stereotypical mindsets 'casuals' - you cannot offer someone a better alternative without someone likely perceiving you as a complete dick, plus in the moment who has time to send you a peachy love letter about something you could or should have done better or seen or communicated. its a competition even if people denigrate the premise to 'just a game' or this isnt ranked / competitive. its out of touch - some people just cant function objectively and default to subjective reaction. you will never escape the conflagration of casual attitudes against objectively mathematically exact performance to win. this is why all high performers in a general population have to severely depreciate their perspective to not anger the masses - thus often being mute.
I've played other games where there can be some harsh words said in comments. The only issue I have with BAR is that I'm still a Seal Cub level noob.
then engage with someone who is knowledgeable on all aspects of the game specifically and the style of game and its key functions. BAR hasnt acquired a deep player base thats learnt micro and macro logic like SC2 has and the depth of video content explanations. Tug of war style games have a few layers of depth that if never explained to certain people, will go their whole life never ever consciously conceiving - even so far as if they play the game as their sole content as a content creator.
It is.
Next question.
I disagree on the "os plain" most high os players are very chill. It just take one dude who is toxic to make you feel bad playing video game and if there are 16 players in lobby there is a big chance you will face someone toxic, even 15 people are chill one guy will ruin it. Also being grumpy doesnt = toxic. I faced many times hostility if i pinged people with advice on what to do. I was like "do this and this to win" and they were hostile to me as 20 os players etc.
But yeah i agree that just chill dont care about os part.
compared to other games it aint that toxic
I dont think the game is that toxic. But it doesnt help there is no real match making aside from auto balance
Ngl jaws I think you are completely off with this video. Seems to me like more of a viewer farm than actual content that your viewers get value from.
People are people and some act shitty regardless of OS. There are toxic top level players, low level players and everywhere in between. I have never noticed any correlation between OS and toxicity.
I suggest you take this video down and make another one where you ask people to act nicely instead. This just promotes prejudice towards high and low os and makes the community worse.
Completely agreed, I have never, in any game, observed a correlation between skill level and toxicity. Also, I think that the whole BAR toxicity topic is pointless, BAR has one of the nicest and most helpful community, appart from a little saltiness from time to time which is perfectly normal.
@@robinperdreau7031 id ask you both to refrain from asking for censorship - the video has achieved many objectives:
1. he tackled a topic that is worth discussion - if nothing else for revealing trends and to challenge himself
2. he is a small content creator and NEEDS the flames and pressure of criticism to help stoke his content development and quality
3. hes a new creator and is well within his formative stages to try and identify what his identity or schtick will be
4. he needs exposure to the kinds of internet swamp comments can be and if he can effectively judge and use feedback for growth
5. controversy never hurts a populism based platform - talking heads are better than silence - in this case comment engagement is better than nothing
6. if he didnt utilise a script for this it showed - there is plenty of reasons why creators fixate on getting good at scripts and sticking to them.
7. if no script he likely will face the realization that creating content on ideas or concepts not well rehearsed or hashed out have a high risk of not being articulate or well presented.
i think the point is made.
@@MP-xg4lf I just shared my opinion. Please don’t ask me to censor myself either.
I don’t see how many of these points you try to make are relevant. My opinion of this is that Jaws going public on one of the biggest platforms for BAR content with this is not ideal. I believe this will work against his intention and cause more harm than good. You stating he is a small content creator is fine, but he is also one of the most public personalities in this community. He is also one of those most prominent to casuals and learning players.
If he can prove that toxicity correlates with skill level it is a completely other thing. I believe this is false information and that many will believe him as a public figure. This creates prejudice towards part of the population.
@@mvpete6004 then focus on the inaccuracies and bring receipts. id love to see where you think i asked you to delete your material...
0 os players... I don't understand. Maybe if your sub 80iq but why play this game at all then?
