  • Kite flying is a cultural symbol of Sankranthi; kite-flying marks celebrations in a special way in Hyderabad. Whether in the movies or television shows, the sight of people across ages flying kites and attempting to cut the manja of other kites is one way to depict Sankranthi. This year, Hyderabad scaled up that cultural practice.
The 7th Edition of the International Kites and Sweets Festival is ongoing, and massive kites are taking over the sunny blue skies. With cultural shows, great food, and great fervour, the festive season allows spectators to watch as a blue skyscape turns into an ever changing painting.
The skies of Hyderabad are set to come alive with a burst of colors and creativity as the International Kite Festival 2025 takes flight from January 13 to 15 at the Parade Grounds in Secunderabad. Organized by the Telangana Tourism Department, this event is a vibrant celebration of Sankranti, blending the joy of kite flying with cultural festivities. With participants from over 20 countries and an expected crowd of over 15 lakh visitors, the festival promises an unforgettable experience for all.
The festival will bring together 50 international kite flyers and 60 local participants, showcasing a mesmerizing array of kites. From intricate 3D designs to traditional Indian patterns, the sky will become a canvas of artistic brilliance. Exciting kite-flying competitions, thrilling kite battles, and cultural performances featuring traditional Indian dance and music add to the event's charm.
Three-day long International Kite and Sweet Festival at Secunderabad’s Parade Grounds open from 10.30 a.m. to 10.30 p.m.
As kites in the shape of an enormous Gorilla, a frog, an aeroplane and more soared in the sky over Parade Grounds in Secunderabad, children and their parents looked up in amusement on Monday (January 13, 2025).
As the day passed, more parents along with their children made their way into the grounds to watch kite flyers from various States of India, and other countries show their flare at the International Kite and Sweet Festival being held here from January 13 to 15, coinciding with Sankranti. It would be held from 10.30 a.m. to 10.30 p.m. on the three days, said officials from the Tourism Department. Entry is free of charge.
