Genius from the Goddess. This is such an underrated album, and this track is a personal favourite.

Based on Molly Bloom's soliloquy from James Joyce's "Ulysses". The instrument is actually Irish - uilleann pipes.

Thanks again for another Kate Bush reaction. This song is from probably my personal favourite Kate Bush album her 1989 "The Sensual World" As others have explained, it is based on Molly Bloom's soliloquy from James Joyce's Ulysses. In it she recalls her first sexual experience with Leopold Bloom. There is a wonderful lyric in the song where she sings:
'His spark took life in my hand an mmmh yes
    I said mmh, yes
    But not yet, mmh yes
    Mmh, yes."
The book is set across an entire single day and ran into several controversies including an obscenity trial in the USA. Kate had thought that it was out of copyright and went ahead with a song only to find out that it was still copyright (a bit like being a TH-cam reactor!!!). So she had to recast the song. This turned out to be something of a beneficial turn of events. Because it led her to introduce into the song the lyric:
"Stepping out of the page into the sensual world.
    Stepping out"
This gives the song a broader, wider concept than just the discovery of sexual sensuality. it depicts a person going from 2D to 3D, leaving the book and actually experiencing the real world of senses.
Musically it was in part inspired by a Balkan, Macedonian piece 'Nevestinsko Oro' which helps to explain the way that she weaves together those different musical traditions.
Like the book, the video runs the course of a single day. In it Kate walks forwards (that is pretty much the entire video) - the world behind her moves as the day runs its course, but in this new sensual world all that she does is move forwards into it.

This whole album needs to be listened to in its entirety. It's a masterpiece, it's very experimental in a lot of the tracks

The instrument you can hear throughout is the Irish Uilleann pipes, which is obviously completely in-keeping with the theme, as the song is based on James Joyce's Ulysses and Molly Blooms soliloquy at the end of the book.

You've listened to Rocket's Tail which is from this album. The one where she sings with the Trio Bulgarka and then Dave Gilmour thunders in halfway through. I'd love for you to react to a cover Kata did to The Man I Love. Gorgeous video in B&W. It's lovely to see you react to Kate again! :)

Speaking of the Irish culture - the lyrics are based on the ending of James Joyce's Ulysses. Frigging brilliant. Kate Bush is like a force of nature.

The song includes Irish instrumentation (uilleann pipes, fiddle, whistle) under a breathy rendering of the orgasmic 'Yes' of the original text

Beautiful voice and I love the Renaissance/Medieval type atmosphere of the video.
