As a previous mechanic, this probably didn’t go to plan as the nail went in the shoulder of the tire, meaning this tire is now not repairable and you will need to replace it. Also , the stuff he’s using is a temporary repair, only enough to get you to a shop to then have a new tire put on. If it’s like in the middle of the tread it is repairable but anything that close to the shoulder of the tire is not , as it’s slanted and our repairs won’t stay.
This works. I fixed tires at a gas station when tire plugs came out. The shoulder area flexes and can still leak on cornering but the plug heats up and emulsifies itself into the tire and it flexes too. Carry a air compressor powered by lighter outlet to air back up. You don't need to ream it out so much, just enough to to force the plug in, bicycle tire glue works great. Use dark red colored plugs, not black, black ones are not thick enough.
As a mechanic, I have an issue with this video. If a customer sees this, they will believe that a shoulder puncture can be repaired. There should be some sort of overlay in the video stating that it is not a permanent repair.
That's why it's called an emergency repair. A tow truck isn't permanent either.
@@ralph5450 I used to drive a tow truck. I am only stating that people don't always read titles and descriptions. Where I live, people use their donut as a highway tire even though it says "temporary use only" right on it.
@@ralph5450 That’s why there’s spare tires in cars. That way you don’t ruin your tire doing this versus putting your spare tire on or doughnut And bring the tire tool repair shop to actually be repaired permanently with a patch.

Yeah I see the same kind of tire repair gets all over the Internet but all my years I've never seen a repair kit like this in the US with these rubber band looking Plugs we always have the round black ones and those have worked for years for years for me never a problem

I have 40+ years in tires and automotive field. YES this is possible in a pinch. But please replace tire as soon as possible because it is at a big risk of catastrophic failure .
TBH if people need to replace their tyre just for this, in countries like India they'd have to buy a new tyre every week

If you try to go to Sam's Club and get it plugged, they wouldn't be able to cause of where the hole is. It's too close to the outer edge and they're not allowed to plug it. I should know. I work at one in carts, but on occasion had to help do the safety check when there was only one person on schedule til the next one came in.

I had a plug in my tires for like 3 months and my tire was also a little dry rotted and I never had a problem but you are right to get it patched the right way, this is only temporary.

The plug didn’t go into the steel belt that would normally hold the plug in the tire so it will either leak once you start driving or completely blow out. It’s illegal to plug the side wall in most states. As a person with plenty of experience at tire shops I would not plug that hole. Replace that tire.

In an emergency years back. I once managed to put a mountain tbike puncture repair kit patch over the sidewall hole. It's actually right on the side. Who knows how these things happen. Anyway, the thing worked. i managed to drive slowly with hazardous on to nearest tyre shop. He couldn't believe it and took a photo.

1. You got very lucky, and the plug was great and you applied it perfectly. But you almost caused a knot in the sidewall. 2. Location was repairable, but best option is a patch from the inside. 3. This is a dope set up for plugs, just not really in need of it yet.

I’m sorry but you shouldn’t be repairing your tire if it is punctured on either the outside wall or inside wall of the tire. It is dangerous as it can leak slowly as “fixing” it like this is only temporary and once it has run its course it will slowly and if you’re not careful or you hit a bad pot hole your whole tire can pop just like that 🫰🏽. What you should do is fill it up with more air than needed for instance if you car says it needs 35 psi then fill it with 40 psi. Then drive down to your nearest tire shop and get a new tire. I only say this since I am a tire technician and I do things like this for a living.

I'm pretty sure packages say it's not for permanent repair anyways but never had a problem using and keeping them in, however that's in the sidewall of the tire, not safe to keep , might get lucky and have it last long enough to drive to the tire shop but would get a tire like that replaced asap

В этой части прокола нельзя производить ремонт жгутом. Так как в ней нет металокордовой нити , а только нейлоновая, при езде плечо шины будет (играть) в этом месте и со временем жгут либо выдавит либо он провалится в шину. Лучший ремонт подобного прокола, будет латка с резиновым штуцером в простанородье (грибок)

Warning ⚠️ you can not do a sidewall or shoulder repair on a tire, it puts you at a higher risk of a blow out, you can use this to get home then to the tire store and that's if you absolutely have to, you have to buy a new tire this won't work forever
