Hi, everyone! I’m Fate Cunanan a medical doctor for the Philippines. I remember most of the interviews we had and one of the most frequently asked question during Med School, Clerkship and Internship was, “Anong pre-med mo? Anong batch? Saan ka nag pre-med?”
Ano nga ba ang best pre med for Medicine? For today’s episode, we will be talking about BS MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY as Pre-Med Course in the Philippines. We will be joined by Dr. Jaemie Glenn Chua to help us understand more of the course details. She also gave study tips, medical school advice and career opportunities regarding the course.

I am really skeptical sa pagkuha ng med course pero buti nga nakita ko to sa mga suggested videos ko kasi nagrereasearch din ako about medtech. I really love how she explained it well talagang mas namotivate ko kasi halos ng mga nababasa ko about medtech is 80% negative yung inaadvice kaya I am so thankful na napanood ko to. I am the first in the family na kukuha ng med course kaya natatakot ako if ever na magmemed kasi yung pressure na mafifeel ko baka di ko kayanin. Tapos I am not so smart sa science bali average lang ako and natatakot ako na baka dahil di ako magaling sa science mahirapan ako especially yung mga scientific terms huhu. Sana makaya ko 🥹 Love this po, thank you so much Doc!

Yey! Medyo nawala kaba ko no'ng nalaman ko na worth it ang pag take ng med-tech. Kinakabah kasi talaga ako pero buo na talaga loob ko na magme-medtech ako. Incoming grade 11 palang ako pero sana talaga maging worth it lahat. Salamat po!

Hello, Doc Fate! Upcoming first year college ako and I'm planning to take MedTech. Since pandemic ngayon, dumoble yung kaba ko kasi nga online class lang tapos hindi ko talaga as in forte yung Science subject. Any tips po? :(((
Try mo BS Respiratory Therapy sila humahawak ng ventilators sa ICU at manood ka ng video sa Respiratory Therapy kc critical na yung supply.

Walang best pre- med school in the preperation in medicine..Depende po yan sa students kung talagang masipag at matiyaga at pangarap niya talagang maging doktor..importante hindi susuko para sa pangarap

Maganda kc solid foundation mo sa Patient Assessment( magsawa ka makinig ng breath sounds at mag asses ng GCS) at Critical Care at skillfull ka sa Arterial Blood Gas extraction, vbg at cbg at arterial line insertion and suturing at alam mo ka agad nangyayari sa patient pag nakita mo yung Blood Gas result baka sumigaw ka ng " prepare for intubation" at mani lang sayo yung computation ng Anion Gap pag duda ka sa ABG result at alam mo kung kelan i adjust ang Rate, Tidal Volume, Fio2 at PEEP sa ventilator lalo na pag decrease urine output at bumagsak yung O2 Sat at kung bumabagsak na yung Minute volume. Alam mo din kung need mo magtaas ng sedation pag nakita mo yung wave ng ventilator. At alam mo yung indicators ng obstructive or restrictive pag may hawak kang PFT result. Pwede mo rin kontrahin yung consultant mo kapag nag order ng extubation basta i compute mo sa harap nya yung CPIS ng pasyente . Alam mo rin na pwede ang hyperbaric oxygen therapy sa bed sore at mga pasyente sa burns unit.pero killer ang Neonatal & Pediatric Respiratory Care ingat ka dun mahirap mga exams dun at alam mong hindi ka dapat gumamit ng volume sa ventilator. Maganda rin kc pag nakita mo pasyente alam mo kung for intubation, Bipap , nitric oxide, heliox or High flow O2 therapy or for sleep study kelan gagamitin ang nebulizer at ultrasonic at alam mo hahanapin sa chest x ray at more important hindi ka takot sa intubated patients, humawak ng laryngoscope, bronchoscope, mag insert ng ICD, mag accompany ng pasyente naka transport vent, yung relation ng ventilator sa ICP, maghandle ng pasyenteng naka ECMO. Sa med schooling hindi ka dehado sa background mo sa anatomy, physiology, biochem, microbio, patho at pharma.

Doc, do you still think I'm eligible to take medtech despite of my condition? I got into an accident po kasi which cost me no visibility in my left eye since nadamage po yung optic nerve po. But nonetheless, i can see clearly and and my right eye is functioning well naman po. I'm just worried.

@@DocFateCunanan I suggest doc that in your pre-med series po, aside from the traditional pre-med po, create pre-med series din po from non-traditional pre-med courses po (bio chem, dentistry, pharmD, com sci, pol sci, sports, sci, community nutrition, business ad, public ad, community development, sociology, economics, FLCD, MBB, Applied Physics, Chemistry, entrepreneurship or kung sino lang po ung may kakilala po kayo na nasa pre-med course ko.)
