Excellent find Tom. These were used in old radios. Known as an accumulator. They powered the valve heaters to get the valves up to temperature. Voltage is 2V low tension. A larger battery known as a HT battery powered the amp stage voltages range from 100v to 120v for these. If you find small batteries stuck together in pitch and square shape its one of these. There were many makes of a accumulator including Exide and Oldham being the most common with regards to embossing.
Well done! Really! You did an amazing job! I love that you upcycle found objects and include that young assistant's help. You are really creative and I think you should keep at it! 👍
That's feckin sick Bro and I have found two old glass batteries on my tip but I have still got to find a way to reclaim them as they are way too heavy to carry. That Steam Punk Lamp is just Epic mate. ATB GL & HH LittleJohn_MD 🇬🇧
Man that is wicked!!! Extremely well done and love the build video. Hopefully there will be more little things like this that you’ll do for us to see when you do find things to rebuild. Good job 👍
I know you don't like sweaing nor does youtube but that is F@rking brilliant thanks for giving me an idea for mine, cheers tom... amazing🔌💡👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😜
There was a derelict mansion near where I live and in the Attic their was half a dozen of those glass battery's all in mint condition all powering the servants bell network I should of gone back and got them as its all been ripped out and refurbished nice light by the way
I'm surprised you upcycled the whole batter cause you seemed pretty stoked to find a complete one and said you collected them. Admittedly I was surprised , with the age of your kids, that you had said you would keep it. I would have been terrified of them getting into the battery acid. Just out of curiosity what did you do with the acid and copper plates? Looks like a nice lamp.
Acid and copper plates and the old decorating tray were scrapped at work we have proper containers for toxic stuff like this. This was the first complete battery i have ever found usually just the glass box remain but i was going to strip it down anyway for safety
Thanks for the answer. We also have battery disposal at work ( I work at a university so its a bit odd). Glad they got ditched appropriately after 70 years :) Though I was thinking that the copper is worth some money and could be used for embossing if not too corroded.
Funny they quit using glass batteries for stuff on account of them turning themselves into acid bombs.. theyd build up hydrogen from the reaction of the lead and sulphuric acid and the relief valves were made of metal that would corrode and sometimes seal itself off.. so the gas would build up and when the thing is moved at all the glass would explode sending shards of sulphuric coated glass in all directions plus the lead in both the glass and deposited on the glass from the plates id say couldnt be too healthy either.. i think the glass is also radioactive on some from the process they made the glass also.. so just all around not the best batteries…

Love the steam punk lamps though. You have a real eye for that sort of industrial design
@@samlomb2093 the copper plates were badly corroded and i didn't fancy messing with them and making some real nasty dust
probably a good choice. As the Russians say health is everything
‘Acid Level’ 😂
The battery looks so worried👻
