Thats a long answer lol It depends what the rust is... if its blistered or soft, the cut out and weld in new metal. If its just surface rust then there are a few options: - sand blast - rust convertor - encapsulate For the most part if its small i encapsulate, usually with a product called rust bullet. So wire wheel and clean, scuff with 80 grit, rust bullet. Then the next step is an inert base to paint over, i usually use Nason Epoxy, made by Axalta. Then if it needs smoothing high build primer over top. Then base clear on top. The most important part is reading the Technical Data sheets and watching dry times. The goal is resealing the metal from air and moisture, then the rust wont come back.
