But I saw this and have been doing it and I finally found the middle of the club face again!!! Thank you!

This video was more than refreshing! I went out and played a round so bad today, and literally shanked every iron shot and played terrible. I needed to see this, now I know what my issue is and will be taking this to the range tomorrow, thank you!
Excellent tip Todd! Like one of your other viewers, I have a tendency to hit this on the short pitch or chip into the green. Now, that I know what causes this, I will concentrate more on club head path. Always learn something from your videos! Keep up the good work.
Thank you. After too much shanking at the range today, I think you've helped me realize my problem as I practiced your moves in my living room. My take-away is this: on the backswing I was rotating my torso and that put the club very much behind me. Instead, I should be rotating my shoulders and that moves the club up and back keeping the face square. You're the one I turn to when I'm having problems and as usual, you fixed my problem. thx.
Loved this video - thanks for sharing. Another tip ended up fixing the shank for me though - thought I would share in case it helps someone else. I set up a couple of balls next to each other about half a club face apart and hit the nearer ball. I realised that for some reason my brain was leading/instructing my hands to hit the ball with the inside of the club face (hosel). all it took to fix was to consciously try to make contact with the sweet spot / outside half of the club face. That was it! hit 30 in a row with no shank after that. Was nothing to do with my backswing, balance, setup, etc. GL all.

Had a TERRIBLE practice session, shanking everything. Usually it's only the PW and 9i, but this particular day it was 6i-PW. Finished the bucket hitting my driver, 3w and hybrid b/c at least I didn't shank those. Came home so upset, and feeling like I forgot how to walk and talk. Went to the range and really dialed in my driver. Hitting them straight or a nice draw. Played gold the next day. Striping my driver. Shanked my irons all day... Sounds like the big inside out swing that fixed my fade, translated to my irons!
Thank you so much. I have been trying to stay more connected, and it has been giving me more power with my driver, but a negative side effect is that I was often shanking my irons. This makes sense. Is there a drill in which I can still feel more connected with my back arm but avoid pulling the club back?

Hi Todd, I'm a left handed golfer and am currently struggling shanking/pushing my ball to the left with my long irons on the tee and on the fairway. Where can I purchase one of the plane sliders? Thank you.
I just started the video, so I'm writing this in the 1st minute. I always shank my short clubs on full swings. So almost every full swing from 56° to my 9 iron I shank. Mid and long irons, 8i - 4i, I hit much better and almost never shank.
My shank came about from trying to shallow and get away from too steep pulling left and I was hitting down and actually vibration from hitting ground hurt hand, now using this video it feels moving back to more steep and less shallow so I assume I have to find happy place in the middle.
Shank can be also caused by having too much weight on your toes: with the swing's speed, you loose balance and you get nearer to the ball, hitting on the heel, and in worst case scenario, on the hosel.
Scratch handicapper here. Every now and again I go through the shanks for a few weeks. They literally ruin any confidence you have in playing when 9 out of every 10 shots is a shank. Takes me hitting 1000s of balls to get out of doing it. 😢 This tip works, but bad habits always come back
I tend to take it inside, I have to over exaggerate my outside takeaway to avoid a shank for my ugly swing. When trying to make my swing pretty it tends to mess me up mor than anything. I just need to stick to my swing.
Curing the shank is like solving a murder mystery. I’ve had shanks recur intermittently for decades. I’ve tried all the conventional fixes and only lately come across a clue that allowed me to replicate a shank at will. I noticed my shank divots were perfectly square, meaning my club face wasn’t open. When I tried to shank on purpose with an open face or inside takeaway, I only had higher shots from increased loft. Not shanks. Then I played around with my weight distribution. If I let my weight go into my toes, bingo! A shank. Check this out. Maybe it’s not your shank, but it could be.
HUGE TIP PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU NEVER WANT TO SHANK THE BALL AGAIN!!! WHEN YOU SET UP TO THE BALL KEEP YOUR BACK PRETTY STRAIGHT UP AND BEND YOUR KNEES BUT MAKE SURE THEY AINT LEANING TOWARDS YOUR TOES LIKE SHOULD FEEL LIKE THEY ARE LEANING BACK A BIT THEN STICK YOUR BUTT OUT AND IT KINDA SHOULD FEEL LIKE YOU NOW YOU HAVE A STURDY STANCE AND YOUR WEIGHT SHOULD FEEL PRETTY BALANCED AFTER DOING THIS AND LIKE YOU CAN FEEL THAT NOW YOUR WEIGHT ISN’T ON YOUR TOES AND TRUST ME DOING THIS YOU WILL NOT EVER SHANK IT AGAIN!!!
Thanks so much buddy, wish I could give you a high five! I have been shanking the ball with my irons lately. I tried the info in this video today and was still shanking.
