Hi, everyone! I’m Fate Cunanan a medical doctor for the Philippines. I remember most of the interviews we had and one of the most frequently asked question during Med School, Clerkship and Internship was, “Anong pre-med mo? Anong batch? Saan ka nag pre-med?”
Ano nga ba ang best pre med for Medicine? For today’s episode, we will be talking about BS PSYCHOLOGY as Pre-Med Course in the Philippines. We will be joined by Dr. Mel Vinci Cruz and Dr. Angeli Deang to help us understand more of the course details. They also gave study tips, medical school advice and career opportunities regarding the course.

Doc Vicki Belo took BS Psychology as her pre-med in UP Diliman and then pursued medicine in UST! Now she has been a dermatologist for several years!

Thank you so much po mga doc! I was really scared and nervous whether I chose wrong to take up psychology as my pre-med...(my first choice was nursing but because I passed DOST scholarship, I had to choose other courses like psychology or biology) then my state college placed me in psychology instead of biology which is why I was worried if I was on the wrong path. But God really has a purpose for everything, thank you so much mga doc for this inspiring video. Truly if medicine is for us, then nothing can stand against us!

I think may advantage ren tayo sa pediatrics (for dev psych) and neurology (physio/neuro psych). In our curriculum, we do have biochem, inorganic and organic chem.
Yeah, I agree. :) May understanding na din tayo sa other diseases na under neuro ex. Alzheimers, Dementia. Also may topics din under abuse in Pediatrics. We have that skill din to know when it's a psychological case. :)
Yeah.. Those Neurocognitive and Neurodevelopmental... Hehehe! Cheer!🖐😅I remember na nag OJT ako sa SPED school (educ setting) mostly ang case nila is under neurodevelopmental spectrum.. Natry ko ren maassist ang isang doctor na ang residency/fellowship is neurodevelopmental pediatrics ang saya sa feeling hehehe.😁😄

i am now a psych freshie and minsan napapaisip ako if tama ba kasi hindi nga siya super alligned sa medicine pero i think it’s up to the person if yung effort niya mag pay off talaga sa med school if everrr, i guess we just gotta enjoy our college life and mag worry nalang us sa med school HAHAHAH, kung kaya ng ibaa why not tayo? hoping to become a neurosurgeon parinnn

Hi Doc! I am a graduate of BS Accountancy and Teacher Certificape Program. My dream is to become a Doctor, I heard that non Pre-med courses can go to Med School, Is it true po? And if kung totoo po, can u make a seperate video about non premed courses na nag enter sa med school. 😍

But if you really want to become a doctor, go ahead! Please! I have friends who finished medicine and their premed was Engineering, HRM, Tourism and other non pre-med courses. Kaya, kayang-kaya. However, if you decide to pursue, you must be dedicated enough to work twice as hard in studying! We have to compensate any advantage that those who graduated in a med-related course have. May God Bless you and your goals!

@@melcruz6892 Hi Doc! I'm planning to take an NMAT na and AUF is the nearest med school sa'min if ever na mapasa ko NMAT, Gusto ko itry na mag-apply sa DOH DTTB Program tutal partner school ang AUF. Is it true na isang doh scholar lang tinatanggap nila per year? 😥

Regarding the number of DOH Scholars at AUF, hope you could email them on that matter. Really no idea if ilan yung pwede for it. If psych po yung tinake ko as a pre-med, what would be the best specialization po? I'm only g11 pero super worried na ako sa itatake ko sa college😖
You can pursue whatever specialization you would like after! You'll be studying everything naman in Med School.
And don't be worried. Just pick the course that you feel you will really love!

Hello po Doc. may ask po ako if mag la-law kaba pwede kaba mag study ng psychology after mong mag graduate ng law? like makukuha pa rin ba? and if it's on the other way around na if nakatapos ako ng psychology and pwede parin ba na mag law ? like makukuha ka pa rin ba? and andami ko pong questions po talaga sorry po eto po if mag ps-psychology ka po magiging doctor po ba kayo? or only for premed. course ka lang po magging doctor like psychiatry po. nag dadalawang isip po talaga if law or pshychology po ang uunahin ko po.
I am quite aware din naman po about BA nd BS since I did some research din po and mas less ba po ang salary po if magging psychologist po kayo kesa sa psychiatry po?
Thank you regarding medicine, any premed course would do :) BS Psychology is a pre med course prior Medicine proper. Psychiatry is a residency program after passing the board exam for Medicine :) I could not speak for Law, sorry. Hope this helped you. Stay safe and God bless!! :)
Hi! :) Pwede ka mag-law after Psychology (BA / BS). Pwede ka din magtake ng Law before Medschool. We have a new enrollee who I heard, is an Atty. Good luck in choosing your career. 😊
Will I be able to transfer my AA in psychology to BS when going to my local university? does it even matter if I go for BA or BS as a premed?
Most Medical Schools do not require a particular degree in order to apply to their institutions. As long as it is a Bachelor's Degree, you'll be able to go to MedSchool. However, as far as I know, The BS Psych Degree offers more Science subjects as compared to a BA Degree, but again, it would not really matter much.
Agree to Doc Mel :) check on my vid about Road to MD how to long to become a doctor. Basta 4 yr course either BS/AB course can pursue medicine. Stay safe :)
