Rest in peace Barry, what a legend
So sad....no words, what a loss...
Barry is the most intelligent jazz pianist ever. And he's not even playing with two fully-working hands anymore. An amazing piano genius.
素晴らしい演奏をありがとうございました。
Mr. Barry Doyle Harris is one of the Greatest pianist players of all time. I have much respect for him. He is a GREAT teacher as well. I look at his videos every chance I get. He can play some combinations of chords that will make you say"WHAT?" He is 90 years old and going strong. Lord I thank you for blessing him with such a precious gift. Amen Amen and Amen.
RIP Johnny Mandel. What a beautiful song and Barry plays it so deeply.
Always seems the composers are understated, or not even mentioned in most cases; enter Johnny Mandel who wrote this along with 2 other very moving ballads: Emily and Shadow of Your Smile all composed during the 60's. Tony Bennett had a good ear recognizing all 3 which he recorded.
Good observation!
Yes, he(Mandel) also wrote "Close Enough for Love" which I play almost every day but it's a lesser known comp of his.
Always played this and now I understand why B.H. makes it easy to relate as a musician.🔥💯🔥💯🔥💯
Brought me to tears
Music to heal the soul and Heal the World
Barry Harris, una grande poesia del Jazz. Con le sue armonie ci porta a sognare ad occhi aperti. Grazie per la tua bellissima Musica!!!
Very humble style of playing
I wonder know what's going on deep inside a mind that can play such intense notes, so gentle and so clean... just a well gifted brain can spread so such emotion on us hear, isn't so?!?
yaaaaaas

Mr. Harris,
Your sound is so rich and full of beautiful notes :)
Thank you sir
Deep jazz magic.
Who could possibly dislike this?
Dr.Harris we ❤️ you,thanks🔥💯🔥💯🔥💯.
Beautiful song and best rendition I've ever heard. I'm working on that tune, myself, on piano.
Thanks for the post & love the black&white.
Song introduced in 1966 for a movie "An American Dream." A non-musical, I think, starring Stuart Whitman. Composers: Johnny Mandel (music) Paul Francis Webster (words)
+Kingsley Pedlar Hey, thanks for the movie reference! I'm going to learn this myself on piano (although I'm primarily a saxophonist). Familiar with Bill Evans' version?
Jeffrey Newton Bill Evans version is amazing.
Hypertalented and inspired musician playing a gorgeous theme by Johnny Mandel...
No one can imitate this person's touch.🎹

@@roya1e please let us know how it goes
Hey Jeffrey, yes familiar with Bill Evan's, but personally the great Barry Harris trumps all. Had Evans lived longer, he probably would have even gotten better doing a spectacular version of this one.
@Eric Oh, Barry would beg to differ. Still sour cuz he wasn't with the modal shit on time So he didn't get to play with Miles and get the big, well deserved credit for opening whole new channels of creativity in the jazz sound.. Not trumping, but Barry still sour. Make amends before you die, Barry,, fess up. Bill was not some fucking half stepper, playing "wrong" and incomplete .
Obrigada

Reminiscent of Chris Anderson?
I thought that woman who got up out of her seat and stood behind Barry in the beginning was going to sing....LOL
She was trying to transcribe Barry´s Hands
Can anyone recommend a piano teacher in Manhattan who can teach me the Barry Harris method of jazz playing? It has to be one-on-one teaching. Thank you.
AnEnormousBBFan Jeb Patton over at Queens college might do you right. He's really into Barry's work as well.

Everybody talks about Bill Evans. Evans was great, but, he wished he could have played like Barry.., even back in 1960.
How do you know that? Not saying your wrong just curious where you heard that from
@@Zacharysandilands Well, you can answer that question by "listening" to both players, and, Evans could never touch Barry as far as soloing. Also, Evans played with Miles, so, everything just gets amped up, however, Harris was overall a more complete jazz player due to his soloing prowess.
nah. evans explored a lot lf interesting harmonic ideas that barry never did. and he could solo too. so i think youre just making it up. i like both theyre playing, but i admire harris mostly as a passionate educator, someone dedicated to preserving an art form.
This is not real "black & white" video from when that was all that was possible. Someone deliberately removed the color as a bogus hipster show-off jive "aren't we hip" deal.
or maybe they just thought it more aesthetically pleasing
