Cuenca is a cool, unique city. I lived there for a year and a half. Blackouts are a problem. Water availability also a challenge. It will be back, but right now, might not be the best option.
It’s good to hear about you move to Cuenca! I’m heading back to Ecuador and hope to visit Cuenca soon. Any suggestions on where to stay for 3-5 days? Hopefully I’ll get to meet you both while I’m there. Of course I’m an introvert too so…
We have limited experience with accommodations here in Cuenca, our friend LaRahna may have a vacancy during your trip, or you'd have to go with booking.com or Airbnb, and we may be able to help you choose from there.
Welcome!! The water temperature... that water gets hotter than the Devil's breath! Your skin will melt off lol! When you find the Chinese restaurant, please let me know!
Than you for sharing your experience. I am still not sold on Cuenca, even after my discovery trip. I will stay optimistic but I have lived near or in a city of 260k- 4 mil. Literally escaping to higher elevation on weekends to escape 115 degree heat and all the people. Dont get me wrong convivence of stores of great . But I am done with so many people.
We hear you! We lived in a large metro area for a long time, and even here in Cuenca we find ourselves staying away from overcrowded areas unless we have a need to be there. That's why we chose to live in a quiet suburb as opposed to the busy areas near centro.
Thanks for mentioning the Thriving in Cuenca Facebook group! And sorry I missed you at the newcomers lunch! I was there but I didn't know it was you. I would have said hello.
Welcome to Cuenca. We actually have not been getting much rain which we really need, glad you brought it with you. I read that we need like 30 plus days of rain to catch up. Cuenca is super walkable but the sun is very strong here like the coast. You might find coca leaves at the market on calle larga, 10 de Augusto.
so happy for you. I'm worried as all get out to find a place..... deal w altitude; areas of Cuenca... Jamie, if you read this,,,what area do you live in...recommend? be there in one month.
Try to find the valve where the water comes into your house and turn up the water pressure. They need high water pressure I guess Ours is under the kitchen sink. We also had the landlord replace the water heater. Of yours wont, get a new one yourself. Our water is soooo hot for as long as we want!
@@LivingLovingAbroad my drivers lic. they wont let me renew til Nov. 1. hoping two weeks back...... Im half tempted to just let it expire. This gives me four years to decide.
There is an Indian Restaurant across (west )from Parque De La Madre that JP and Amelia loved. I loved one that was on the north side of Calle Larga about 1/2 way on the street between Tarqui and pomepongo museo.
@@LivingLovingAbroad it's Paradise indian by the park. The Chinese I think you are talking about is right near there. But we like ZZ Jefes (Canton chifa zz Jefes me thinks) it is more affordable and more like American style Chinese.) across from Fybecca near McDonald's at Parque de la Madre as well.
Castor oil right after shower helps a lot (could mix with almond oil or another). And the rain (before current situation), I still always carry my umbrella because it would rain any moment. Glad you are here. Chinese restaurant:: Delicias downtown Cuenca. What is that website where you get the time of the blackouts? I haven't seen that one.
You guys are so inspirational. LaShon is so funny, she watching the $$$, I would be Steve and my husband would be LaShon. So glad you already have a community in Ecaudor. Congrats.
There's a Chinese restaurant over in El Vergel that seems really popular but I personally love Szechuan spicy Chinese food. And there is a very authentic 1 over in Gringolandia called Ta Lico. Also El Capitan for Seafood. And in Cento there is Sofy Glocal. Sofy was fantastic the first visit and meh the second.
I had an order with $56 custom fee and then i TOOK OUT an item and it went up to $1400 fee. Took it out. So there os something wrong with their system.

@@BPe-ie9jeis Ecuador okay in terms of finding jobs to support your stay?
In the Sierra it rains everyday the entire year. You have to get used to it. And the rainy season does not begin until the end of the year.
How much did you have to pay the movers?
The truck was $460, the movers in Cuenca were $40 (normally $35 but we arrived at night so it was extra)
@@LivingLovingAbroad oh thank you for answering
We had a delivery straight to the house, $5. I only order items “ship to Ecuador “, do you think that might affect the price?
We made sure to only choose those items, we'll just have to use trial and error lol

Try Ammonium Lactate 12%, works fine and very cost effective as a skin lotion.
