Man, I’ve enjoyed so many of your reactions, but damn, if you don’t immediately recognize how difficult these vocals are…Study up brothers, this is boss level singing. The octave flips she does? Insane.

Bjork has the voice of the gods. This is such an classic tune that shows off her vocal range and style. Musically it's a bit lightweight compared to the musical masterpieces that her records that came after this were but it's a great intro into her solo career. Bjork makes this angry metal/hard rock guy swoon. More bjork please. Nick was such a champ here. Making the case for the merits of her and the song but also allowing for his buds negative reaction to exist without being hurt or trying to shut them down.

Bjork is definitely not an ordinary artist. She is out of the box, breaks rules with a lot of sound complexity and brings highly creative elements to her work. She has a very powerful, incomparable and unique voice. Many artists such as Missy Elliott, David Bowie, David Burne (Talking Heads), Madonna and Queen B have shown their admiration for her work. I'm not saying that everyone should like her music (most of the time it's a process) due to such complexity it's natural that not everyone likes her at first listen. But if you are a curious person who allows yourself to dive more deep about the musicality of the world and go beyond what streamings offer, you can be able to increase the sensitivity of your ears to this sound diversity experience without so much resistance.

There is something to be said about such divisive artists like Bjork. Nobody dislikes acts such as the The Beatles, you either like them or are “meh.” (They are my personal favourite band.) Nobody dislikes Michael Jackson. But it seems special to me that you can have an artist where, as you say, you either love her music or hate her music. There is no “meh” with her. Not quite sure what it all means, but it’s a testament to her one-of-a-kind style. I personally adore her, have to say that. Generational talent and an oddball at that.

We've been huge Bjork fans since the 80s! Since the Sugarcubes, etc. Remember her icelandic accent creates like a low key yodel type of vocal transistion. Then her guttural H's. That's party of the beauty of Bjork (btw. We always have and so has she, said 'Bee yorke', so, idk.
Also considering this type of music and the year, this was teally artistically and creatively progressive. ✌ (Jodi/Child of the 60s) 🌸 Rabbit Hole!!!

Thanks, guys, I appreciate Ty and Ryan’s honesty; they were trying to connect with the song but without a hook or a catchy chorus that wasn’t happening. Not surprised bc that’s Bjork’s music ie they’re not sing-a-longs, if you will. Her tune “Joga” from Bjork’s 1997 album _Homogenic_ is more accessible (though it it will come off as “weird” to you all). Like another commenter, I recommend “Joga”. Oh and Nick, not even the hipsters in NULU would say “Byerk”. 😜

This popular in clubs, the sort of insidious tune that'd play early in the evening before the place would get crowded. And this was popular on MTV. Throughout the 90's, MTV was the arbiter of pop music for most American teenagers and young adults, and that's no exaggeration. Most Gen Xers know how "odd" she is (Kristen Wiig would impersonate her on SNL). She has a a few standouts, inlcuding this one. That dreamy feel, and the beats... the song is best loud. You should do her only big hit with "Sugarcubes" called "Cold Sweat." Before moving on into more of her solo material, just my two cents. Also, understand that she is making JAZZ vocal choices. Instead of - for instance - a simple pentatonic melody, she will hit 4ths and 9ths unexpectedly. She has perfect or near perfect pitch, and her onsets are dead on the note. She doesn't glide or slide up to or down to notes as is usual in rock singing. She'll just sing a tonic note, and then bang, straight to the 4th, with no reference. She's actually amazing.

Björk's biggest "hit", if you can call it that, in the US was her remake of "It's Oh So Quiet." Check that one out and of course, watch the video.

Based on what you guys like, I figured you wouldn't be into it. Something in this vain, but you MIGHT like - Kate Bush "rubber band girl" from 1993 also

She has an album of icelandic folk songs recorded when she was child. She was in the band Sugarcubes. Check out 'Hit' - Her next album after this was much more dance-electronic which is 'POST'

Tnis is a good introduction to Bjork and her Discography. So quickly the song is about humans but from the perspective of the animals. That's how they see us , cause that's how we all really are, terribly moody creatures. Her cadence is Directly influenced by the icelandic language. I will def recommend having lyrics onscreen because she pronounces words with her accent and elongates words. Going forward she evolves more into electronica/ Trap/ house/industrial/Glitch Pop that inspired a ton of today's musical artists. Great Job guys , her music def isn't for everyone but at least y'all gave it a chance 👊

Björk is ICONIC. Though dated now, this sound was groundbreaking upon release. A lot of artists have taken these sounds and have been profoundly influenced by Björk.

Suprised you guys have not checked out the contempory Icelandic band Kaleo. The vocals of the band's singer are 10 out of 10 and they have A level material.
