    I have just watched your 3rd grade kanji videos, parts 1through 5. I showed them to my Japanese husband, who liked them too. I was so happy to find your videos! I live in Japan, and have been studying kanji as best I can for four years now. This week I am sick in bed with a bad cold, and I was looking for a way to review the kanji’s I know without sitting up at a desk to write them, and without flipping through my kanji cards. Your videos were exactly what I hoped to find! Unlike some other videos I tried, you explain well, and slowly, and clearly, and without any distracting background music. Well done! I do hope you will have the time to finish the 3rd year ones, and then go on to the 4th year ones (which I am currently studying).

    Thank you for all your effort! However I miss when you would write your kanji’s and sentences with the red pen in your handwriting that is not traced. I learn a lot of “natural japanese handwriting” from you. :) I would grateful if you did more handwriting instead of tracing but again, thank you for all your effort

      Thank you for watching and commenting. Ah, I appreciate that you find value in my handwriting. One of the reasons why I almost stopped handwriting is that I thought it takes too much time for viewers to watch the video. The another and main reason is that I hurt severely the root joint of my right pointing finger on last August, and it hasn't healed yet, so now I cannot write letters (with handwriting) freely, therefore I am avoiding handwriting. Yet, your comment made me think I would try handwriting again, even if I could not do it well. Thank you again for encouraging. ありがとうございます。

    お疲れさまでした!- Will you eventually do highschool kanji? These are the best kanji videos online, I much prefer to learn with you rather than by myself from a book.
    Is there a place to donate?
    I would gladly donate a small amount of money each month to help fund the videos.

      ご視聴(しちょう watching)および(and)コメントを いただき、ありがとうございます。I would like to go to high school kanji if possible. There may be perhaps other good kanji lesson videos online, but I am very glad to hear your compliment and encouragement. I hurt my index finger on the right side last August, so I can not write like I did before, but I can make something like this video. I would like to make videos of practice problems, but I do not have much time. I greatly appreciate your offer. I do not have a place to donate now, but I will consider it. It will help me have time to make videos. Thank you so much again for your kind comment.

    Hello, a little bit off topic here but I wonder whether you are real teacher(I mean your occupation) or not, because your english is great so maybe you are an english teacher? Am I right? And how you learnt english in the first place? I'm sorry if it's not comfortable questions. Anyway thank you for your time, efforts and hard work!

    • @learningkanji3930

      Hello, I am not a real teacher at least now. I have a little experience of teaching English as the school subject as a tutor, but I have no experience of teaching it in the class. I learned English for the first time in the 1st grade of junior high school and studied it at school till 3rd grade of senior high for 6 years mainly reading and a little writing, not speaking. One teacher was an American, but he didn't speak English almost at all except when reading textbook. I just listening cassette tape(there was no CD at that time) and read textbook and learned grammar and vocabulary. Since entering university, I have neglected learning it till now. Actually I am not good at English especially for speaking and listening. Thank you for watching and commenting.

    先生、漢字を教えてくださり、感謝しております. 質問があります. "向こうに" と "あそこに" 同じですか. いつもありがとうございます.

    • @learningkanji3930
      @learningkanji3930  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sakuraさん、返答(へんとう reply)が遅れ、ごめんなさい。"向こうに" と"あそこに" は、似(に)ています。"向こうに" may be originally "in that[this] direction", while "あそこに" is "over there", but they have a similar meaning and can be used in the same situation(for "over there"). 同じような意味で、同じ状況で使えます。eg. あそこに山が見えます=向こうに山が見えます。I can see the mountain over there. / あそこに見える山が富士山です(あそこの山が富士山です)=向こうに見える山が富士山です(向こうの山が富士山です)= The mountain (seen) over there is Mount Fuji. / あそこに富士山が見えます。=向こうに富士山が見えます。"あそこに" is usually used for the object which can be seen and be pointed to, while "向こうに" is sometimes used for the object which cannot be seen because there is some obstacle between here and the object. eg. この山の向こうに湖がある。There is a lake beyond this mountain. / 壁(かべ wall)の向こうに人がいる。 There is a person beyond the wall.
      Another difference is that "あそこに" is used for the place which you can point to clearly, while "向こうに" can be used for the place which you just point to vaguely("about this(that) direction"). eg. "食堂はどこにありますか?"(Where is the restaurant?) "向こうにありますよ"(It's around there(in this direction(?)))
      今はあまり時間がないので、とりあえずの回答(かいとう)で、すみません。もし追加があったら、あとで補足します。ごめんなさい。

    Why is 根 a part of the compound 屋根?

    • @learningkanji3930
      @learningkanji3930  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      U~m, that's a difficult question. I also wondered why when I was made the text, but I put off finding it, as I think that someone would ask a question...then you asked, haha. There seems no definite opinion. Some says it was due to the fact that the lower part of the roof was in contact with the ground when it was an ancient pit style dwelling. Others say that "ね(ne)" of "やね(yane)" means a high ridge or the top part of a mountain, like in "ね(ne)" of "峰 みね mine (peak, summit, ridge)" or "尾根 おね one(ridge), " and that as "屋(や)" means "house", "ね(=ridge)" of the "屋(や)(=house)" has become "やね(yane)". While I was writing this, I came up with the idea that 根(root) doesn't extends towards just below, but also extends laterally, sometimes appearing on the ground and looking like mountain ranges or a ridge, and the ridge of the house is like mountain ridge, so it might be the origin of 屋根, or if the houses are connected to the side long, the roof resembles roots stretching sideways on the surface of the ground. Thank you for watching and also asking this interesting question.

    • @StrohmaniasFlyingCircus
      @StrohmaniasFlyingCircus 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your answer. Whenever I see 屋根 I see daikons on a Japanese style roof.

    • @learningkanji3930
      @learningkanji3930  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In winter, people in countryside dry 大根(daikon) as they hang it under the roof(屋根). The same 根 is used. Thank you for your comment.
